I watched the whole thing and in the .MOV title it had "600". I loaded it up again, and I guess the bandwidth is now up the creek, so it had "100", as in 600kbps, then 100kbps. The video you receive is auto-selected based on conditions such as your connection speed, and the load on the server.

Weird, mine had "650" in it (m_mw_2006_650_ref.mov).

Same question as everyone, though: where can we download it? :(

Steve, put all those Keynotes videos on iTMS! Oh, and make them free! (it's free publicity, we show them to others who don't have high-speed connections)

A good keynote, nonetheless. :)

iLife '06 was the gem of the keynote. ;)

Yeah, the new iMac and MacBook Pro (ugh, again) are very nice machines, but iLife '06 was quite impressive. At first I was like "oh no, he's gonna talk about all the iLife apps AGAIN" but then as he was demo'ing the new features I was like "OMG that's what lots of people actually need".

I really loved the "put your playlist on your website and we make direct links to iTMS for extra sales" bit. :D

As for Keynote 3, well, those new 3D charts sure are pure eye candy!

I was 40 minutes into the keynote when it started getting jerky, and I haven't been able to reconnect since.

I think the quality gets better after the first few days - once the demand wears off.

As for the actual presentation, it was up to it's usual high standard and showed that there is an exciting year ahead.

Yeah... complete transition in the next 11 months. I'd expect the 12" and 17" MacBook Pro and Mac Pro to get the Intel Core Duo (two of them in the Mac Pro), and Mac mini and iBook last.

Here's my guesses for the new names (in case you're confused by my above sentence):
MacBook Pro = PowerBook
Mac Pro = PowerMac
iMac = iMac (G5)
iBook = iBook
Mac mini = Mac mini

... Maybe a Mac mini Pro too (same specs as the Mac mini but dual core and a better GPU with more VRAM)?

Next iPod: “An 8lb giant with a 10 inch screen”.

Can we read a hint from that "joke"? Replace 8lb with... erm... dunno, I'm used to metric. But replace 8lb with 8 something (lighter than lb), maybe that 10" figure was sort of a leak to judge people's reactions.

How about a portable media player from Apple? Is a 10" screen too big to keep it portable?

It does sound like my "palmtop" idea, although quite a bit bigger than I'd like for a portable system.

Forget the keynote download, I just want to subscribe to "Super Secret Apple Rumors" :D

links

can someone post the links for the different quality/size of the keynote stream..

My connection cannot handle the m_mw_2006_350_ref.mov file, but the QuickTime is quite sure it does. Changing connection settings doesnt help either.. I need the link of the m_mw_2006_100_ref.mov file..

ahem, yeah..... ok......

any insight into why you think this? at least the powerbooks were updated. the iMacs were a pleasant suprise...

Well I think its a lame update on the hardware front too, I shall elaborate.

I think they should have kept the three form factors for the Powerbooks *cough* Mac book pro *cough*. I have a 12" Powerbook because its the most portable, not because its the cheapest Powerbook. I also think that the specs for the Mac book, hell I'm going to call it a powerbook it sounds daft calling it a 'mac book'l. Anyway I think the specs for the New Powerbook should have kept the dual layer DVD burner, the firewire 800, 7200rpm hard drive as standard, and had increased battery performance. I also think that the specs of the higher end model should have been the only specs released, with the processor having been the 2.1ghz version of Yonah that was rumoured. The iBook line up should have had the specs of the lower end Powerbook.

The Powerbook is Apples flagship portable, it should be the best the industry has to offer. They command premium prices and should deliver premium specs. I think the release is an incremental improvement, and in some areas one step forward and two steps back. For me its not enough, I'll have to wait and see what the reviews say. And no I'm not the type of consumer who waits and waits to update, if the update caught my imagination I'd be getting it within the next month or two.

My heart still says Apple should have stuck with IBM and invested some money in the G5's development.

That’s just my opinion

In relation to the keynote stream, I’ve been trying for hours to get it to run and its still connecting! So frustrating!

As far as I know, that is the only way to watch it (via streaming quicktime).

It probably isn't your connection speed though. I have broadband and still can't view it. The server is just too busy. :(

So the BIG question is: "What happens on April 1st?"

Steve seemed to make a big deal out of it being the 30th Anniversary of Apple.

Something really BIG!
Something that will blow us out.
Something we have no clue.

I guess that's why the keynote today was kind of dull. Nice improvements but some steps backwards. (macbook no superdrive DL capabilities and no FW800).

Where Is the iPod Version?

Apple is leading the way in mobile video yet it's using streaming video for the Keynote? Please give us a version in .m4v for our iPods! Streaming is so 2004.

PS: Starved for quality free iPod videos? Me too. Unfortunately, the pickings are slim right now. Therefore, we decided to create our own. If you like eggplant, check out this homegrown cooking show -- Victoria's Secret Kitchen. Enjoy! http://snipurl.com/lgo6

why cant they let us download it? Streaming it takes forever, and seems to me would put a higher demand on the servers hosting the files, this slowing down the connection for every one. I wish i had quicktim 7 so i could save the file and watch it when i have time.

I don't think Quicktime 7 Pro lets you download it either. (not positive though)

well i thought it would because while i was watching it i went to file->save as. and it was greyed out and said 'pro' next to it. So i thought if i had pro i could save the file. But im not sure as well.

I don't have Pro, so I can't tell you for sure. I just assumed someone would have said "just get pro and download it, and then you can put it on your iPod."

Does anyone out there have Pro? Can you tell us?

I do have QT Pro, and it doesn't work. When you save it, it's just a <1KB link to the streaming file on the server. When you open it in TextEdit, you can see the URL, but it's still a streaming file. You can't download it (that I'm aware of). But if someone wants to try, it's:

rtsp://a2047.v1412b.c1412.g.vq.akamaistream.net/5/2047/1412/1_h264_350/1a1a1ae555c531960166df4dbc3095c327960d7be756b71b49aa1576e344addb3ead1a497aaedf11/mw_2006_1_350.mov

Quicktime 7 Pro does not let you save it either. I even tried "Select All" then pasting it into a blank movie, and I tried to export it, all a no-go unfortunatly:(
Guess Apple really don't want people downloading it.

Give it a while, it'll turn up on a bit torrent site soon.:)

MacRumors site worked as advertised during the keynote. Hats off to you!!!

It really does piss me off that Apple won't embrace anyone's technology but their own (well, I know that's not 100% true, but still...) and use BitTorrent as a distribution mechanism for this.

I get through to right after he's talking about iPod sales and I completely loose audio.

I really, really hate to say this (being a Mac fan and this being Macrumors after all) but WMV seems to stream a lot better QT does.

Oh well, I guess I'll just give up on this year's keynote addy...

I watched it... It was kind of laggy and it had to re-buffer a few times, but the sound quality was good:D Im glad they updated everything!

Hmm...I'm not getting sound on mine.

I'll have to download it later on in the week or something.

It took me in all about 30 clicks on "Watch the Keynote" button to finish it, between it stalling out when it was paused during my dinner and when the audio went out. eventually i was lucky that i had audio and video but unluckily they were about half a second off haha. Guys, downloading it is the same as streaming, at least on the server end. I do see that we would all be able to watch it later at the quality Apple intended, but if that option was availible the servers would be getting a LOT of hits and downloads would be slow.

It's a bit poor that Apple are having bandwidth issues, especially as connections are so cheap in the US. I work in comms sales, and on the few occasions I bid on international networks with US tails, I was amazed at how low the cost was for data connections over there.
