i just dont understand why anyone would want a wifi only version bc most ppl have a laptop around wifi anyway or not?

for me its neither i'm just waiting for a iPhone refresh

I have pre-ordered a 32 GB ipad from Apple. I was really on the fence as to whether to get a wifi only ipad or spend more money, and wait a little bit longer, for the wifi+3G model. In the end I decided that like most people I will probably end up upgrading to the next generation ipad whenever it comes out. So I would just save my money and see how useful the ipad will be to me, before I make the bigger plunge on the more expensive wifi+3G model next year.

The way I look at it, it's like a full year test drive. If I like it, then I will put my money down on a more expensive wifi+3G model that will come out next year, if I don't like the ipad then at least I haven't invested as much money as I would have. Plus I fully expect the next ipad will have any bugs worked out and have a couple sought after feature upgrades.

Won't be buying one, I can't see any reason I'd need it. I hate smartphones, PDAs and other pointless mobile devices too.

No plans to buy just yet

I recently bought a 32GB iPod touch with which I can get plenty of quality procrastination done. It's fun / useful for me at the moment (but then, I haven't used an iPad yet :)).

Actually one thing I really like about it is the 3G data plan. The main thing that turned me off the iPhone was Softbank's (here in Japan) labyrinth pricing. Most iPhone owners that I asked didn't understand the data pricing system well enough to explain it to me simply. A fixed, monthly data plan is pretty attractive.

I had every intention of getting one.

Then I found out I needed OSX 10.5.8 to sync with it. I run a 2004 iBook G4; they don't sell 10.5 anymore (not that I want to bog my computer down with that or spend the unnecessary $130 if I could buy it, let alone the $230 that the Amazon resellers are asking) and it won't run 10.6. That just seems like an arbitrary decision, since there's no obvious reason they couldn't have allowed syncing with iTunes under 10.4.

My computer is fine for my needs and I'm not going to drop $1000 to buy a new one so that I can spend $500 on an iPad.

If you only intend to use it at home there's no reason to pay for a 3G interface.

It's pretty typical of Apple to only go one OS release back on support. But still I'm a little surprised they're not supporting the iPad on 10.4.11, since that will leave a fair number of potential customers out in the cold. Aren't iPods still supported under 10.4.11? I guess not with iTunes 9.1 then.

What this poll tells me is not so many Apple enthusiasts are on board to purchase a new iPad. Instead, it is the newcomers who will be welcomed into the Apple culture. It's a brilliant marketing idea. Just another gateway device to attract even more future customers.

You may not need 3G (especially for an extra $130 ) once this puppy is jailbroken and you can tether your iPhone/cellphone to it.

Not making the same mistake I did with the iPhone rev 1, waited in line paid 600, to watch 3 months later a 3g version come out that was cheaper. I'll prob get the ipadS or ipad pro though I'm still trying to sell the orig iPhone 2g :)

No, probably never...

The iPad performs no function that I need or want, what I have already is more than enough. If someone was to hand me one tomorrow, I wouldn't know what use to put it to. The admittedly aesthetically pleasing combination of plastic, metal and glass would probably end up gathering dust somewhere, or being sold on eBay.

I don't see the point of the whole tablet form factor - every such device that I have encountered so far has remained almost permanently docked. In a tech lab these things may seem wonderful but in the workplace they are almost a hindrance to my productivity. At home, I just cannot see where the benefit would be over a laptop or netbook (please don't say I can use it to surf the internet from the toilet seat). The textbook thing doesn't appeal either, the only time I need information on the go is when I am at work and my iPhone does this well enough for me.

The iPad is an unnecessary expense and a mostly useless consumer oriented toy.

Of course, this is just my opinion, based on what I have read. I reserve the right to change this opinion without warning and without giving a rational reason. A change of heart may occur after I have played with an iPad for some time :D

We'll see how things are in a couple of years...

going to wait and see. netflix is not a killer app.

If I did more travel, then the Netflix App might be my killer app. But in the end I want to see what Time Inc., and the likes of the Washington Post end up charging.

Personally not sure if the added content is worth for the weekly Time Magazine App. In the past I have shared newspaper and magazine subscriptions with co-workers and friends.

Heck I can get the printed edition for cheaper ( https://subs.timeinc.net/TD/tdnewar...urce_id=9&_requestid=127937&_requestid=127937 ). That link, I can get 6 months of the printed edition for like .70 cents each! $4.29 for media content? I don't think so Time Inc.!

Nope, no iPad for me. Getting one of the new MacBook Pro when they are released.

True true.

Actually, if the iPad worked well as a stand-alone 'computer' I'd buy one for my parents, who, in their 60s would probably find this a lot easier to use than the desktop they have now.

iPad in Singapore

I am waiting to see the real reviews and comments regarding the iPad, as a user of Mac Desktops I perceive the iPad as an device I would use only to supplement my desktops, as a laptop is likely an overkill and would not get sufficient use to justify the expense.

The only hesitation I have is that I live in Singapore where the iPhone is well supported in the local iTunes store, but music/movies and likely ebook will not be available here - real draw back as we have been waiting years for a fully functional iTunes Store.

There are ways around this but the current situations will likely restrict the use of the iPad as the AppleTv for example we cannot rent or purchase movies restricting the usefulness of the device.

Come on Singapore - wake up to the 21st century....
