Parallels...are they throwing in the towel?

Basically a give-away in this bundle...has Parallels finally realized that VMWare owns the virtual machine market? Is this their versions of throwing in the towel and saying 'no mas, no mas'?

They will and I'm afraid Parallels 7 won't be compatible with OS X 10.8 (AFAIK Parallels 6 isn't compatible with Lion either - I may be wrong tho, I'm still on SL because I didn't risk updating the OS.)

Parallels 6 works fine on Lion

LOL. I bought both Parallels 7 and VMWare 4 in bundles before. They have both thrown in the towel according to you. I already bought Jaksta a few months back but that was only $30 - not sure when it went up $20. Speed Download 5 has been in a few bundles before as has A Better Finder Renamer. The rest is fluff.

Those bundles often consist of software you'd never buy on their own.

Are you sure Parallels is not as good as VMWare?

Is this offer available to customers outside of the United States? Or, more specifically, the UK? The price is given in US Dollars and it's an American site therefore I'm a little sketchy... good offer though hence my interest.

Please quote me if you respond as I probably won't come back to the thread. Cheers.

Caveat emptor...

I bought one of these bundles years ago and found out the hard way that I received special versions that were not upgradeable, so the value claims were misleading. I didn't get product X for less, I got a crippled version of product X for less. Big difference. To be fair, I don't know if they still do this, but that soured me on those so-called "deals."

Well, in the video it made a point to say something to the effect of "these are not crippled versions or downgraded apps. These are the full versions which will receive updates and support just like if you had bought them normally". That right there makes me want to jump on board.

So, this isn't through the mac app store. This is through some website i'd download all the apps at once? Trying to understand. I'm a new mac user and all this is new to me. I'm never sure if i should worry about viruses or shady websites or whatever.

Seriously? Use DownThemAll within Firefox and/or JDownloader (to download YouTube videos).

Not sure you understand what Speed Download does. It combines with the FlashGot Firefox add-on (which does files and YT videos) and allows for batch queuing, pause/resume, bandwidth limiting, and has some algorithms to maximize server connection speed. That said, I never upgraded to 5 because they only added features I don't need. But it's definitely worth the money, so don't knock it.

Yes, you can buy this bundle.

I've bought this and similar bundles (from MacUpdate and other sources) and I'm in New Zealand. There will be an automatic currency conversion (and the credit card company will charge a small fee in the process, of course).

Only complication you might run into is if you have never made overseas purchases using your credit card, you should let your bank or credit card company know first, so they don't flag the purchase as possible theft of your credit card details.

Excellent, thanks for that information.

To reiterate what a few others have mentioned, Parallels releases a new version every year, usually in September. So if you're only buying this for Parallels 7 and you're going to want Parallels 8 when it's likely released in 3 months, you're better off waiting to buy a full $79.99 license instead of getting the $49.99 bundle and then later an additional $49.99 upgrade. Obviously if you're also getting this for ScreenFlow or BusyCal then it's worth it.

EDIT: Parallels 6 works fine on Lion.

Parallels 7 works fine in 10.8 DP, I'm using it.

Will I be able to use all these programs with the next OS too? Or will that make them useless?

Got it for ScreenFlow. A few of the others look neat, particularly Jaksta, Espionage, and maybe BusyCal.

I definitely *don't* need Parallels, Civ, or Speed Download. Probably none of the others, actually.

How do these aftermarket sales work? I would just need to give a buyer the serial number, right? Even if it was purchased under my own account name?

If I could resell Parallels (as I already have) and Civilisation V (dont want it), that would be great

Multiple Machines

If I download this bundle on my MacBook can I also use it on my iMac and pay $49.99 just once?

Rishi

Got it (and supported MR) mainly for ScreenFlow. Who wants Parallels, BusyCal, Espionage, Attachment Tamer, or KeyCue, PM me with your offer (some of these probably only worth $2).

One of the MacUpdate guys say in the comments section that Parallels and My Living Desktop are only for 1 Mac. Others can be installed on several Macs.

How come these bundles tend to run around the same time. I got an email about a bundle from Productivemacs

http://www.productivemacs.com/

And no, I don't work for them... :roll eyes:

I don't know which one to get, they both offer excellent values and software, but like most bundles or old Albums, not all are worth the price of admission...

I'm really interested in DevonThink... Does anyone use it? have any advice?

Thanks,

Coachingguy

They tend to offer the same applications on a rotating basis too.

One question: do I need an Apple account to buy this? I don't yet have an iMac (hopefully soon...), but I can't let this opportunity pass me by.
