macOS Clownshoe released

Made this account just to say: Tahoe is macOS Clownshoe. They killed Launchpad, replaced it with a junk drawer of fixed categories, and slapped Fisher-Price radii on every corner. Window controls float inside panels like a half-baked Linux theme. This isn’t evolution. It’s vandalism.

Is there a reliable guide on how to DOWNGRADE back to Sequoia? I literally cannot see whatever the frak they replaced Launchpad with, as in I DO NOT HAVE THE EYESIGHT FOR THIS! So I need to downgrade just to use my freaking laptop! The replacement is useless in every possible way and several I didn't think possible.
I'm looking for this as well, but I saw on Reddit that Tahoe also updates your machine's firmware, so downgrading might not be an option.

I can't believe that Apple released something as primitive and AWFUL as "Apps" and took away everyone's Launchpad.

Can't customize it or resize it or rearrange icons or make folder of make categories.

I used to have 3-click (at MOST) access to EVERYthing (Launchpad -> Folder -> App).

I *hate* this 'new' piece of the UI and making sure my wife's MacBook does NOT update until Apple fixed this HORRIBLE decision.

For the record - the move to "Apps" should have been OPTIONAL. For the people who like it, they should have access to it.

It feels like Apple is having a windows Vista moment.

On my m3 14" it looks and feels horrendous. Playmobil-level bad.

Even Finder feels broken with the left pane covering up the left of browser pane (so I need to actually scroll right to get the beginning of files & folder names visible 😅 dafuk Apple.

I'm sorry to say but win10 & even win11 look miles better.

My intuition is UI design was scaled to look good in figma mockup screenshots copy-pasted in ppt slides for decision makers meetings. And they had to scale up UI controls so guys at the back of the room could see them clearly.

I saw some screenshots of this phlegm OS, and it just looks like someone threw up a pack of half digested jellybeans on their screen - peak progress!

I can deal with "Liquid Glass" (though I prefer 'old school'). I'm trying to use "Apps" on my laptop (since the Terminal/Launchpad hack was broken with the final Tahoe release and now "Apps" is non functional - hopefully fixed with another Terminal command line when I get home from work) and I have so many apps that I'd a LONG scroll to find an app who's name I don't recall (but remember the icon) that starts with a "Y".

Why not resizable?
Why not customizable?
Why no ability to move icons?
Why no ability to make folders?

WHO APPROVED THIS CRAP?

i'm sticking to 15.7 for now (I mean until the revert the utter abomination this new UI is)
Yeah, they mad a BIG DEAL of Liquid Glass - pushed it as the "most important" feature when, in reality, it's a small upgrade for some, unnoticeable by others and really PISSING OFF a bunch more.

but look! a dancing emoji in your barely visible folder icon! isn't your productivity going through the roof already?

if only image thumbnails - as opposed to file names - in spotlight could dance too, I'd brand myself with Apple logo pronto.

Who committed this crime against aesthetics? Will Mr. Tim be forced into retirement because of this?
Sort of off-topic in this thread, but I truly believe Tim Cook will bow out after the 20th anniversary of the iPhone. It would seem like the appropriate milestone, if he was going to be retiring in the next few years

Is it me or is it impossible to get a window all the way to the top of the screen? I have a single line of the background showing through between the top of the window and the bottom of the menu bar and in dark mode it stands out as a distraction. It tries to snap the window to the left edge of the screen leaving a gap as well, but at least I can push further and override that.

Pull it down then push it back up and it will go to the top.

Actually it's more about the roundedness. And also jailed icons... I hated unified icons as shape helps me find icons faster and now they went after overspills as well... meh.

Timemachine to external disk and you can easily revert back if Tahoe is not for you.

Yeah, I think I'm going to have to learn that. I thought I was smart in having a network share be my Time Machine destination since I have mountains of space there. Shows you what I know.

Wow now you done it - macOS looks like some free opensource theme got applied. Not only are round corners now no longer perfectly round but bubbly - if you have a round button in a round window corner of course the radii dont match - and apparently thats intentional. How amazingly fu**ing stupid are those guys??? Did the good guys witch to a better job? Maybe instead of being frekin diverse try being good for a change.
As an added bonus u managed to find a font that only looks good an retina displays ... i truly hope u dont sell a single display or notebook more because of this ****.

I hope large investors get the whole stack of guys who approved this nonsense fired!!

I toggled reduce transparency (to get rid of that weird sort of double vision shadow) and clicked Display contrast one position to the right. Much better!
wouldn't touch display contrast, it'll **** up any media rendition too (it literally increases the whole screen's contrast, not just UI).

The corner radii are so weird. This is four windows, each maximised, aligned against each other across two external displays. Nothing aligns or is consistent.

I found that I cannot change any letters on a tab nor close it by clicking on the "x". I have to use the keyboard command to close the tab. The tab cannot be edited.

Just realised I'm not getting any notifications from Apple Mail. Been working on my Mac all day, I have the dock hidden, I mouse over it and suddenly see I have 30 emails which have all come in since this morning. Resetting/toggling notifications makes no difference (but the icon badge disappears, so notifications ARE working?).
