Macrumors Nike+ February Challenges

Hey all, sorry I've been AWOL for a while - got back from 2 months in Florida and I haven't had any time to go running or keep up with what's been going on.

I'll be running some this month, but I don't know how much time I'm going to have to organize anything. We'll have to see how it goes.

D

we understand that everyone has a life outside of this. but someone does need to setup the next challenge. liketom has done it in the past, and has all the names. if you don't want to do it, then just email someone the names

thanks for all you've done though

I just ran a 17:45 5k, and it got recorded as 4.28 km. I had to go 5.75 km to get the nike+ to think it was a full 5k. So I guess it's fair to say I'm feeling a little frustrated with this technology right now. As I've said before, I bought a nike watch with foot sensor in 2001 that could do this pace measurement accurately, so why this sensor is so dismally inaccurate is beyond me.

no problem with me setting them up -

same as last month ok with you all ? although i might extend the mile and 10k challenge for longer so we can have the times logged

good job! yeah, i guess for $30, you get what you pay for. but i agree, it seems that we shouldn't be having these problems. good job on your run though.

fine with me. i don't know what everyone else wants though.

thanks for doing this though :)

thanks. :) It was just a tempo run, but I felt pretty good, so it ended up being pretty quick. It was a bit of a joy-kill to have the sensor off by 15%, but still a good workout.

yeah, i'd say that's pretty quick for a tempo run. ;)

believe me, i hate it when the thing is off too. it's too bad it can't be off the other way (like instead of saying 1.0 miles is .85, say it's 1.15!)

i know it'd still be off, but better to be off in a positive than negative

............. Know that I'm coming for you in March.............

Bring it on punk! don't mess with the desmonator! All your miles are mine:D

I've got a lot on in march so running will be low on the list of things to do. I wont be anywhere near februarys effort. I might get a total of 50km, if i'm lucky.

The faster I run, the more inaccurate it is!!
I just calibrated it the other day on the track running a mile. today it was so windy that the temp dropped 30º, so we ran 12 300s. After the first 6 (~56 sec each, total 1800m), it said 1.07 mi. That is not too bad I guess. Then on the second 6 I ran a little faster, and after those six (I started anew workout after the first 6), it only said 1.00 mi. 1800m is .125 over a mile! Then I did a 400m fast, and the thing said it was only .19 mi.

Edit: I just checked out the challenges, there is no trophy for second place!
All well, I will do poorly next month (well, March, so this month I guess) since I won't be running for an entire week, since I am working in New Orleans over Spring Break.

yeah, we already stated that it gets off more the faster you run.

taking a week off is gonna hurt your track season. i'd try to run after work or something if i were you. believe me, if i knew then what i know now, i would have run a heck of a lot better in high school

indeed, it does get worse the faster you run. It was off by about 15% for me yesterday.

And I agree that you should try to find a way to run over spring break. A week with no training at all mid-season will be a real season killer.

Problem is, that I am staying at a church, in a bad part of New Orleans, it is fenced in, and we are not supposed to leave unless we are riding to our work sites. I was there (same church and everything) over the summer, and there were 5 murders in that area in the 5 days we were there.

um... yeah. don't run. stay safe.
