I have wdlove (see txt in red) 😉

You are very deserving, done just right. How about further support for MacRumors and join us in folding? See my signature.

congrats, edesignuk. your image macros (which i sometimes steal...theyre so damn funny!) are an inspiration to us all. and so is keira...

nice 'tar as usual edesignuk. 😀

but someone wants to give you a special title or something... but you're already a Demi-God, so you don't need it. 😛

but if there is going to be a 'special title giving', i'd go with what mymemory said in the contest thread somwehere... "Mac Rumors Demi-Good". 😀 almost like 'Demi-God' but, it's just good. but i think the impact would be lost on someone who was already a Demi-God...

Oh noes! Don't use my image macros against me! 😀 😛
Don't worry if he uses one of mine, you'll need a running start before you're stuffed back into your proper place.

Not really, considering that many posts consist of nothing more than "Cool!", "That sucks!", or some other brief pointless comment like that. Am I the only one around here who wishes MacRumors had a user-moderated forum (like Slashdot or MacSlash)? I never even get to read any insightful or informative posts because I get tired of wading through all the "Me, too!"s and whatnot.

Trevor

Yah, because scrolling through all those 1-line posts is so exhausting, time-consuming and complicated... 🙄

I find it ironic that in a thread discussing the millionth post, with many of the MacRumors "veterans" participating in the discussion, some guy with a grand total of 6 posts to his name starts complaining like this. 😉 😎

well, you know these lurkers read through the whole MR archives before they even register? 😱 😛 😀

and what are these 'macros' you're talking about? is this another term for 'avatar'? i really hope you people haven't been using Word... 😱

who would vote negative on such a topic? i would think that this topic would be a good thing. 😱

That's what I'm sayin'! There's more negetive than positive votes for this story so far and I can't figure out why.

I didn't rate it, but maybe people are jealous that their mac site sucks and so they are trolling over here. Or maybe some members here are all sour grapes over NOT posting the millionth post, or because they didn't have time to post that 'insanely great' avatar they'd been pouring hours into this past week.

come on, people are doing it on purpose. Seems the maturity level here at MacRumors has taken a down turn 🙄

Regardless on whether you think its a good or bad idea, its a great milestone. Anyone have any problems with that, PM me 😀 😛

It seems anytime someone does something online that others don't like or agree with, it's an easy out to declare "oh they're just immature!". Sometimes that criticism is justified; far too often, it stems from an inability on the part of the critic to understand the motivations of whomever they're complaining about.

I have a feeling that the 100+ negative votes are a statement that we come here for mac-related news/rumors, and this item just doesn't qualify. Added to that, it can be argued that it's a sort of milestone that's a little silly. I'm sure it's a source of pride to the site operator(s), and maybe to the people that post 30 times a day, but the rest of us just kind of don't care.

And keep in mind that around 40% of the people voting don't agree with the negative voters, so you've got a reasonably even balance there. The votes serve as a barometer of public opinion, nothing more. But to label the negative voters as "immature" while implying the positive voters are more mature is simultaneously arrogant and ignorant.

Congrats to all, and congrats to MacRumors!

As a sort of "old timer" here, I feel compelled to say that I'm very grateful to the mods, arn, and overall members from keeping MacRumors.com getting better with age and not worse. For the amount of posts that are here and the large membership, generally speaking, this is a mature, together, and helpful group of men and women, and it has avoided beautifully the type of random garbage and noise that usually destroys other sites with similar set ups.

Except the "drunk" post, of course. <ducking> 😀

Raising a toast with my treasured MacRumors mug...Huzzah!

Wouldn't not caring manifest itself more in skipping the article than reading through all the comments and then replying to one in order to state that one doesn't care about the story? 😀

Those ratings don't really carry any information. For a rumor, people might be voting on whether or not they believe it, or on the prognosis is the rumor is assumed to be true. It's all mixed in and therefore meaningless.

For news, it's, well, news. It doesn't really matter if the item attracts a cheerleading squad, because the goodness or badness depends on the individual reader, and those ratings on the front page aren't going to change anything.

Those numbers are light entertainment at best, there's no point in getting worked up over them 🙂

You must have seen them around. Images with some text on them, making a point in a slightly funny way! Bit like this one, only normally I'd use them with the

Free Screen Savers

Ok, I keep getting an ad for "Free Screen Savers" when I pull up the macrumors.com web pages (http://register.freeze.com/(ozepgv553htn1tbjrhdows55)/index.aspx?s=marine&f=13152). Of course they are for Windows only (but it doesn't say that).

Any idea WHY they'd advertise that on a Mac site?

🙂

if edesign didn't do it, someone else would have. it's not like it took a lot of talent.

You're obviously missing the point - the focus is not on who posted the millionth post, or if they planned it, etc., it's the celebration of a milestone for the MacRumors site. If you read through the posts in this thread carefully you'll see many people actually congratulating MacRumors as well, not just edesignuk. It's a very cool event for some of us who have been here for a while, but I can understand why someone with only 20-something posts to their name may not fully appreciate this.

ARE THERE ANY REAL RUMORS HERE???? this is a rumor sight, I think this thread is focusing on factual info, not speculation. let's see some juicy rumors.

To answer your questions, no there are not any rumors in this thread - it is celebrating the millionth post on MacRumors, why would there be any rumors at all? 😕 And yes, you are correct, this thread is focusing on factual info - and your point is?...

I think it is important for a site (or "sight" as you refer to it) such as MacRumors to post rumors, however try to ensure the most reliability in their source, the details, etc. as possible - no one wants to read hair-brained rumors with no substance to them whatsoever, as that is a waste of everyone's time. I like to think of MacRumors as giving us "intelligent" rumors we may actually be able to rely on and that have some basis of truth to them. (There are of course going to be some hits and some misses.) And if that means dry spells from time to time, so be it - I would rather have slow days on MR than new rumors for the sake of posting new rumors.

And I also enjoy MacRumors for an accurate broadcast of news and confirmed events - the site isn't only about rumors. If it wasn't for MacRumors there are many things I would never have known about - a good example of late being Steve Jobs' condition.

If you are looking for wild and crazy rumors when none exist and do not care about factual information and news items, perhaps MacRumors is not the site for you.

wow, you took this way too seriously 😀

I have no inability to understand or postulate on the motivations of the negative posters. Having been around here long enough to notice trends, its quite simple and should be obvious once you see it first hand yourself. There will always be negative votes, however, there is a marked increase in negative voting as soon as someone says something about in the thread. It happens all the time, and it was mentioned and discussed here several times before I even said anything about it. So, based on that, its just a silly little bit of fun, nothing more. In most cases, the ratings don't accurately represent the overall opinions of the members anyway since it only tracks the members who are actually doing the voting.

As for the 1,000,000 post being a silly milestone, you're way off there. The more posts to the site mean more hits. What do you think keeps MacRumors around? Income from the advertising is important to keeping the site around.

And even though this is a MacRumors site, you might be surprised at the number of members who come here for more than just the rumors 😀

I hope you have a wonderful, sun shiny day!

Im typically a happy, pro-Apple, pro-MacRumours person, but I voted this thread negative, because this thread is given way too much time and prominence on Page 1. Could we finally put this off to the sidebar or something?
