While the site is simple and pretty well laid out, I do admit I feel like I'm in 2004-2005.

A redesign would be nice. Maybe not as stark as the example, but a more modern theme would be nice.

Also maybe an updated logo? Again it's nice, but feels very 90s.

The forums certainly need a redesign.

The main site will get some tweaks, but I don't know if it'll be dramatic.

Speaking of tweaks to the main site, can the border at the top of each news article on the homepage please be removed (surrounding the headline in #660000)? It is inconsistent with the rest of the design and gives it the appearance of not being completely clear.

Not every update works but if people don't try then we would all be using dos.

DOS clearly needed to become more user friendly, and when processors improved to the point that a GUI was feasible it was an obvious improvement.
MacRumors is already user friendly and I can't see such a clear cut way of improving its functionality. If there are suggestions that would greatly enhance its usability then by all means let's take a look - but a lick of paint? Not for me.

I was thinking of something like this: https://macrumors.zendesk.com/hc/en-us ... I just like the user-friendly design. :D

For me, that is so visually unappealing - it looks like a confusing list of FAQ links.

Nah, I don't think we need a down vote button.......

I agree - MacRumors is one of the most civilised forums I've seen. Either up vote, or walk away.

Hate the ios7/flat redesign elements

As my first post at macrumors, I truly truly truly hope someone would consider reverting back to some pre-ios7 design elements. The macrumors buyers guide was one of my favorite sites on the internet, to keep track of things. The prior design's use of the 3D-esque red/yellow/green circles a la OSX provided an instant indication of things. The new ios7-esque flat system is just awful. No more instant ability to assess status of things. Now it takes time and effort to look and think and process...just like most of the ios7 redesign. No more "it just works." In fact, on my calibrated screen, the white font on yellow background for "CAUTION" is barely legible.

Come on. Why the lemminglike adoption of Jony Ive's follies, away from something that just worked so well? So disappointing.

No need for a redesign away from something that's been honed well over the years and worked so well just to have something "new and different." Is such a redesign here admitting that all the prior work and results was "wrong?"

Would love to see an adaptive design. On my smartphone the mobile version is not triggered automatically and the full site is just too big.

Overall, the site could have a little touch up.

What phone do you have?

I'd enjoy a Yosemite style update.

Though I'd enjoy every website to be updated with a clean UI (especially Apple. Come on you have Yosemite and iOS 8, what's with keeping the Leopard UI bar?)

In my opinion there's nothing wrong with MacRumors's current design, I just personally would like to see a restyle, similar to /r/apple's recent redesign.

I absolutely like how simple it looks. Very easy to navigate and read. All it needs to be. No reason to make it all fancy and over complicate it with weird colours.
