Only seems worth it for Parallels and maybe tech tool pro, which I'm not familiar with but it sounds decent. But still, you do save if you get it for just those two apps. Otherwise, the rest don't seem useful to me.

It would be a slam dunk for me if they had included Toast, but I know that would have been a stretch. I'm inclined to buy simply because TechTool is on here.

I'm just curious about what programs they will through in later (like the last promo) and if I should wait...

Getting a MacBook Soon...

I'm planning on getting a MacBook (which will be my first Mac, I currently own an iPod Touch and an iPhone 3G), but I don't think I will be buying it until early July.

Just out of curiosity, is it possible for me to purchase this and store the files on a PC until I get my MacBook, then install them at that time?

Thanks.

I fixed that for you. ;)This app has received tons of accolades and works flawlessly on all of my machines. Sorry to hear that it is rubbish to you. That with Fairmount are fantastic.

He is right in one thing: Fairmount DOES HANG when scanning DVDs; as far as I know, it's unsupported on Intel Macs with Leopard. I've had DVD Remaster for a year now, and have never been able to use Fairmount.

Anyway, I've never bought any bundles; but this one seems good for the price offered.

Well, you can't really store them on a PC, but what you can do is this: when you purchase the bundle, it sets up an account for you on the MU site. Once purchased, there is a link which brings you to your "Receipts/Serials" page, which contains the links to download the apps as well as the serial numbers to register them. I don't know if they are stored forever, but MU still stores a number of my purchases including their last bundle which was last fall. It will certainly keep for you until July.

That said, without your new Mac, you will not be able to use the apps. Still, welcome to the Cult.

Good thing I haven't bought RipIt or Parallels 4.

This MacUpdate bundle looks like a keeper. My last one was Spring 2007. Another copy of TechTool Pro for me now.

This must be an issue on your machines. I use Fairmount on my MacPro, MBAir (via USB superdrive), and now MacMini (all intel all running leopard) and it works without fail unless the movie has encryption that fairmount cannot break (ie: Rendition).

Snow Leopard is around the corner....

My concern is that once Snow Leopard is released, none of these will work.

And most likely we'll have to purchase the upgrades to get them to work.

Just a thought.... that's what's holding me back at this point!

moneywell

Does MoneyWell suck?

I've been looking for a quality budgeting software program that I download online statements into and this is a great deal.

Let me know what you all think!

Really good point. We do not know that they won't work but it's a question worth asking.

It's a fair point to make, but I don't necessarily think it will be much of an issue. Apps usually require a paid upgrade for their major releases. Becoming compliant with the next generation of OS X does not necessarily require a major release, just a point release. In the case of TTP5, for example, they just released it in January after being in development for a couple of years and was a major release over TTP4. I have a hard time believing they will be offering a new major release in the next 2-4 months just b/c of SL. Ditto Parallels, which just released Parallels 4, IIRC. I believe Bento or Toast may do something like that, but with the shareware type stuff selling in this bundle, I'm not so sure.

And look at it this way, by buying it now (at a discount) you only have to pay the upgrade pricing on any apps you actually like when you do have to upgrade them eventually. Also, no need to switch immediately to Snow Leopard if compatibility is a real issue.

First time buying a bundle.. It was well worth it for Parallels alone! :D I'm happy with it.
It's different for everyone when it comes to value and usability.

I will probably get it when I get home. As others said, Parallels alone is worth that.
Parallels doesn't do much that Sun's VirtualBox doesn't do, and VirtualBox is free. Only major difference at the moment is that Parallels has some accelerated DirectX support for Windows guests, while VirtualBox only has accelerated OpenGL support (for all types of guest) so far.

I have Little Snitch so I don't know that NetBarrier isn't redundant.
I also have Crossover and would probably go for VMWare anyway so Parallels doesn't do it.
I also have MacTheRipper, Handbrake and DVDX2One so I'm not sure that either DVDRemaster or RipIt hit the mark there.

Moneywell seems interesting and would want to know more about it, but certainly wouldn't buy the bundle just for that.

I've never purchased one of these bundles. Do you get serial numbers or do you have to install the software first and/or activate them?

The reason I ask is I'm currently in an all PPC home, but plan on buying a new mac later this summer. I was going to buy parallels then, but since I don't have the machine to install it on right now, will the purchase still be good after a few months?

Just purchased the bundle for the first time, lots of great apps, and WELL worth the price. TT5, Parallels, DVD apps, all in all more than worth it.
