Was going well until I (as others) saw the word subscription. IFTTT wanting $9.99 for their service has brought me to an utterly hard stop now on all further subs.

Thanks to the poster above I will look into the option of a one time purchase, that I will at least consider.

Yeah.... 1Password... if now I have to think of one unethical software company this one comes first. So first you pay for the product, you use the product, out of the blue they push an upgrade and now every-time I touch 1P I have to see annoying banner "Purchase our subscription!" - right into your face many times a day. Really?! On a fully paid product?!
Now transitioning to Bitwarden.

I've used a number of password managers (keepass, LastPass, OnePassword) and my favorite one by far is bitwarden. Bitwarden is much cheaper, too. and open source.

I'd do this without hesitation if there was a way to transfer your iCloud Keychain passwords to 1Password. But there isn't a simple way (at least I can't find)
You could do a gradual transfer. Keep iCloud and then on your mac every time you enter a password from iCloud, you add it to OnePassword.

That’s precisely where I’m at. No idea why anyone using the Apple ecosystem would want this service...
That's a fair point. I find that my password manager (bitwarden) offers some extra features that apple doesn't (like password reporting, breach reporting, etc.), plus there's added trust and transparency. While I do trust Apple, Bitwarden is open source and has passed security tests.

Apple is providing a great solution with keychain, since they're trying to make strong passwords commonplace with tools built-into iOS. I just find third party solutions tend to handle password management better.

1Password is subware. I bought 1Password when it was a one-time purchase; now that they've gotten greedy and are forcing subscriptions, I'll probably be switching to iCloud's password manager. I would never consider 1Password if I were looking for a password manager today.

(Note that you can, apparently, still request a one-time-purchase license.)

I don't understand how this adds any value for an Apple user? All of this functionality comes with the ecosystem.
Incorrect, unless you know of a way to create a shared password vault with someone who has a separate Apple ID from you.

It's good, I used it for 5-6 years, but for the past 10 months have been running my own Bitwarden server. I think I prefer Bitwarden now but could never go back to not using a multi-platform password manager. Keychain doesn't even come close to either.

One thing that sucks with 1P, is the subscription fees. We're just being overloaded with recurring fees for software that used to be cheap.

for Canadian pricing a single user is $45/year. This program used to cost in the neighbourhood of $50-60 before if I recall correctly.

And you owned it. Now you stop paying, it stops working. You've paid for a glorified rental and got bubcus to show for it.

1P lets you purchase the software as a standalone license. They don't make it clear that you can - but you can. I have and will continue to do so as I am philosophically opposed to SaaS and cloud password storage. If they ever remove one-time purchase licenses I'll just go to a self hosted Bitwarden option.

I am a big, big fan of 1Password's product. Their customer service is earnest but they are not as up front as they could be about still buying a stand-alone license, which is how I support their business.

25% off seems like a reasonable subscription price for 5 users, coming out to about $9/yr/user or $36/user if you use it for 4 years, which is about the amount of time I used 1Password 6 before upgrading to 1Password 7 (current version).

Also it is so ironic that 1P blew up in popularity due to their marketing about being a non-centralized cloud PW manager following the LastPass breaches. Lul.

I love 1Password, but not jumping on the subscription train. Will keep using my v7 standalone license as long as I can.

Apple has purchased 1Password for all 123,000 of its employees... I would think if their solution had feature parity and was so amazing, Apple themselves wouldn't have paid for it for their entire staff...

comes with the ecosystem, but obviously not the best solution — much less a corporate solution.

Exactly my point, half of the comments here are "why would anyone need this," but Apple themselves determined it was worthwhile to give to their staff. Maybe people need to evaluate the product more instead of just saying "this is dumb, iCloud keychain does all of this!"

The MFA support alone is worth $30 a year IMO.

Cross platform (extremely important to me), shared vaults with people (great for a family). I’m not sure how Apples system is now, but 1Password organizes passwords nicely. I have work passwords in my main fault, but those work passwords are also in a guest vault on my work computer without having my personal passwords there.
I can save custom network settings, 2FA codes and the back up code, Secured notes, a secured vault, and so much more. It’s night and day between the 2.
I got burned twice by Apples keychain, I would never use it again.

1Password is fantastic. I will also never pay for it - again. I bought it once and used it for many years, then they switched to a VERY expensive monthly / annual fee and... screw it. I'm not paying $40 or $50 a year for a password manager. There are too many apps demanding monthly 'micro' payments now and I'm weaning myself off of them.

Sadly 1Password sees fit to open up a nag-box each time I open my 'paid for' app. It bounces on the dock unless I remember to close it. Very unfair.. Don't nag people that have purchased your product and don't wish to 'subscribe'.

Ulysses did the same thing, and when I wrote to complain they replied that it's the only way they can stay in business. Screw it, they can all shut down for all I care. I hate the subscription model because they end up charging you far more than you would ever sanely pay for a product.

Having used 1password for nearly 10 years. Lets look at the costs if I subscribe for another 10 years: at $60 a year, would I be willing to 'rent' a password manager for $600 for the next decade.. Hell no.

I find it funny how people get mad about the subscription yet the still sell the stand alone license still. Also, your pricing is off, it’s $35.88 a year for a single person. This sale is $44.88 a year for a family of 5, so that works out to $8.97 a year per family member.

Hmm, mine is due for renewal in October and it would have been nice if they extended the same deal to existing customers. I've been using 1Password for over 10 years now, which might have merited a discount.
I found out recently that they discount their top end gift cards. Right now you get $125 for $99. Buy that and apply to your account. That’s probably the best bet for getting a discount on renewal.
