anyways I was thinking....ouch!
since i am VERY new with these Macs,
well, my first one I owned personally was "like yesterday"
in 1998 a iMac before the cats were released,
umm, can I make a usb thumb drive of Tahoe OS off my Mac mini M1
then install that on my MacBook Air M1?
which has the Sunday Sequ....(I don feel like typing that anymore)
which I did not upgrade today.

thanks in advance!

Upgraded to 15.7 and while I have Tahoe available I'd love to hear from folks that have installed it
Tahoe successfully installed via OTA update on my iMac M3. Other than the icons looking slightly different I don't even notice a difference so far. Everything runs smoothly and works just like it did before, albeit I haven't played around with learning any of the new features yet.

I'm not underwhelmed, I'm not overwhelmed. I'm not whelmed at all.

I'm not a fan of the speaker/brightness setting bar moved to top right corner when changing it.
I know what you mean, but I can imagine that I'll get used to it.

I remember on iOS when they changed the big centred volume control to the one that now appears at the side & now it's hard to imagine iOS working otherwise.

It's weird too that Safari hasn't got a compact mode when it does on iOS safari and that's the default.

But as I said above, I think that Apple has erred on the side of caution with changes.

I expect next time round, we'll get to see more things that worked on iOS on macOS - and a few things that didn't work on iOS dialled back.

Oh my goodness what an awful mess on my screen now. This UI is terrible, I don't know where to start but someone at Apple had a terrible idea and some form of group polarisation took over. The border radius on the windows makes it look like it's a Fisher Price laptop.

Fortunately only have this monstrosity on my own Laptop, my work machine will be sticking with the previous OS and I think this is hastening my move to Linux.

Apple really needs to bring back some proper designers.

Just did my iPhone 16 as well....wtaf happened with this transparency stuff. I liked the bold white text on my lock screen that showed the time, now its clear and blends in with my wallpaper. FFsake, change for change sake.

Mac Studio M3 ultra is refusing to allow the install. Downloads, installs, reboots to normal Lock Screen...

ALL DAY!

I have run the system settings installer, I have run the terminal install.... NOTHING.

this is really obnoxious.

You can change that back to how it was. Go to customise the wallpaper and change the font from glass to solid.

It did not appear on my M1 Studio. They musta skipped too many interim versions

I got it via Terminal using:

softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 26.0

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I really like the UI changes in macOS 26 Tahoe. And the all glass look that everyone hates is not on by default anyway. I find the subtle changes to the menu bar, dock, menus, toggles, Finder, etc. look visually appealing. But hey, all of this is subjective anyway.

So far, everything is quite stable and snappy.

My problem is that everything appears - takes 30-60 min to download. Once downloaded the system restarts and installs. after the install it refreshes the screen to my normal log in / Lock Screen. like nothing happened.

I am running the install again from terminal.

Update - NO JOY.

"your computer restarted because of a problem"

This is MOST obnoxious.

Not that I normally update right away anyway since my Mac is my livelihood, but I just do not care for liquid glass and I don't want it on my Mac where it looks even worse to me. We'll see if I can hold off until next year where they hopefully rein it in.
That would be a reason not to update right away. I only do major updates right away on devices that I don't use frequently, as it takes a bit for bugs to get sorted out.

Hm, I didn't realize the Launchpad is gone in Tahoe. Not great, since the Spotlight replacement doesn't seem to allow app folders. Or am I missing something?

Reason why I am going to install 15.7 update instead and hope that somehow this is fixed.

I have 360 apps on my Mac (including all system tools). Most used are in dock, ess used are in Launchpad and even less used are in folders in Launchpad - and all of them are perfectly sorted and take only one page!

I can find any app/tool I need in no time even if from the ones I rarely use or just keep track on their development.

From all things I’ve seen so far - current Tahoe implementation of app management is a joke for my use case.

I would not recommend installing at the moment. There is zero reason why a flagship Mac computer m3 ultra studio can't update. There is next to nothing on this machine aside from video editing tools and stacks of video.
