Seems MacRumours is the only website I visit that needs this setting to be disabled to access the Forum section. Same to check the notifications.

Why does this website NEED to do IP Tracking in the first place to allow access, even when signed in, when no other bookmarked sites (and I have a lot) need it to be so?

I have Apple menu > System Settings > Network > Wifi > Details > Limit IP Address Tracking enabled. Doesn't seem to make any difference with MacRumors.

It's probably Cloudflare's fault

What happens that prevents you from using the forums?

What error message? Can you post a screenshot?
Yeah, I would I am just waiting for it to happen again...."Murphy's law" now I've said something, it's now working ok again...but I see you are on staff, so this may be good info for you going forward so when it happens again I will ensure I take a screenshot and post it.

The Demonstration Effect. A system that fails repeatedly will work fine when you try to demonstrate it to others. Like when your car is making a noise or doing something it shouldn't be doing, except when the mechanic is looking at it.

I call it "The Mechanic's Curse" - car quits making that noise ONLY when a mechanic is listening!

hah ya.

So, bottom line, we don't block "Limit IP Address Tracking", but we are behind Cloudflare. Best guess if you can't replicate it, is you got assigned an IP that did a bunch of spammy stuff previously and Cloudflare blocked it.

hmmm, possibly but afaik, even though it's a dynamic ISP (not CGNAT) with the NBN Fibre network here in Oz operated by Telstra, you get the same IPS even if the modem is turned off. IIRC, it needs to be off for more than half an hour for it to be given a new dynamic ISP number. This modem has been on for weeks, so again, afaik, the same ISP has been allocated when this happened and when it didn't happen.

fair. I didn't look too closely how the IPs are assigned. if it happens, post a screenshot and we can look into it further.
