This last week I have been not wanting to run. Just not enjoying it.
But I decided to see this through.........going for as much distance as I can.
I'm missing interval training.
Hopefully the motivation will return.

I'm not running for a few weeks.
Need to recover physically and mentally.
I've lost 5 toe nails, got blood blisters on most toes, muscle strains.

It's been an interesting personal challenge, observing how I've dealt/coped with stuff that's happened.

I'm happy with my times.
This month I averaged 6:45 per km, which has dropped my career average to 7:16 per km.
My heart rate/pulse continue to drop.

Due to my age and a serious leg injury (from years ago) I think I'm getting close to the best times I'll ever achieve.
I would like to get under 28 minutes for 5km, 60 minutes for 10km and 8 minutes for 1 mile.

I'll probably never do a 'see how far I can run' again, but I'm glad I did try it.
I'm sure in a couple of weeks I'll be back to interval training.

Congrats, but even though you are a distant 3rd, your average mile time is much better than those ahead of you - so essentially you are getting a workout in more efficiently than those with average times worse than yours. That is why the distance challenge seems pointless to me as it is all based on the amount of time you spend doing it versus actual training for something and continuing to improve your average pace per mile. I am in this for training and getting in shape - I was using this as motivation, but it just seems like the rules should be changed or something to reward training versus how much time a month I can spend walking or running or in many cases for folks - both.

Maybe the average of all participants is calculated and the one above that average with the best pace per mile should win...who knows - but this stuff is just too repetitive and demotivating when even though the folks above you in the standings can run faster in the 5K, 10K and mile their average pace in the overall distance challenge does not reflect that. If walking is your workout then fine that is what you would do, but I would not expect to see you win the mile 5K or 10K - that means you are a runner and if you are a runner and winning a 5K or 10K timed challenge then the average pace of your training should reflect that. That is just my .02 - I am not that hung up on winning a virtual trophy that bad where I would sacrifice my regimine - the reward for me is seeing my average pace go down month after month - I am proud of that so I display it - I run to get in shape and get better at it not to win Nike+ trophys. This is from me - how does the guy who struggles to put in the 40 miles a month in this challenge feel? I don't know that they feel motivated by it, but it is what it is I guess.

i see what you're saying, but i don't totally agree. it all depends on how you look at it though.

i am a competitive person, so i look to win at anything i'm doing. if that means walking, jogging, running.....whatever, i'm going to try to win. if you are not in this win, you won't win, simple as that.

let me just say this: i am on the track team at my college. that is my training, not running for these challenges. so i do real training for that, and this is just for a little extra motivation. i'm going into my 5th year of running in college, and it is tough mentally and physically, especially after doing this for so long.

but please, don't judge me or anyone else b/c of what you think is going on. i know what you are trying to say, and i'm not saying that you don't have a point. it would be cool to have a challenge like what you described. and i would join that as well, and try to win (doesn't mean that i would).

sorry if i sound mean or something, b/c i'm trying to fight or anything. please don't take this the wrong way

please........just kill me now........please........

I don't want to kill you!
That's a huge run.
Same here, my legs/feet have had it, I'm out for a few weeks.

Once again good luck and congratulations.:D

yeah, but just put me out of my misery

but yeah, my legs/hips/feet.....and everything else.

the sad thing is.....i gotta run tomorrow......

but thanks, and congrats to you as well. you definitely deserve it. just b/c i won doesnt take anything away from you. and if it wasnt for you, i wouldn't have had to do that today.

That is a great time for you. Really great actually. That is like close to a 7 minute mile pace really good 4+ minutes faster than your normal historical mile pace...incredible actually.

My iPod registered it at around 7.6k which is why it seems so much faster when you compare my other times online. My pace was 4:20/min according to the sportstats.ca website that handled all the times.

I was 79th out of 561 at Montreal's HBC Run for Canada. I knew when I got to the 5k turnaround at 22 minutes it was going to be fast, but I never expected to do as well as I did. My unrealistic goal was under 46, and my realistic goal was under 48. So I was thrilled.

I really must find the time to calibrate though.

yeah, you're ipod will be off b/c you are running faster than it's calibrated for.
i haven't decided if it's worth racing with my ipod in my hand or not. (for road races)

but congrats! you killed your goal ;)
