Probably will drive me off site permanently

MacRumours is by far my favorite web site. Check in 4-6 times a day. This redesign is different but is no longer useful for a quick look at what is happening. 35+ years with the PC world. I semi retired and got a 27" iMac i7, Mac Air and iPhone4, kept one PC at distant site.

1- The new site does not fit on my screen. The right one inch requires a scroll
2- The main story can not be deduced by a quick look. Only the headline and part of a picture are on screen. I have to scroll to see what it is about.
3- It is MUCH slower. Turning pages is painful
4- The iPhone gossip section is not on the first page. Clicking is needed to find it. I enjoyed the quips.

Don't get me wrong, this is a very nice site now of a great service, but I can no longer simply hit my special bookmark and see if there is something of interest to me. Because this is about RUMOURS I personally am likely to stop passing by.

I can guess that the demographics of this site is not those of us born in the 1930's, but I have tried to stay at the cutting edge of electronics. I just cannot get myself to enjoy form over substance.

This is personal only and the loser in this is me.

Another who really misses the positive|negative...

I've read all these comments and while I hear the people who feel the voting just was fodder for fan boys, I must agree with the others who are saying it was a VERY useful tool for looking at articles quickly and determining the interest or controversy.

In fact, the reason I don't/didn't use the mobile version of this site on my iOS devices was because of no pos/neg.

PLEASE bring it back. If you don't like it, ignore it.

Other than that, I'm fine with the new look. I don't love change, but I'm ok with this.

I've looked at the home page a few times and each time, I find the right column distracting because it's too wide.

I may be using the mobile version in my full desktop browser. That may seem backwards, but I can focus on the "news" stories since there's nothing else. The forums still loads the full version when clicking it from the mobile home page.

You need to use the RSS feed if you check that much. Let RSS do it for you. Work smarter, not harder ;)

Also, the article mentions that if you don't like the fixed width you can change it back to variable. So your No. 1 is moot. As far as your No. 3 I find the site substantially faster.

Too Narrow, both Fixed and Fluid

Even with the hidden link to Fluid down at the bottom, the page is way too narrow. Forums, and news are only 1250 pixels wide, max.

If I wanted them at that width, I would set my browser to that width.

That is my only issue with the new design.

Funny you say that because as soon as I read the article the next thing I looked for was the pos/neg rating. I can see why they removed it as it almost never added any value and usually wasn't an accurate metric, but it still gave me a clue about what kind of posts there were.

I'm sure that would be easy enough to change. Think of all the large monitor owners Arn!

Too ... big

I like the general idea, but I think everything, particularly at the top of the page, takes up way too much space. There's too much space above the top of the logo, and front-page headlines have some extra padding.

Maybe I'll get used to it, but I feel like everybody is trying to follow Twitter and make everything huge because you must be blind. I preferred the old sizes.

It's also apparently wider, as like a poster above, I need to scroll right to see the right side of the page. Not a big deal, but I really don't like making my browser the entire width of the window. The fluid layout option does help a little.

I'm sure this has mentioned before, but I miss the thumbs up and thumbs down buttons. Gave me a little chuckle when there's some report about at&t doing something stupid and the thousands of thumbs down it gets. Aside from that, not bad. Whole lot better redesign than that gawker hashbang crap. Even the redesigned redesign is still crappy.
