MacRumors doesn't really have a need for new moderators now. As the community grows, I'd suspect that a need for additional moderators will surface.

Yes, was just wondering how people became mods....the future looks good MR seems to be growing very fast  ;)

Few have been chosen. Called and lifted from the ranks of mere poster to the rariefied and lofty heights of mod-dom.

Or on the other hand, you could just beg like edesignuk did. :D :p

OK. Why am I getting this impression of Arn hanging off a platform with some Macrumors fanboy stretching out his hand. "Arn....I am your moderator" NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't really know the true connection between MacRumors and MacBytes but how I would love it if MacBytes created an RSS/XML feed.

On a lighter note. I moderated pocketpcpassion for about a year and a half all myself until Dale started getting more mods. I appreciate how difficult it can be to mod a forum. Hard and fast rules are a joke. You run across so many questionable circumstances its ridicules. People get pissed about some of the things mods do. (God know I had enough people bitching at me.) But most don't realize that a lot of the decisions are off the cuff trying to adhere to a common sense. Finding that balance between a dictatorship and controlled chaos is hard. Even more so when you deal with sites that attract the opposition (e.g. Pocket pc vs. Palm. Mac vs. PC.) It’s a hard gig to manage. I was always questioning myself about is deleting this post, editing that post the right thing to do. whatever. I'm babbling. Basically. Thanks guys for doing a great job. Arn need to make a Macrumors moderator day.

If it was, he'd have tons of stalkers... actually come to think of it, it seems he already does...  :p
I believe that was well-concealed humor, not a genuine question. ;)

Amen! I have mod'd BBS's in the past, and co-mod'd forums more recently. It is a thankless job IMO.

In in the end it was the efforts of the "staff" here that made it worth my hard earned dollars to contribute. For me if atopic strays off what they consider appropriate, they generally move it to the PF threads. Otherwise, they force me to tae a look at whether the thread was worth my efforts, only to be wastelanded.

Also, have you (Mr. Arn) considered stretching those shopping links horizontally across the screen? A quick CSS class could do the job for you.

Edit: I give up. This site has a ton of CSS!

Anyways, thought it would be a good idea to get rid of the extra white space.

Moderating is almost a job in itself. I moderate 2 automotive forums, and I have been asked to moderate a 3rd (almost as large as this forum). I have turned them down, but it was an honor to say the least.

The sad thing is, I spend more time on Macrumors then any of the Automotive forums at this point!

It's a good thing nobody's asked me to moderate any of the forums I visit. I have enough free time to do it now, but come June 13, 2005, that will be changing (my summer classes at college start then). If time wasn't an issue, I'd gladly moderate if asked to do so.

Yes, Moderating would be fun! Although I don't know if the MacRumors powers-that-be would be wise to give me such powers... ;)

The upgrade seems to be working! This place is blazing fast tonight and the posts are coming in at what seems like a very fast pace. Here's to hoping it can take the heat tomorrow after Steve's keynote :)

That will be the true acid test!

Moderating is probably over-rated. I know that on the CS server that I'm an admin on, the powers quickly become more of a chore. People constantly barraging me with requests to spec for "hackers", or kicking AFK's, slaying campers, etc. I would think that the same would hold true for an online community, but then again I've never moderated an online forum so who am I to talk?
