A very happy birthday to MacRumors. Have been visiting the website for a long time but had created an account only in 2017 and started actually using only from 2020.

The comments on the iPod launch aged well…. 🤣🤣🤣
I am curious - when has any comment here ever aged well? 🤔

It's like having a friend with the worst luck in gambling, and there's this inside joke that if and when he bets on sports, we should all mortgage our houses and bet everything on the opposing team. 🤣

Loved this comment on the iPod.....

I guess you gotta see what else was around already back then.
For example, I came from using PocketPCs (HP Jornada) and Palm Treo 650. So a lot of the functionality of the iPhone was already there. The major thing really was the touch interface. And to be honest, to this day I would sometimes prefer a physical keyboard.

For me, the primary reason for getting an iPhone back then really was the integration with Mac OS X.
Required reading for any Apple fan should he The One Device by Brian Merchant. The iPhone was a lot more than just a Treo with a bigger screen.

I think it’s important to remember that back then what we all wanted was better, more amazing Macs. We didn’t know we needed the iPod, and it was impossible to see how an MP3 player could be the device which would set Apple on course to yet again be one of the most important tech companies in the world.

Jx
Spot on. Everything not mac related was met with suspicion at best, and many people would even hope that iPod, iPhone, iPad… would fail so that apple gets their focus back on the mac.

Macrumors has been my go-to Apple news and rumors site for almost two decades now, I think.

Happy birthday, Macrumors! 🥳🎂🎈

There are few sites I visit thrice daily and this is one of them. Proudly “Joined May 13, 2002” but pretty certain I was reading pre-forums. Congrats! 🎉

Well as said, I think it wasn't so much about screen size but more about the mode of using the device.

And of course marketing. All the previous handheld computers were pretty much "nerd" devices.

But in terms of functionality, the iPhone didn't bring a lot to the table that wasn't already available in some form. I mean it didn't even have apps or copy & paste in the beginning (which other devices already had long before).

Not only did my friends think I’d lost my mind when I bought an iPod in 2001, they also thought I was nuts for going to work for an Apple Specialist. Those were amazing times. To see Apple rescued from the brink of bankruptcy, to go on to become the company it is today. What an amazing ride!

Conclusion. People aren’t complaining more about lack of inovasion these days , they always been making demands of more revolutionary since for ever 😂😂

Happy 24th birthday! One more year to go to have a silver/25th year anniversary. Next year will be one of the big celebrations before 50th/golden year, 75th, 100th, etc. Keep calm, be a successful site and be happy! 😊 Life is too short to be unhappy! 😊

Happy 24th Birthday to MacRumors!

MacRumors was founded by doctor-turned-blogger Arnold Kim on February 24, 2000, while he was earning his medical degree, and it has since become the world's most popular Apple-focused news website. Fittingly, we share our birthday with Apple's co-founder Steve Jobs, who would have turned 69 years old today.

MacRumors has been around for many major Apple product announcements, including the iPod, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and more:
(We've had such a long run that some of the images are broken in these!)

Thank you to all of our readers, volunteers, and everyone else in our community. We look forward to continuing to share the latest Apple news and rumors.

Congratulations!! Happy Birthday!!!

Perhaps nearly every day of my life for 24 years... took me a couple more to start posting on here, but I believe 21 years on this forum, even if I rarely say anything. So thank you Arn, and the much bigger new team!

I've been around here since January 14, 2002. I still remember the shock around this place the day the transition to Intel from PowerPC was announced. I also remember the debates about Verizon getting the iPhone. So many times I've heard "It'll never happen!" and then it does. The most recent being RCS messaging on the iPhone.
Yeah, there was huge controversy amongst old time Mac users when they went to Intel.
Then it was OK.

Then there was huge controversy amongst all old time Mac users when they went to their own M class chips.
Then it was OK.

Some things never change.

Happy Birthday. MR!
I have been here since the beginning, purchased every one of those products listed and have enjoyed this site multiple times a day. For some reason I neither signed up for the discussion group, nor participated once I did for fear of having the "wrong" opinion and getting hate responses. :) I appreciate all of you that have participated over the years because I learned a ton and have grown to a leadership position in IT based on some of that learning. I have a computer engineering degree and love all the passion around the technical details you guys talk about. I also finally signed up for a MacRumors membership because I said to myself. "Damn how can I at least support this site that has been so pivotal over the years?"

Thank you, MR and to all the content creators/editors over the years. I appreciate you. :apple:🎂🤟

Congratulations! It's my favorite site for all things apple. The forums have been invaluable over the years!!!

Happy Birthday MacRumors! Congrats to ARN and everyone that played a roll in this journey. I think the switch to Intel, and the Death of Steve Jobs were two non product related events that I will always remember the coverage of as well.

I have always loved the rumors, the photos of setups and launch release back when those were a thing, and Werewolf games. Those have all impacted my life. Thank you to all the members who made MR what is.
