That would just make things worse! I don't have much need to hook up a bunch of stuff to the iPad, that's what I use my desktop for. Editing on the little screen just isn't too practical.
I'm already sick of having having to remember the headphone to Lightning dongle for my iPhone X, and not being able to charge while using my good headphones. Now I'd need a USB-C to headphone jack dongle, plus a lightning to USB-C adapter, or remember another cable. Three dongles or extra cables whenever I travel... Just not worth the hassle.
Maybe if Photoshop for iPad turns out to be useful I'll reconsider someday, but at this point I'm sick of Apple's smartier-than-thou approach to its customers. There's no law saying you can only have one port, they could have had USB-C and kept the Lightning and headphone jack.
Couldn't have kept the same form-factor and had that ancient 3.5mm jack. Don't need a Lightning Jack when you have USB-C. Everyone whined about wanting Apple to SWITCH from Lightning to USB-C. Apple listened. Now you're bitching that you want Lightning TOO!!!!
BTW, a Y-cable for your analog Headphones and Lightning Charging is about $12 on Amazon. Get over yourself.
Time marches on. Too bad if you want the train to stop because YOU have picked a moment in time that you want to remain-in.
My entertainment system at home used to be a mass of RCA cables and an analog A/V switch. I finally got tired of swimming upstream, and one fine day, bought an HDMI A/V switch, and a few HDMI cables. The analog A/V switch is sitting on a shelf, and all those RCA cables are in a gallon ziploc bag. In short, I went from a totally analog-based system to a totally digital (HDMI and TOSLink)-based system in a couple of hours one afternoon. VERY glad I did!
Bottom line: Stop being so Parochial, and EMBRACE CHANGE! Stop seeing it as some evil plot by Apple, and try and see what really IS better about a USB-C-based iPad Pro. Users, by and large, will see this as a Positive change, as well they should. Actively try to understand "why"...
I wasn't suggesting you have a USB-C dock attached to your iPad while you have it in your lap; but for mobile situations (about which I have no idea what your interest level is), throwing a small USB-C dock in your bag so you can hook up to a Projector in a conference room, or transfer something onto/off of an SD card or USB stick, seems to me to be a very useful option to have.
