OK - so this team thing is going to be interesting one way or another. I am going to set up a couple of different ones just to experiment.

One thought is Pro's vs. Joe's - you know the big guys versus the lesser ones many versus few...

Currently this month we total ~740 miles so far...
Last month we ran 1107 total

The problem is we have some spotty folks that are in one month and out or don't return - my list is close to 60...Last month we had 25 participants - this month we are at 21 - and each month there are a few new folks as well. So based on that it will be difficult to split the teams evenly.

So I was thinking as an experiment that we would take the total miles cut in half and one team is the runners that total close to half the distance versus the rest (Pro's vs Joe's), another one can be an attempt at equal numbers on each team and another can be a group challenge to go 2250 by end of year, but with holiday's maybe that should be 2000 mi.

Thoughts?

Also this will be an experiment for the 'resolution' type challenges for 2008 - one will throw resolve to a number and then based on that we will make teams to hit those goals so we can win in numbers and keep moving on. I also will leave a mile challenge on there as it will be an indicator of 'falsifying' data...I am thinking that we can just have 5K or 10K events from time to time...

sounds like a plan ;)

i say go for the 2250 by the end of the year, or you could break it up by month (don't want to look too far ahead). whichever you want.

you could just make both and see how they turn out? (as far as the group stuff)

I am up for anything. Any of these ideas sound good. Not much help but now you can worry about one less person. :D

Well, we would have been 22 this month if I had gotten an invitation ;)
Maybe I can get one for November again? That would be great!

Hey, I just got a nike+ sports kit for my nano a few days ago for my bday. I'm a CC runner for my high school and because I'm JV I'm done for now, and I would like to try one or two of these challenges in the off season. So, how do I join for November? :)

send ziwi a PM. or he might see this and add you. welcome! :)

sorry guys that i haven't been uploading consistantly lately. i've got this new internship and stuff, so i've been pretty busy.

i actually just sprained my ankle pretty bad yesterday. not sure when i'll be running again. hopefully in the next few days though. i usually recover pretty quick

I was wondering why I was in front of you...;)

Here is a PC vs Mac Challenge I saw out there - I joined the Mac one so can you...:)

We really need more or more consistent running...
We had 21 folks of the 55 that have been signed up actually log distance this month.

We are a little shy of 1100 based on estimates of what folks will finish with.

The top 5 runners account for ~60% of the total so it can not be top 5 vs the rest.

I will set up some team events and see what happens.

sounds good ziwi. some of the challenges that showed up in my email didn't show up on nike+ site though. i did accept the thanksgiving 5k though.

well, this month was a bust for me. hopefully when my ankle gets better i'll be more consistent

I got the turkey trot invite (which I accepted - we had a scheduled 5k that day anyway ;)), but haven't seen others. Are there others?

Again, thanks for handling this ziwi...

<edit> Cancel that - I got the others now - cheers</edit>

OK - We will see how this works out.

I set up a 1 day event for a 5K Turkey Trot.

I set up a QC's vs. The TW's, but the way it seems to work is that the distribution is set when you join so I have no way to control or even know the number of participants in which group.

I set up a run for your Mac team event where you run for the Mac you own or want to get.

I may add a few more today, but at least we have some set up already. I want to keep that 30 mile a month group going too - they are doing really great and I think it is motivating them to meet the goal.

Everything is by invite so if anyone wants in they can just let me know.

I will set up a November thread as well.

the mac team thing sounds pretty cool too.

thanks again for all the work you've put into this!

great new challenges ziwi! Very clever ideas. I'm declining the turkey trot because, as I've said before, my nike+ is not accurate enough for any time-based challenges to work for me.

The "2250," "QC vs. TW," and "run for your mac" all look great, and I've signed up. :)

Twood, I know a lot more about ankle sprains than I'd like to. Swelling moving down to your foot is never a good sign. Unfortunately, there's not too much you can do. Keep it elevated, keep it compressed, keep it iced, take ibuprofen. That's all you can really do for now... once it heals enough, start doing balancing exercises to build up the strength of the little stabilizing muscles in the ankle (the ones that help you correct yourself when you misstep).

thanks :)

yeah, i didn't think the swelling moving down was a good thing. i haven't been to the doctor or anything. i have been walking on it. i wear an ankle brace thing to work everyday.

you think i should be on crutches? i really don't want to be. i guess i could around the house

thanks :)

If I were you, I'd be on crutches. I've found in the past that staying off a sprained ankle for as long as possible is key to recovery. Keep aggravating it and it just lingers.

The brace is good because it keeps it compressed, but if you keep putting pressure on it by walking, I think that will slow down your recovery. If you must walk on it, try to avoid stairs (more impact) and any terrain that could cause it to roll out to any degree.

One thing that's really helped me in the past is soaking my ankle in a bucket of ice water for five minutes at a time. No other method of icing comes close. You do need one of those little neoprene sleeves for your toes though.

Good luck... we need you for the 2250 challenge, and you've got a team to lead! ;)

thanks for the advice :)

this morning it looked better, but i'm sure it'll be worse by the time i get home from work. i'm gonna try to stay on crutches around the house and all, if it stays swollen.

i do need to do the bucket of ice water. i have to do that tonight.

yeah, i've gotta get back. i also have a track season coming up ;)

but it feels fine walking. i might actually jog just a little today. or least go for a walk and see how it does.
