There's an iPad mini, iPad Air and by human sense there might be iPad Pro.

@Macrumors

The rumoured 12.9" iPad is rumoured to 've a 4K resolution, this time, instead of sticking with a particular PPI that started the Retina trademark they could actually do a particular resolution for different screens and henceforth different pixel-density. The explanation? All would be assured it's still a Retina screen since, whatever the pixel-density it might be for the different screen size, the lowest pixel-density would not be lower than 326ppi. Since by definition, u can't differentiate between pixels above the Retina density, therefore customers would experience the same Retina-experience.
In other words this would also solve Apple to the interest of developers providing the same ease.

'M not saying that across all the devices it would be done but we can consider something like the different range of iPad there is like the iPad mini, iPad Air and by some sense iPad Pro.
The retina iPad mini does sport the same resolution as the iPad Air.
And now as the iPads sport the IGZO display, Sharp did showcased how they are now capable of having high pixel density.

I've seen some mockups of what the iphone would look like with basically a invisible bezel and I must say I hope we get something of that nature. The screen hits the sides of the phone. This way you can increase screen size and keep the size of the phone about the same as we got now. Oh and a bigger battery and a8 chip and I'm happy.

If the iPhone 5S will be replaced by the 6, what will the 5C be replaced by?

The 6C? Okay, then the 6 is replaced by the 6S and the 6C is replaced by...?

This is probably the least of everyones worries, but it crossed my mind :)

I think the 5c will be a 2 year cycle phone. When the 6s cones out then the 6c will replace the 5c. Maybe they'll give it a spec bump mid cycle.

2013 4s 5c 5s
2014 5c 5s 6(5")
2015 5s 6c(4") 6s
2016 6c 6s 7
2017 6s 7c(4") 7s
2018 7c 7s 8
2019 7s 8c(4") 8s
2020 8c 8s 9

I doubt Apple will make a phone larger than 5.5". Anything larger and we'd get too close to iPad mini territory.

4.7" screen, I hate phones that are too big for one handed use. Got rid of my GS4 and bought a Nokia Lumia 925 and love it, iPhone wasn't in the running with its 4" screen.

Also DON'T raise the price, I don't care what Kool-aid some of you drink but I was set to get an iPad mini until I saw the price. I'll be buying a Dell Venue Pro 8 this Monday, two purchases that Apple lost on with MS winning on both occasions.

I love Apple but they better not push their luck, my entire family follows what I recommend and when it comes time to upgrade their products I will not giving Apple such high praises anymore with the competition offering better value.

I mean rounded edges on the backside.

I'd like to see something more dramatic personally. Something new in the way of design language.

iPhone 4/s and 5/s share a lot of DNA and I'd like to see some departure.

So that's why 17 inch laptops are the only models available nowadays?

eh? I'm sure you're being sarcastic, but for those who take you seriously:

17" and larger laptops have their place. For mobile work I have my Galaxy (and iPhone 4 still) but for serious work I prefer a 17 mobile workstation with desktop chipset and RAID, but if I wanted a laptop for entertainment and play while traveling I'd consider a 15" or even 14" notebook.

as long as I can hold a larger iPhone in one hand

Fine. I'd like a bigger screen, but not at the expense of ease of use and not at a higher price.

If it becomes more costly to get all the bells and whistles, I might consider the cheaper iPhone if it means a larger screen at a price I am willing to pay. I am not going to worry too much since upgrading phones is not a priority.

That all seems very confusing. If they stick with the numbers then it would make sense to divide the iPhone into a "c" "s" and "x" range.

So the 4" plastic 5c will eventually be replaced with a 6c
The 5s will be upgraded to a 4.5" screen and will become the 6s
A new 5" screen variant will be called the 6x

They won't continue with the current 5 then 5s policy. Each year we'll get one or two new versions. So the 6x will be introduced in 2014. Then in 2015 it will see a spec bump but no name change (still called the 6x). Then in 2016 there will be a new design and they'll call it the 7x. And so on. The numbers only change with a new design and the "c", "s" or "x" stays on each version.

I also think they will make an iPad Nano coming in at 6" screen. Take the LTE version and you could in theory make phone calls or use it as a phablet if you wanted.

The reason I think they'll do this is that I think they will scrap the entire current range of iPods next year (Shuffle, Nano, Touch and Classic) and replace them with an all new range of wearable iPods, including a watch for general use, a wrist band for sports, wireless headphones with the iPod built in, etc.

Apple has applied for a patent on using their fingerprint sensor as a cursor pad.

Interesting. Seems logical that would extend their Touch ID tech to all their other products over time. They could even build it into the keyboard for the iMac and Mac Pro. Speaking of which when are we going to see a wireless keyboard with touch pad built in. I can never seem to keep them in alignment on my desk.

I will not believe a single thing until at least 3-4 months before launch.

'What if Apple calls the the next 5C the 5CS before making the 6C? That might be more in line with the naming scheme.

If this iPhone doesn't start at 32GB then I'll be giving a serious look at Android. Their profit margins on storage are just stupid huge and I refuse to support a company that will intentionally rob their customers like that.

If the new iPhone gets any bigger I will not be able to use it with one hand!....I will have to press the buttons with my nose or maybe even my spare hand.

Dreadful.

You must have small hands.

The only device I have trouble using with one hand is the iPad Mini. I SO wish they'd make that smaller so I can one hand it!

My number 1 wish is that iPhone 6 raises the default flash storage to 32gb.

Then they can offer 32/64/128 gb.

:)

True. I wouldn't need the 128GB model, but I'd love to finally get something over 64GB on an Apple phone . . . . . like I can do with just about every other phone on the market.

I'm hoping jony I've has really been pulling out the stops for the next iteration. He's basically had only the 5c to deal with iPhone wise as 5s was minor colour choices only.

The 6 IMHO will be two sizes, at a push three sizes.

4.5 inch 16:9 screen massively reduced bezels removal of the home button somehow is what i really want to see.

6 inch 16:9 screen, razor thin, large screen size helps reduce battery depth.

fingerprint sensor maybe integrated into the screen itself.

I think maybe these things aren't yet possible to achieve,

They will never get rid of that home button now. Prior to the 5s it was totally useless and a real waste of space.

Now, it's totally useless and a real waste of space unless you use the fingerprint scanner.

Seriously? This early?

The sooner and more fanciful the iPhone 6 rumours, the sooner Apple has to engineer a complete leak to lower expectations.

Remember this one from 2011? Everyone was so certain…

Talk it up MacRumors. 6" screen, 7" screen…

Seriously? This early?

What do you expect from iSheep?

17-24 hour battery and a bigger display would get me to buy this thing faster than anything I've ever done before.

I would never use NFC, but if Apple can implement it to shut people up and get on a much much higher track with Samsung and Android, then so be it.

A forth color option would be nice, but It'd need to be bright. And maybe be exclusive to Apple Online Stores and Apple Retail Stores.

Despite the constant claims otherwise, the numbers just don't support the idea that the iPhone's current screen size is in any way a detriment to its sales. The 'large screen' Android segment is, outside of Korea, a very small portion of phone sales.

As someone who lives in Hong Kong and travels throughout Asia on an almost daily basis, I have to tell you, that you couldn't be more wrong in your assessment.

Good lord, I can't believe that :apple: is simply not selling 2 size models and be done with it. Literally all of their other products are offered in various sizes. The iPhone is the odd one out here. Continue to build one with a tiny 4" screen and offer one 5+" screen, so people have a choice.

I think Cook, Schiller and Ive should travel the subway in HK just one time and they would crawl back to Cupertino with their (4") tail hanging between their legs.

Pointless article. This is less of a "what we expect" and more of a "list of technologies that exist/might exist at some point in the future".

Anyone that claims to know what the next iPhone is going to be like at this stage - when stores are only just getting full stocks of the 5S - is speaking out of their arse.

The fact that you guys' silly theories about future naming conventions are headache-inducing & super hard to follow pretty much guarantees that they are wrong.

Lol, at your family- blindly following you and being stuck in what is currently a VERY niche minority... those running windows 8 on a tablet. NOT a smart or cool spot to place users so inept at technology that they rely on you to tell them what to do.
Also.... power trip much??

What We Expect for iPhone 6?

About half of what the original Galaxy had. lol

Lol stands for "laugh out loud"... NOT "I have the most idiotic post of the day; I claimed that a 2010 phone capped by Samsung at Android 2.3, with low resolution, a half gb of ram, no 4g, a single core 1ghz proc was TWICE as good as Apple's NEXT flagship phone..... asinine, right??"

Not sure if it's been mentioned before... But Apple is predictable on screen size via their resolutions.

One of the things that separates the iPhone from Android is their adherence to resolutions that are compatible. If a bigger iPhone comes along it will no doubt be something compatible with the current iPhone 5 resolution. Meaning it will likely be a little wider and maybe a little taller. But it will likely stay at a 16:9 ratio. It will also remain at a retina ppi, Apple doesn't downgrade.

So, you need...
- 16:9 Ratio
- Over 220 PPI (maybe 326ppi)

So, you're probably looking at something like a 1280 x 720 phone in a 4.5" display. Which calculates exactly to 326.36 PPI.

Apple hates fragmentation.. They're not going to fragment their screen resolutions so much that it decreases app quality of current applications. They're not going to pull an android and change their aspect ratios. They'll simply enable developers to add more content. That's why i'm betting if they leave the iPhone 5 dimensions. It will be a iPhone w/ 4.5" Display @ 1280 x 720. They may even call it the "iPhone HD"

The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c have only been out for a few months, but attention is already turning to Apple's plans for the next generation of iPhone, likely to appear in late 2014. Rumors have indicated that a larger, perhaps curved, display may be one of the key features of the next iPhone, which is generally being referred to as the "iPhone 6" by the rumor community.

Rumors about the iPhone 6 and a potential successor to the iPhone 5c will undoubtedly escalate in the coming months, so MacRumors has put together a new iPhone 6 roundup to help readers stay on top of the latest reports.

As with our other roundups, the goal of our iPhone 6 roundup is to simply answer the question of "What are you expecting" for Apple's next iPhone at any given time. That opinion is certain to change over time as new rumors are revealed, and our roundup will be updated regularly to reflect the latest rumors.

All of our roundups continue to be accessible through a dedicated index page showing a full list of our available roundups ordered by most recently updated, as well as directly through the "Roundups" tab in the navigation bar on all MacRumors pages.

As much as I hate to finally admit it, I think a larger screen is now inevitable. I'm not sure that confusing people with too many devices is a good move though. I'm pretty happy with my 5S, but placed alongside a Galaxy or similar you really do notice the screen limitations.
