Actually, about 160 100 gig drives will do the job - thats say, 32 5 drive enclosures at around a $1000 apiece. Add , say 5 servers at Apple cost of, say $2000 each.
Total hardware outlay, lets say $50,000.

<lots of snipping>

I am sorry but these numbers are not even remotely close to being correct. Please check into the kind of hardware that goes into datacenters and maintenance supports on them again. Each Terrabyte of space in a datacenter costs you around 120k in intial outlay and around 15k a year to support when you get to enterprise levels.

The rest of the qoutes were way off on pricing for bandwith as well.

hey, did anyone else notice that Steve's iCal (i think) demo crapped out and he had to "switch to his backup system"... what's the dilly with that?

and during his iTunes show it was supposed to sort his playlist in some way and it didn't so he just walked away and said "that's what it SHOULD have done"...
oh well, I like the updates with Jag-wire (what's up with that BTW, was his turtle neck too tight?), but over $100 is a bit steep. $99 upgrade would be fine and still make them some money.

I noticed that too. Steve wasn't wearing his "usual" attire, right?

Did he think, he would sweat too much, once he does not announce new PowerMacs and then the crowd would "boo" him?

I'm sorry for all of you out there with loads of spare cash, but I would just like to point out that I paid to beta-test the software for Apple, then I had to pay (albeit reduced) to run 10 properly (ish). Now they want to charge me again full price for 10.2, which will make my old G4-400 work smoothly again. The current 10.1.5 should support even G3s properly and smoothly, and certainly should run better than it does on a G4. That's what was promised, after all!! I have used (and paid for) OSes on Apples since II+ days, and feel that current 'early' adopters should be rewarded for their faith with a little faith from apple in return. I don't mind paying £50 for an obviously great upgrade, but I think ~£80 is a little steep.

Any comments? (Gulp!)

You know what? No matter how many times I click I just can't get on those links???? I want to sign but I can't get in!!

hey techkid, get your facts straight, k, its 129 for everyone, not just os x users, so stop acting like everyone else is so stupid. its 20 for an uprade now through the time it ships, got it,and it is way to big for software update.

Yeah Tech Kid, and it's even worse than that.
It's not $20 from now until it ships, it is $20 from now until it ships if you buy an new computer NOW (which will come with OS 10.1) , and you still have to pay$20!

That is SO lame!

I would wait until August to buy a new computer now just to save the $20!

MPEG-2

I cant believe i read al of this thread in fear of beeing flamed if i didnt.
all in all im kinda upset about the new pricing. but if they expand their .mac featurelist and if jaguar is as good as maxosx should have been in the firstplace when it came out. i'll pay the price they ask. this because i do love their products and nobody can deny apple as a corp to make money.

but what i wont stand for is lies.
they said mpeg2 would be included in quicktime 6.
it wont!

it will cost me another 20 something USD just for mpeg2 support! :(

so quicktime pro will actually be more like $30 + $20 = $50 for complete pro features.
now that sucks!

i dont like apple's new business strategy!
and like someone else said on here, i think apple could lose more money on pissing off a loyal userbase even if they gain some new users. bad business.

my thoughts anyways

Email Account Management

I've followed that same link a few times and cannot find a 'Email Account Management' button. Did they remove it?

Rumors, rumors, rumors!

ibooks???

I need an ibook for school in mid August...but i have been trying to wait for the expo to come out with something good enough to drop the G3 and G4 prices....should I wait or should I buy now before the prices blow up at the beginning of Fall semester???

I too have been raging in the forums, but maybe we should check this out:

http://help.apple.com/mac/1/help/mail/pgs/mac43.htm

That is what you see if you have purchased the new .mac service and want to make up to 10 e-mail only accounts. For families, people with multiple email addresses, etc. Even then, each 'email only' account costs $10 more a year.

You don't get this option if you haven't converted at least one account to the full price .mac service.

Jaguar

now we know why 10.2 is called JAGUAR.

Like the Jaguar automobile, it is fast, and expensive.

I think if Apple keeps up this pricing scheme for future updates (and if we don't make a stink about it, and just pay, there's no reason they wouldn't) it might be cheaper to buy the Jag.

Tired of the whining? You know what to do!

As much as the idea is good, tha perition is horrible. Who would take a petition with A LOT OF SCREAMING CAPS seriously?

And what do you mean "tired of the whining?" all that petition is... is whining!

:ponders if he should continue flaming:

Bah, just chill out.

Hotmail isn't free

Hotmail free? Huh? Thats news to me.

Its not free and useable, they delete your INBOX before your JUNKMAIL box if you reach your mb limit. If you don't want to lose important e-mail you must pay.

Microsoft will reset all their users perfs to opt in with “select advertisers” so now I can now enlarge my organ with all natural… I doubt they do that to their premium members.

Once I got a hotmail account all my e-mail accounts with the SN were spammed (these are accounts not on hotmail, but they sold my Screename so now on any server I can enlarge….)

Hotmail is free in the same way the war on drugs ends drug use.

Only in a simplistic juvenile argument on "logic" in the real world its not.

good lord

freakin 300 posts on this.. i didn't read them all. forgive me, but Hhave you guys seen this at the register??

http://www.theregus.com/content/35/25677.html

Interesting...

Apple must raise prices - now!

"...We hope that Apple raises the dot.Mac subscription to at least $200 a year, and reconsiders its scandalous low-pricing - effectively a "giveaway" - of the valuable Jaguar OS upgrade. $500 should be nearer the mark, considering the many improvements and accessories offered in the upgrade.

And we're not alone...."
