Hey arn and co. I ve been critical of the site in some issues, and you be deleted my posts, but this time I gotta give everyone kudos, this a really great deal, thanks!

Tech Tools Pro

Just a fyi , the download is not corrupt. Read the bottom of your confirmation email and it shows info on making tech tools pro bootable. The proper download link is right there. Its about 750mb for the download and it works fine. The other file is an update to an existing copy.

just a quick question, is it bad if i have too many applications on my macbook?? i've got two of these sort of buddles already.. would it slow my macbook down even if i am not using it? thanks...

what about background app?? i have quite a number of background applications, is taht bad as well(my menu bar have 9 applications running, excluding apple ones)?

I've never purchased one of these bundles. Do you get serial numbers or do you have to install the software first and/or activate them?

The reason I ask is I'm currently in an all PPC home, but plan on buying a new mac later this summer. I was going to buy parallels then, but since I don't have the machine to install it on right now, will the purchase still be good after a few months?

You SHOULD be able to download the software off of MU later this summer or directly from the developer's site at any time. The serials to register the apps are provided at purchased and stored at the MU site on the "receipts/Serials" page. But it may be worth an email to the folks at MU to confirm.

I was already planning on upgrading my copy of Tech Tools Pro 4 to Tech Tools Pro 5. This bundle gave me a deal on the upgrade and all the other programs were a "free bonus." An excellent deal for me, and I bought the deal using the MacRumors referral link to help support this site.
Cheers!

OK, I have a couple of questions about this bundle.

1) Do you download each app separately?

2) How is the licensing on these? Can I install these on multiple machines?

3) Is this the full version of Parallels, or an upgrade?

Open apps use memory and apps use space on your hard drive. If you have room for the apps on your HD and if your Mac is not sluggish (i.e. if you have enough memory to run all of the open apps) then you should be fine. Nothing inherently wrong with having lots of apps. I have well over 100 on my desktop & laptop, many of which I hardly use, a number of which were purchased through bundle deals like this one. It's a fantastically economical way to go.

Yes.

Depends on the app/developer but for the most part you can, so long as it is for the same user (desktop/laptop sort of thing). You should email the developers for any specific apps you will need to run on both to be safe, but I've rarely encountered an issue with shareware apps. there are some, though.

3) Is this the full version of Parallels, or an upgrade?

Everything is advertised as full versions, as though you were buying directly from the developer yourself.

Exact same thing here. TTP5 for $50 made this a slam dunk. And there are a few of the other apps I'll be using as well, but mostly TTP5.

Oddly, Circus Ponies Notebook, one of those apps I've always heard good things about and have been meaning to try forever, is crashing on me left and right whenever I try searching for things (especially by "highlight"). Other than that, seems like a nice lightweight tool to use for meeting notes (replacing the much heavier but somewhat frustrating DevonTHINK Pro ... which come to think of it I'd gotten a few years back with another MacUpdate promo I believe ...)

One way or the other, though, it's all good. The bundle paid for itself by keeping me from upgrading TTP4 at full price :) Anything I get out of the other apps is just pure gravy.

I'm tempted to buy this for Parallels alone. I have an old PC that I keep around specifically for playing Age of Empires II.

Has anyone else here used Parallels for AoE II (with the expansion pack)?

I see lots of talk on the Parallels forums regarding Age of Empires III, which is 3D, but the posts appear to be old. Maybe the problems have been resolved in later versions. I don't see much of anything regarding AoE II.

Thanks in advance.

I just got the Windows 7 RC but can't for the life of me get Boot Camp to partition my internal drive. I've used DU from the Install CD and it still either says there are files that can't be moves or the volume can't be verified. I thing I need to defrag my drive and was about to order iDefrag then this bundle with Tech Tools appeared today.

Will Tech Tools do what I need for this? If yes it's only $20 more than iDefrag and I get all those other apps, most notably Parallels. Any help would be much appreciated.

For people familiar with the programs in this bundle --

My church records our services directly onto a DVD so that we can bring it to the public television station for rebroadcast throughout the week. We would like to be able to extract the sermon portion of the video for use on the website each week. At the moment, I don't know how to do this on a Mac, or at least don't have a program that can do it.

Would any of those DVD programs be good (and simple, hopefully) for doing this?

I bought it for Parallels alone. $50 is even cheaper than the upgrade price!!! I've been meaning to upgrade from 3.0... so $50 is a no-brainer.

Enough to tempt me

When I saw the e-mail from MU this morning I knew I'd be paying them. TTP5 is enough bait for me. There are a few other pieces in this bundle that I've looked at in the past so I guess the time is right to just plunk down the money.

Sorry to go a bit off thread, but I'm curious: I see this "a $xxx value" thing in lots of American things these days, but it just doesn't sound right to me - in British English I think we would tend to say "worth £xxx" instead. I think in English something can have a value, not be a value. Does "a $xxx value" sound natural to an American, or is it one of these legally worded advertising phrases?

Just wondering...

sounds fine to me, but I never paid too much attention in english class though.

I just tried looking at this program, and when it got to the part about needing to do compiling and all of that, my eyes glazed over and my simple brain melted.

Thank you though. Maybe I'll get someone who knows about these things to look at that for me.
