Toast is wicked, btw, if you work in video. I use it everyday at work. Making DVD's, muxing DVD files, saving disc images, etc. It can do a ton of crap and it's easy to miss most of it unless you start poking through it.

One nice feature is merging VIDEO_TS folders, but probly not useful for most.

How good/effective is Espionage? Can anyone tell me?

For me, it was a life saver after moving to OS X since TrueCrypt on the Mac sucks compared to the Windows version, and encrypting the entire home folder with FileVault is not ideal when all I wanted to do was encrypt my Firefox installation and the folders I use for music and movie making. Espionage was perfect for me since it can encrypt most Mac applications and their content, and it makes managing encrypted folders easy. I have it set up so that when I turn my computer on, it automatically prompts me to enter a master password that unencrypts all my encrypted folders and programs.

If all you want to do is make an encrypted DMG file and throw a few documents in it for safe keeping, Espionage is overkill. If you need to manage multiple points of encryption (folders and programs) effortlessly, than Espionage is an indispensable tool.

Yes, if you have a Blu-Ray burner it will burn Blu-Rays pretty darn well.

Espionage? Why not use "True Crypt". True crypt is free and because it is open source many experts have reviewed the internal workings. You realy do want your crypto software to be Open Source so you can be 100% certain there is nothing stupid inside

Espionage is handy. You can password protect your browser, e-mail and any folder or database you don't want others to acces without knowing your password.

For full disc encryption use PGP. This is cool because you can encrypt an external hard drive with a password then use it as a Time Machine back up disc so when the robbers come and nick your time machine disk they won't be able to get your stuff. I believe you can't so this with TrueCrypt, but I may be wrong.

Never a big fan of ShareTool. It was a big hassle to get it to work then it would stop working intermittently. Tech support was not very helpful to me.

You're basically getting toast for 50 bucks because the other apps are of questionable value.

Underimpressive Bundle

So basically if you want toast, you buy, if you don't want toast you pass. The rest of the apps aren't very impressive to me as a "bundle" and there have been significantly better deals in the past. Maybe if they chuck in some extras (not the first two, they are lame) I may bite.

Yeah, that seems to be the idea. But I'm interested in the sharetool and encryption app, too. I've just been using encrypted disk images to store sensitive stuff.

They cannot be serious!

I'm up for a good bundle. I purchased several in the past (full and nano MacHeist ones, two Macupdate ones) and what I learnt is that I hardly use anything from them. Even the best pieces of software are getting ignored in no time. I have Circus Pony NoteBook, Parallels 4 and 5, RapidWeaver and Pixelmator from bundles and I use them regularly, they are great. But most apps I haven't even tried or installed even.

So I set up a condition: I need Fusion or Path Finder to be in one, otherwise I'm not interested in a big bundle. In terms of smaller ones, at least two applications would have to be interesting.

About this MacUpdate bundle - well, I haven't seen a more lame package from the two leading bundle groups. I never thought that MacHeist or MacUpdate would ever dare to bring something like this out and want $49 for it. Are developers ending the short era of Mac bundles? It certainly seems so.

No, thank you!

None of these applications is a must have for me. Toast would have been a good deal but it is a non-essential anymore. I don't remember needing to burn a disc that requires a very powerful application like Toast anymore. The iDVD, iTunes and Disco application that I bought years ago comes with free updates works perfectly for me. I would say thank you, but no thank you.

Well, no matter what we might say, developers are laughing all the way to the bank. Over 9,500 bundles have been sold in what, 1 or 2 days?

It speaks a lot about the amount of mac users out there.

rE Espionage, on the site it has a fee for the current version and a different price for upgrades eg, v2 to v3. What one do we get with this macrumours offer?

And here I was, thinking that, besides the people who complain on PGPs forums, that I was the only person using PGP WDE on mac lol. Best $150 I've ever spent. Especially since it supports boot kamp.

True Crypt is not a substitute for what Espionage does, and vice versa. As for it's internal workings, Espionage is nothing more than a front-end manager of DMG files which it creates using Apple's own system-wide encryption tools. If you wanted, you could find the files in your file system and mount them manually, just like any other Disk Utility created DMG file. That seems pretty legit to me.

Correct, TrueCrypt encrypted disks can't be used as a Time Machine drive, even after you mount them. Though, if you are using Espionage, you don't need to encrypt your Time Machine drive using an expensive program like PGP. Either use the Espionage's built in backup tools, or do as I do and lock (unmount) all your Espionage encrypted folders and programs (which only takes one click), THEN plug in your Time Machine drive and let it back up your computer. Your encrypted content will be backed up to the Time Machine drive in it's encrypted state.

Developers are not really laughing. Even with the most successful Mac bundles, developers were alleged to have received a few thousand dollars each.

In this bundle, the developer of Toast might be taking part as they are preparing for a paid software upgrade and they are hoping that the exposure will extend this alternative revenue stream. The same thing happened with Parallels 4 - soon after taking part in a bundle, there was a paid upgrade and Parallels 5 came out.

Really? What does it say? I need toast and I would not mind the interior design app since I no longer have a windows box to install my AutoCAD onto, I don't run parallels and I could use some ideas on placing furniture in my house. I use and love Voila and would love the upgrade.

What's that say about me?:cool:

So this isn't worth it? I thought Toast was a good piece of software, and I'm intrigued by the interior design product.

I think if you want both it's worth it. Seems it is not a favored bundle but for once I could really use at least three of the apps.

What I meant to say is that there are now lots more Mac users out there. I remember just a couple of years ago that these bundles took several days or even weeks to reach 10,000 bundles sold and now this one with less appealing apps has reached that level in just a couple of days, or less.

Good for all you people who bought it, I´m sure it is $50.00 well spent for most of you. And good for the developers so they continue to give us great new apps.
