I'm just getting bored with this same old design. Something refreshing always lifts my spirits. Did I say that everything should be hard to read and navigate? No, I just ask for a cleaner, more modern design. It can still be very simple but, elegant (just like Apple's products). This site reminds me of Windows 98 or Mac OS 8.1

Well, in all fairness you did reference a site in your initial post which is a good example of what MacRumors shouldn't look/behave like, at least according to a lot of the feedback in this thread including arn himself. ;)

But yes, if it could be done in such a way (i.e. not like MacNN) that would still preserve the simplicity, readability and functionality of MacRumors, then a refresh definitely wouldn't be a bad thing. Change is good, but change for the sake of change isn't - in other words, if it ain't broke... ;)

That would be a good April Fool's Day prank for the MacRumors staff to pull though - just invert the colors of everything on the site. ;) :D

Or perhaps they'll just stick with the usual Page 3 rumors... ;)

Black lettering on white background is the optimal reading color combo :) And, it would be neat to see MR invert the colors on April first :)

Content is king!
Give me usability over groovy any day.
Macrumors is about the content and the people.

Well, they may not do that per se, but there are always some nice surprises on MacRumors come April first as we all know... ;)

Well said, I agree.

I personally like the design of this site nice and simple and all I care about is content anyway I mean come'on are you really here to look at the colors of the site?

I'll add to the majority and say I don't like pretty colored forums. If arn decides to so something, I hope it's subtle like the last time he changes the site.

I'm in charge of my companies web site (I don't design but have responsibility of what we do) and it generates over $20 million in sales. I have resisted fancy crap and always focused on content and usability. Might be why sales keep growing as does my income. :D

I love the look/feel of MR but do agree it could use a facelift. The MacNN looks nice at first, but I much prefer the MR look over time.

if i get bored i might start working on an alternate css stylesheet with some nicer graphics, but not layout changes. a good forum to look at as an example is the mootools forum.

Guys, guys, guys... I'm all for subtle and simple... I don't want MacRumors to become distracting and hard to use, I just thought maybe some modern style could be added without making it hard to read and such.

I'd be all for this, just as long as it was done properly. In the meantime, I'm also fine with the current style.

Problem is that just fixing up a new theme to lift people's spirits eats up resources, could potentially break things and you could do browser testing until all the cows have iPhones, but some glitch will always arise to make the site difficult to use for someone.

I have nothing against pretty forums. I'm actually a web developer and I always try to make forums I work on look better and simpler than the stock skin that it came in, but with that experience in mind, I'm a firm believer in not fixing things that ain't broke.

Oh, I'm sure there more people who will prefer this forum or another forum based on how it looks, but the numbers are going to tiny in comparsion to the people who are here because of the content.

Yeah... I'm still considering a redesign. part of the reason the style of the forums has remained as simple as has been lack of personal time. Also once you start making tons of customizations, upgrading subsequent vbulletins be a huge ordeal.

we'll probably do something in the next few months. but not right this moment. I have some other priorities to deal with first.

I'm also very stingy about changes. If anyone is interested in posting samples of forums that you like, feel free. it'll be a good place for discussion.

One of my personal issues with many forums, such as the MacNN one and another one linked is the lack of contrast.

I contacted about the redesign, I added my aim and all. Guess everyone was busy. Understandable. Well I'm down to assist in anything I can. On a simple side of my work, you can see www.ic3donline.com I did the gfx for that banner.

I can see why they didn't get back to you. To be frank. Sorry.
