Well, they are now including Nevada landmarks too...Interesting… I was thinking that because they were rebranding macOS 16 to 26, they would eliminate the California naming scheme
it's magically courageous!Today, Apple is proud to announce an ALL NEW Mac operating system, reflecting the beauty, power, and privacy only Apple can offer: MacOS Tahoe.
Mojave is 10.15. Mavericks is 10.9. Monterey is 12 and ML is 10.8. It isn’t hard to rememybothIf Apple is moving to numbering the OS with the year, then why bother with the name? Close your eyes, and tell me the numbers of Mojave, Monterey, Mavericks and Mountain Lion.
The name obscures the numbering. MacOS 26. That is all you need to know.
Well done. Have a biscuit. 😀Mojave is 10.15. Mavericks is 10.9. Monterey is 12 and ML is 10.8. It isn’t hard to rememyboth
I think those numbers are wrong. Yukon should be next, a la Snow Leopard, just like Tahoe, but better.MacOS 27: macOS Odyssey
MacOS 28: macOS Telluride
MacOS 29: macOS Yukon
MacOS 30: macOS Highlander
MacOS 31: macOS Explorer
You've heard it here first folks.
I wish they'd name them something that are easier to remember by and to pronounce for non-native speakers.Interesting… I was thinking that because they were rebranding macOS 16 to 26, they would eliminate the California naming scheme
It’s at the border of California and Nevada, so still CaliforniaWell, they are now including Nevada landmarks too...
Er… which one? The food, the singer, or the president?I was really hoping for macOS Taco 😢
More American than much of the rest of the country.Nah... Just skip California. That state really isn't much American any more.
Just no. Cars and trucks do NOT get new names every year, different cars and trucks have names (like "macOS", or Mustang" or "RAM" or "Corolla" or "Prius") that they keep for (usually) their entire product life, and you just add a year number. In that context, "macOS 26" aligns Apple's naming system much more with with car manufacturers do.That's why cars and trucks have different NAMES, not just numbers.
Fun fact, IIRC, Vasquez Rocks has shown up in so many TV shows because it's just inside some mileage limit from the studios (don't recall the exact number - 50 miles, maybe?) so that it falls under a different set of contract rules (for unions and guilds and such) - over the limit it's a remote shoot and you have to provide a bunch of extra stuff. Under the limit and it's "just a drive". Vasquez Rocks is scenic, and just within the limit.I was hoping for Vasquez Rocks. Vasquez Rocks County Park was the mountainous desert background for outdoor scenes in Star Trek, Planet of the Apes, MacGyver, Bonanza, The Lone Ranger and Twilight Zone. Remember Kirk’s duel with the Gorn? I was there. The Pacific Crest trail crosses through the Vasquez Parks Natural Area Park.
Are you kidding? Nevada has blackjack and hookers!I think it’s kind of unfair that California gets to claim Lake Tahoe. Like, it's 2/3 in CA, I get that, but CA has so much and Nevada is otherwise a wasteland. Let them have Lake Tahoe.
BSD had the best release notes ever, for their releases.BSD had a Tahoe release. Since the core of macOS is BSD (though it's added a lot since) it's still cool to see respect for the roots https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/4-3-bsd-tahoe-tape.43346/
Grow up fanboiHaters gonna hate. Perhaps you'd like Windows/Android better?
