Im typically a happy, pro-Apple, pro-MacRumours person, but I voted this thread negative, because this thread is given way too much time and prominence on Page 1. Could we finally put this off to the sidebar or something?

Well, its just a matter now of some other news worthy item to come along....and it seems to be a bit slow. That's just the way it goes sometimes.

wow, you took this way too seriously 😀

And just like negative voters, there are always going to be a few folks on here who take just about everything way too seriously. I think it's the combination of mac-passion and a certain degree of anonymity that breeds overly-intense emotions in online forums such as this one. Plus, a lot of the stuff up for discussion around here is highly speculative or based on personal opinions. But that's the nature of the beast, after all this is a Mac RUMORS site. It's also more difficult to convey subtle humor, like sarcasm, without the benefit of facial expressions (beyond smilies, anyway), or without tone of voice, timing, etc. so it often goes completely unnoticed -- and a statement intended to be said in joking can be taken as an attack. Folks just need to remember that it is possible to have an opinionated online conversation without getting personal.

Anyone who doesn't realize that is just a complete buffoon. (Yes, that was ironic sarcasm. 😎 )

As for the accomplishment of 1,000,000 posts, I congratulate everyone involved in keeping this site operational, as well as the entire posting community of Apple fanatics. I'm relatively new to the site, but I'm sure I'll be around for the next million!

It is their freakin site. They can post what they like, and I think they and a lot of people are pretty proud of what they created and how successful it has been. This is great news for MacRumors and a really nice milestone. It portrays a promising future for MacRumors. Show some respect and thanks. Celebrate this milestone instead of putting the site down.

Congrats edesignuk and MacRumors!

As for the 1,000,000 post being a silly milestone, you're way off there. The more posts to the site mean more hits. What do you think keeps MacRumors around? Income from the advertising is important to keeping the site around.

Thanks for that Mr. Anderson, I couldn’t have put it better myself. Its not a silly milestone, and it does contribute to the maintenance and the future of MacRumors in general, both through continuing contributions by members (intellectual and/or monetary) as well as advertising.

And even though this is a MacRumors site, you might be surprised at the number of members who come here for more than just the rumors

Lord knows I’m one of those... 😉 😎

This is a major milestone for MacRumors, and a testament to all the members who have contributed in many ways to the site’s success over the years – I would hardly use a juvenile term as “lame” to describe this meaningful occasion. Are you supposed to care, you ask? No, you may do what you wish, why are you asking us? If you believe this belongs on Page 2, along with 75% of the other stories, then perhaps you do not grasp the concept of MacRumors. Lastly, it is not necessary to imply swears here on MacRumors, we’re all adults (well, perhaps not all of us...), but to address your subject line, it should be obvious that many people care, myself being one of them. Sorry, but you can’t expect to carry much weight making negative statements like this with your current myriad of posts. 😎

Congrats again to edesignuk, and more importantly to the MacRumors team for running such a great site. I'll be with ya all the way to the 2 millionth post and beyond! 😎

I'd say judging by the votes, this story is lame. Call it what you want, but obviously most people think otherwise. just because i havnt posted 36,000 posts here doesnt mean that i donnot visit it as often, if not more often than you. I also find it bizarre that every one is giving props to edesignuk. as if he did something marvelous. I guess i donnot understand the social meaning that some of you hold for this site. I come here to find out whats going on in the Mac world, not whats going on in the MacRumors Family. Maybe you guys should have a MacRumors Family page for your selfindulgent needs.

As I mentioned above, all voting indicates is what the people voting selected. Its not representative of the whole community.

And lets all play nice and move on - we can go back and forth all day on this - its pointless. Everyone has their own opinion, that's fine, leave it at that and move on.

This site means different things to different individuals. There are rumors and there is a large community. There's even a whole section devoted to political and war discussion. Use it for what you like, but if you don't like the site, there are other places to go on the web 😀

I can't understand why there are so many negative votes on this million-th post news item.

oops... me bad! not reading all the posts again...

I didn't vote one way or another on the positive/negative thing. However, I'm not that thrilled with emphasizing numbers of posts. Quantity != quality. Back when I used to participate in Usenet, it was almost universally true that the top 2 or 3 posters contributed very little, whereas some of the most insightful and helpful posts were from those who only posted once or twice. Hence, the development of "kill files" so you didn't have to read posts from those who really didn't have anything useful to say.

I would much rather the user's description (newbie, regular, 68000, etc.) reflect the amount of time that had passed from when they first registered, rather than be based on number of posts. And I'd be much happier to know that MacRumors had been around for a long time than to know that the forums have had a ton of posts.

Well said Mr. Anderson, I agree - let's not tarnish this thread any further. 😉

Oh, and I finally took a close look at your avatar to try and decipher its meaning - very clever, I like it! 😎

So post count doesn't mean jack to you, and the time since registered does? 😕 Neither are a clear indicator of how useful someone is to have around, you just get to know by hanging around the forums on a regular basis, and seeing who's who.

Holy flying tampons it actually happened.

Count one more congrats to edesignuk!
Thanku vniow, but you do know you just upset a lot of MR lurkers by saying that don't you? Lurkers which I'm sure you care a great deal about 😀 😉

Me 2, edesignuk! CONGRATS!

Gosh, I'm late for this!!!

Typical me: not around for a couple of days and missed the sweetspot 😀

BTW, why are people complaining??
This is gr8 news, good fun 4 all of us, and a nice reward for a very contributing member of this community.

Congratulations macrumors!! I have only recently started taking part in the discusions here but they have already increased my knowledge of the Mac platform.

And what's up with the negative ratings!!

Haha, if I scare them away by that then I'd hate to see what happened when they looked at some of my previous posts!

Dat's one crazy "macrumor." I think this rumor is too outlandish and belongs on page 2. How can this site know for sure? What is their source, someone's cousin who cleans the toilets at an Apple Store?

Who cares what this (insert appropriate insult) thinks? Why bother replying to him and giving him any recognition?

Oh yeah, congrats MR and eD.

Fair enough rdowns, you're right - sometimes it's just too tempting! Hmm, kinda scary that you're acting as a voice of reason for me, huh? 😉 😎
