Maybe Apple will forget BD and HD DVD and just launch their own format! :p

iRay HD :D :D

I realize that Warner just went strictly Blu-ray AND that Apple's on the Blu-ray board, but Intel's on the HD DVD board, aren't they? I think we'll see both formats presented by Apple if they do it at MacWorld. If they do it any later, they'll have chosen one side or another.

Apple officially supports both (HD DVD authoring is already in DVD Studio Pro 4 with Red Laser DVD-R's) and their are on the Blu-Ray board. Apple supports both because both support their H.264 codec. However, when it comes to putting hardware in their machines, given the recent Warner news I have a feeling Apple may simply go Blu-Ray. You never know though since it was last minute and Apple may have already decided to do Super Blu-Drive to playback both.

My roommate just pointed out the Mac Pro's ability to use up to 32 gigs of ram. Was this always possible or is this new? BTW the 8-Core is now the standard with the Quad being a price drop option, and 1 TB SATA drives are a BTO option.

It looks like the Mac Pro got a minor update before Macworld lol.

believe me, they are not launching anything blu ray related, i work for apple :D

I wonder if Apple will release some sort of new product for the car...I know that there was rumors that they were working with Volkswagen I think on some car audio stuff.

I just have visions of having a car receiver with a nice, full-face touchscreen that displays the album artwork and all of the artist info. Coverflow anyone? (all though it may not be the best thing to do when you're driving).

Well I typed up a big long story about why apple chose blu ray over HD dvd because blu ray was superior getting 25gb per layer compared to 15gb per layer HD dvd gets. I think you got 720p, 1080i, 1080p confused with HD dvds. long story short I hit the backspace key.

yeah, don't you just love web apps now?

There is also a new technology feature, where users can battery-charge their iPods at Starbucks, simply by drinking caffienated products.

Don't laugh, I worked on that in a lab last year. Except, instead of caffeine, we used plain sugar. Oh yeah, and the research was funded by NASA. (Actually, it was funded by the AFRL, but it would have been so much funnier if it had been NASA.) It's called a "bio fuel cell" and it uses blood sugar (glucose) to generate micro-power for sensors embedded in astronauts - still experimental. I think maybe LSU was spear heading the chemistry. And when I say "micro-power" I mean power levels so low we had trouble finding resistors with low enough resistivity to even measure the power levels.

I was waiting for the part in the script where:

Steve, suddenly jumps out of a large BOX containing the new iMac with matte monitor and a team of highly professional staff for APPLE AUSTRALIA!

Guys, I've never in my life been screwed around so badly since dealing with Apple Australia.

I've spent the last three days actually researching and contemplating a windows product. I'm completely clueless with windows because I've never owned a non-Mac before, but after the way I have been treated by Apple Australia I seriously don't know if I can go through with another Mac disappointment.

Sad Mac user :?(

No, just sad Australian. Move to the US :)

I'm surprised that the displays didn't go down that much in price, i mean i just bought a 22" lcd with way more features than the apple one for $300 (not that i believe these leaked presentations)

Something BIG

I'm thinking Apple must be launching something massive this year. They have invited the European press to a satellite link up at the BBC. They have never done that before, not even with the iPhone. My money is on a big HDTV with a built in mac. What I really want to see though is a mac mini/nano with a half decent graphics card in it, and a Blu ray drive. That would make me a happy bunny for sure!

They've linked up with the BBC TV Centre every year for every Macworld since 2004.

You can't see it live, but the video should be available within a day or so from Apple directly.

Within 3-6 hours typically. Stream can be choppy. Its a shame they dont make it available from iTunes. For the price of a song I would even pay to download it from the ITMS.

Got any papers I can read about this? I'm not a physicist, so a review article would be the best thing, if there is one.
