Sell it on eBay and put the money towards the new one. That is what I am doing!

That's what I've done in the past. Loaded it up with software, sell it before the AppleCare runs out. My 6-Core MacPro5,1 is going on three years, AppleCare runs out next month. Depending on price points and reasonable specs for the new system, it may not pan out as well.

Do you believe people will want current Mac Pro's over the new system, thus driving demand and price online?

Desperately needing a new MBP... thinking about the possibilities though of the new Mac Pro + MacBook Air + Screens 3. And I want the new iPad Mini

What about the update to the thunderbolt display!?

Want: 27" Retina/4K display/resolution, USB 3.0, Thunderbolt 2 for $999

Reality: 27", 2560 x 1440, USB 3.0, Thunderbolt 2 for $999

OR

Reality: 27" Retina/4K display/resolution, USB 3.0, Thunderbolt 2 for $2499

Stop with iPad-iPhone rumors and let's get started to hear Mac centric rumors...

The Mac business is tiny, so we talk less of it. Oh but this is MACrumors right? Well Facebook isn't a book with face pics on it. iToys outsell and make more money for Apple and Macrumors. That's the bottom line.

i have been carefully selecting midrange tower models since my G3/400 in blue, selling them at appropriate times, configuring them nicely, saving the boxes, and posting them with good descriptions on EBay to help facilitate each upgrade. It's been overall a reasonable price tag to upgrade at each generation.

Now, my 4,1 tower is pretty old, the EBay values are under $1,000 in just about any configuration, my 24" Cinema is pretty low, etc. I'm going to need more money than I ever have to make this jump.

Since I'm going to be stuck with external storage anyway, the iMac is a much more palatable alternative than before. I generally run a pair of decent sized RAID 1 mirrored boot drives, a pair of RAID 1 data drives for important data, a time machine drive, and an additional drive for items I don't care to have redundant. The cost of a 27" 3TB iMac, plus all the external drive hardware I need to support my current workspace, is already basically the price of a typical Mac Pro over the last few generations. SSDs, 4K monitors, etc. is a giant EEK for me. I have a feeling I'll be approaching the expense level of a dream Iici system back in the day ($7k) to fully outfit the new Mac Pro the way I use my tower.

I hope I'm wrong.

Mavericks?

What about OS X Mavericks? If there's a Roundup page on iOS there really should be one on OS X. Or does that hide elsewhere on the site?

I'm not sure why exactly, but for some reason I feel this Mac Pro will be the cheapest of all time. Small form factor means cheaper to produce. Consumer level advertising campaign. It just smells funny to me.

Not cheap, but inexpensive...

Doesn't smell funny to me... smells like computing power to me

Apple will be updating the displays when they introduce their 4K display, which will coincide with the new Mac Pro launch. The new Mac Pro is the first Mac with built-in support to drive 4K displays, and it can drive three of them. This will likely be a Retina-type display, roughly double the resolution of the current 2560x1440 displays.

If my 15" rMBP cannot power at least 2 of these displays, it will be going on ebay..

...and :apple: better release a rMBP that can support it.

Great round up MacRumors! Really covered everything in detail.

Not a chance. Even at current Mac Pro pricing, given what we know, Apple would be selling at even or eating costs.

At the 12 core level, maybe. But in the 4/6 core versions there's just no reason for the prices to be higher than they are right now. The math just doesn't add up.

I want a 13in rMBP so badly, but with being out of school now, all I use my laptop for is MacRumors, reddit, twitter, and the occasional Facebooking, so really no need to upgrade :(

Likewise, I used to take all sorts of notes and read textbooks and pdfs on my iPad 3 (which I sold a few months ago).. but again, no need for any of that now, so why get a new iPad :(

Life is sooo difficult :(

Lordy, you're living a shallow life if all you do is social media on your computer. Get some fresh air and meet some un-virtual friends. :D

why no apple tv roundup? it's a "hobby" and all but they've sold millions of the thing and there's constant speculation of an actual apple produced tv in addition to a likely hardware update coming soon. and new apps, etc. buyers guide and roundup on this seems to make sense, to me anyway.
