Donated twice this month - Proud to do so

Had the chance to donate Platelets on 5/11 and then was called to ask to donate granulocytes for a matched patient today.

I happened to scan the Web for a Lion question and found this drive was going on. Proud to offer up my support for the effort.

Took the pic while listening to an audiobook on the iPod. The collection procedure takes 2 hours with a prior visit the day before for prep work. I encourage people under <30 to start donating and keep it up. Takes time to give but I do so because I believe blood is priceless.

My two cents.

Third time this year pics below :) I also included a picture of the needle site for those wondering how big the hole was for the squeamish look away.

3 more units of Platelets at the Red Cross.

Plus here's a little shout out to Mac rumors I put on my arm!

Today I donated double red cells for my third time and have donated 1 gallon total so I got a 1 gallon pin :D

Donated yesterday at work!

:) I support the MacRumors Blood Drive! :)

Added your donations to the honour roll. Thank you for posting in the thread!

hey, donated blood today in tel aviv (did not even know that this is running, just joined MacRumors now) sadly, in israel you don't get any verification, do you need to take my word for it :)

Donated whole blood May 14th

So...forgot to take a picture or even post after my donation 10 days ago. But you can still (barely) see the needle mark on my arm.

On May 14th I donated 1 unit (450 ml) of whole blood at the local Red Cross Blood Service in Kokkola, Finland. It was my 14th donation, and the bag was filled in 4 minutes 31 seconds. It seems I have quite an effective pump and piping. :p

I also registered as a bone marrow donor, and have been an organ donor since 2008.

Keep up the good work, everyone! :)

G4-power,

You're a blood donor, you joined the bone marrow registry, you signed up as an organ donor, and you have "I support the MacRumors Blood Drive!" in your forum signature. Please tell your parents to put a bumper sticker on their car that says "My child was MacRumors member of the month!" :)

Seriously, it's great to hear about your generosity and the generosity of other forum users toward people you don't even know.

Another platelet donation today

Donated only a single unit of platelets (30 ml) today. The attached photo shows the display on the Gambro.BCT Trima Accel "blood sucker." Although it shows plasma, it's used only for the rinse back, after the centrifuge (shown in the blurriest photo) completes separating the platelets from the red blood cells. My month of May total is 90 ml of platelets over two donations (would have been four units, or 120 ml, but I didn't have the time to do one more). Glad so many were able to contribute this month.:D

Why, thank you, Doctor Q, for your kind words.

I've thought about this as "a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do". Helping out others, even though they remain anonymous, gives me pleasure. That's what I think pretty much every blood donor can feel at the end of the day: you've helped someone. I only just learnt that young males are good bone marrow donors, because there is enough marrow for the operation to succeed. So I thought, I am a young male, why not me then. :)

On another note, there's a lot we all can do for blood donating besides donating ourselves in marketing this to our friends and family. It can be quite hard to get some people to try donating blood, but it's definitely worth it, if you can talk someone into it and to get them to perhaps overcome their fear of needles for example.

Whole blood, May 18

I gave one unit last week and forgot to mention it here, so now I am.

I signed up to do bone marrow back in 88 or so when a friend was dying from leukemia (unfortunately she didn't survive even with a marrow transplant). My bone marrow records have followed me across the US/Canada border a couple of times now. If you have signed up for donation and move (locally, nationally, or internationally), contact the appropriate people to let them know where you are so if they find a match they can track you down! Now you can probably update your records online in most places.

The honour roll is up to date with all the latest donations.

The blood drive will finish on Thursday (31st of May). If you are considering donating, please do so before then!

Why not take a family member with you?

I gave a pint of blood on the 24th here in the UK

(I'll update when I know what my blood type actually is!)

I'm booked in for my first blood donation on the 31st! Assuming I am okay to donate, I will just squeeze into the blood drive! I'll let you all know on Thursday!
