FYI - I have been experimenting lately on the treadmill due to the white and slippery stuff on the ground. The nike+ is more accurate if you run toward the front of the treadmill versus the middle or trying to keep up position ;) (why not recalibrate? - because I usually like to run outside and did not want to have to keep recalibrating).

So, Try running up front for better treadmill to mileage matching.

That still does not explain the time travel issue I have noticed - treadmill starts up - runs for 15-20 seconds then I start the nike+ and then later when looking at the times they are the same or the nike+ is ahead of the treadmill...weird - so it is hurting my pace if there is a time issue - but is it a slow clock on the treadmill or a fast on on the iPod? Who knows?

i'm not sure about the time thing. i would like to think it wouldn't be hard for the nano to keep track of time....

I have a similar problem. I know either the iPod clock is inaccurate or the treadmill's. I've never checked to see if I'm loosing time, or gaining it. Perhaps tonight I'll pay attention.

that 1% of 400 meters adds up real quick. believe me

1% of 400 metres is 4 metres, so no running a track that's 405 m rather than 400 m won't make a lick of difference. It's a measly 0.1 km inaccurate if you run 10 km. Out of all the factors that make the Nike+ system inaccurate, it's probably the least worrisome, so yes, do calibrate it on a 400 m track, regardless of whether it's 404 metres or not.

Also, your stride on a treadmill is longer than it is outside. It's almost cheating. I can probably jog as fast as you jogging on a treadmill, but when running outside.......nope. There's no way I'd be able to run an average pace of 3:4x seconds per km for 10+ minutes if I was running outside. I'd die! :p On a treadmill, I can do it easily. It's not physically realistic, so I won't use such a calibration oudoors. Will I do a separate calibration for treadmills? Sure, why not.

If I'm calibrating for running outdoors, I'd rather calibrate my Nike+ when running over a 1 km distance outside, and not at the beginning of my run, either. Calibrating it after running for 5-10 minutes is probably the best way to do it.

Almost cheating?? I find the treadmill much harder then running outdoors, but that could just be the constant pace and continuous incline.

that's 100 meters for 10k, according to you. that's still over 30 seconds on a regular run, and probably more for most people.

how would you know if your stride is longer on a treadmill? and how/why would that apply to everyone?

everyone's stride is different. some people i'm sure are better on treadmills than others. and you can change your stride a little if you try

Well, I am really unhappy with the whole nike + ipod thing. First off, I have a 5:50 mile, says it is my best on the ipod, but on nike it says my best mile is 7:23 or something.

Also, it froze/crashed again today, this time 5 minutes before the end of my workout. There is another 5 miles that I get cheated out of for the contest I already started a week late.

I have at least 60 miles this month, but the nike + stats won't tell that, since the thing is junk. I almost regret how excited I was to get this thing and se it and everything.

I just don't get why it crashes. Anyone else have this problem? I took twoodcc's advice and had it play music and hold it in my hand all the time, and this still happened.

Vader, sorry to hear about your troubles. I had a problem where the connection between the ipod and the sensor would just die midway through runs, and I exchanged the sensor and receiver at an apple store. My new ones work fine, so don't give up yet - try to get a new one first.

As for your 5:50 mile, unless it's the first mile of the run it doesn't count for the challenge, which, as discussed earlier in the thread, is quite silly. But that's the way it is for now.

i'm sorry to hear this....give it time and see if it gets any better.

and like QCassidy352 said, it has to be the first mile of the workout for the challenge. with my mile, i just ran the first one the fastest (but i still ran fast the rest of the run), but if you want you can get on the track to run a fast mile....

if the thing keeps giving you problems, then try to take it back if you live close to an apple store.

you said you had it playing music and in your hand? do you have nike+ shoes? is it in a case? (sorry if you already answered that question)

Yeah, playing music, in my hand (no headphones in though). I even slipped on some ice and fell at one point. I checked the ipod, and it was still going just fine. it was about 10 minutes after this that it froze up. I don't have a nike + shoe, and I am still waiting on a case, so the "pill" thing is in a half a stretchy book cover under my laces. It is very secure the way I have through the laces.

And my 5:50 mile was the last mile of my workout, when you are supposed to run the fastest.

My transceiver and receiver have different serials, one matches the box and is recognized by the online apple serial # thing, but the other serial isn't found with the online apple thing. I posted a thread asking about that difference, but got no answer. Afore mentioned thread

well, i say give it a little more time, and it you still have the same problem, then try to take it back or something. it's basically the only thing i can think of.

as far as your mile, you can just start a new workout for the last mile. or go to the track and after you are warmed up, then start a new mile workout or something. where there's a will, there's a way.....always. i'm living proof

well i had an interview today, and went to practice after that, and i forgot my ipod!

i must say, it's different running without it since i'm so used to it now. and i missed out on 7.5 miles :( oh well, i know i won't get any love around here

No you will not.. :p :D

hey, the challenge says most km in 29 days. Does that mean that milage for March 1 counts for the challenge? Or is 2/28 the last day that miles count for?

I think I figured out a major problem with me getting lower mileages than I actually do. Today I did a workout on the track. Repeat 1600s, really fun! Anyway, on the first one, I used my iPod, and it came out to .90 miles, that is off by a large amount! So on the next one I tried to re-calibrate it on the first 400 m lap. Problem was, I didn't stop running after the first lap, only tried to end the calibration while still running. I hit continue instead of end because I couldn't read the screen while I was running. Third time, I calibrated it for the full 1600m. I successfully calibrated it. On the next 1600, I couldn't get it to recognize my sensor, I kicked my foot an stuff, but it wasn't picking it up. I figured it would pick it up when I started running then. It did not think the sensor was moving until 40 seconds into my 1600m. Maybe this is why it gives me low mileage! I think I will have to take it in to Apple at some point.
Once it recognized the thing, it worked fine.

i think your sensor (and/or receiver) is broken. My first one was, and they gave me a new one. Now, my receiver recognizes my sensor after about 2 steps, not 40 seconds.

Strange thing is that it usually works if I just shake my foot, and it wasn't especially cold out or anything, it was in the 50s, so I hope I can get it apple sometime. Will they give me a replacement if I tell them it doesn't work right and have a warranty?
