Strange thing is that it usually works if I just shake my foot, and it wasn't especially cold out or anything, it was in the 50s, so I hope I can get it apple sometime. Will they give me a replacement if I tell them it doesn't work right and have a warranty?

not sure if they will or not, but it's worth a shot.

i usually make sure it recognizes it before i start my run.

On an unrelated note - Feb. ends tomorrow - is the group moving into March? If so the same set up? Let me know if I can do anything to help facilitate anything to keep the group moving (no pun intended) ;)

Seriously it has been great motivation so far and look forward to continuing with the group as long as my legs/joints and spirit hold up.

I'd be happy to keep going, at least with the total milage challenge. The timed distance challenges seem a bit silly to me because the technology just isn't accurate enough.

you are correct. but hopefully they are working to fix that.

i guess we could take a vote on the speed stuff. doesn't really matter to me

I hope so too. Haven't really heard anything about updates in the works for the nike+.

No need to vote on the speed challenges I'd say. Just do em if you want em. :) i might even stay signed up for them, just with the understanding that they're not close to accurate at faster paces.

yeah i haven't heard anything either, but one can hope.

i'll stay signed up for them if we still do them

Looking forward to a new challenge for March

Although, this morning my iPod was giving me some major headaches, I set up a run, I was about 2/3 finished, and it just ended, I stopped, reset the ipod for a shorter distance (the remaining 1/3) and started running again, thinking "that's odd". About 20 seconds later it died again, saying "please connect receiver". It was plugged in. I tried one more time and it lasted about 10 seconds before crapping out again. Extremely frustrating as I'm fighting for good finishes in 3 of my challenges.

Any advice? Anyone else have this problem, could it be a fluke and it'll work fine the next time I run, or should I go ahead and call Apple about the warranty?

i've had a similar problem. before trying again, connect it to your computer, then try it again, and see if it works normally (try walking a little bit or something to test it)

give it 2 more trys before calling Apple. i think i had a similar problem, and it keep doing it about 2 more times, and then it started acting normally again

i sure hope that they are working on a fix for all of these problems though

twood, how did you gain 39 miles today? I sometimes don't plug in my ipod for a few days (because that's how long the battery lasts and I always believe, rationally or not, that a lot of plugging and unplugging will hurt the battery long-term) and thus have milage "spikes" when a few days get uploaded at once, but your total has been increasing each day. That suggests that the 39 new miles are all since yesterday.

I believe I have found another problem - the hold switch. If I put the iPod on hold while the workout is going, it often freezes at that moment, but not always, has anyone else noticed this?

i thought you would ask. but it wasn't 39, more like 37 i thought. but i said in past challenges that i run and walk, but this time i was only running. you see, i have 2 nanos (black and white), one i use for running, and the other i take to class with me. i was going to just do running on this challenge and not upload the walking, but i decided to just go ahead and upload it. i kinda wished i didn't though.

so basically i walked around 30 miles this month. ran about 160

i'm not sure. when running, i hold it in my hand, so i don't need the hold switch on. and i sometimes adjust the volume or song

hey, i still did the miles. but if you want, you can say that you ran more miles than me

I walk over two miles a day on average (I live off campus and have no car to commute to school). I thought this "challenge" was based on miles run, not miles in motion.

Sorry if you think I'm being unreasonable, but I was under the impression that these challenges were supposed to be competitive as well as fun. I'm certainly a competitive person (I'm sure you understand that as a fellow xc and track runner) and this really rubs me the wrong way.

well the last 2 challenges i was 180 miles or over. that included the walking and running. so it's not like i'm cheating and going from 160 miles last month to 190 miles this month. (i say that b/c i think some people do cheat, i've seen 200 miles in a week before:eek: )

but i see where you are coming from. if i could, i'd take the miles off. then we'd get to see who could do the most before 6:59 tomorrow. but i don't think it's possible.

i still have two weeks.

it'll be here before you know it:)

its distance that counts. I can't run that far...5k and then I have to start walking...

Distance walked as exercise is one thing; I have no problem with that. Distance walked in street clothes, just going about your business during the course of the day, seems quite a bit different to me.

twood, what you want to do with your nike+ is ultimately your business - it's your training tool. If you choose to upload miles from walking around campus because you want to have that data then so be it. (Personally, I don't see any training value there so it's not data I'd want, but that's just me.)

Again, I realize this is mostly just for fun, but given that there is a competitive aspect to it, I'd have liked to have known the rules of the game up front. Anyway, as you said, there's nothing to be done about it now.

and for the record, there are people who run 200 mpw. but not many. ;)

Bummer..........I was expecting you to try and pass me for 4th spot. 16 hours 'till the end, I've still got time for one more 'big one'. Hope you get the receiver sorted before the end. Goodluck (from desmonator)

yeah, i see where you are coming from, and like i said, i kinda wish i could take back those miles. but it's too late now.

and there might be people who run 200 miles a week, but not with an ipod. and one time some ran 1000 miles in a week. now i'm pretty sure that's impossible. and i saw 2000 in a month. just look at the total leaders....

12k would be monstrous run. I don't think I have that in me just yet. I'm happy with 5th, it's a place better then in January. Know that I'm coming for you in March as long as my receiver decides to cooperate, which I'll know tonight.

Sidenote: I won the demi challenge, woot woot!
