Macworld San Francisco 2009 Registration Opens

My wish list entails simply a A/V Satin Black casing for the AppleTV. Everything on my entertainment stand is standard A/V Black... I just can't bring myself to place a shiny white box on the same stand. Also, if the box is changed than black cables to match. Not white!!!!

The :apple:TV isn't white at all. It's a "silver" aluminium casing with a grey plastic top and a white Apple logo.

I predict that at MWSF 2009 Apple will announce the first revision of whatever they announce in October!

My personal interest is in the next line of Mac Pros, and I don't want to wait until January.

That's actually a really good prediction. They can't wait until January to update the Macs, and the can't leave January with no Mac updates. So expecting the first revisions of whatever they have announced on October at Macworld seems like a very educated guess.

That's true, but some long-ranging predictions have come true.

Sure, if you make enough of them, you're bound to be right about something. Just a little caution against banking on forecasts, FWIW. The other side of this coin is having unreasonable expectations and then proclaiming great disappointment when they don't come true. I've seen quite a bit this lately. No, Apple has not neutralized gravity yet. Give them time.

Quad-Core and SuperDrive across the board (no more ComboDrives):
- Quad-Core Mac minis (dedicated GPU, RAM and HD bump, new :apple:TV/Time Capsule form factor for 3.5" HD, aluminium casing)
- Quad-Core MacBooks (with GPU, RAM, HD bumps, new aluminium casing)

seriously, quit smoking that rock..!

the can't leave January with no Mac updates
MWSF 2007 would like to say hello.

I can see both the Mac OS X Mac tablet and the iPhone OS mini-tablet released at Macworld. Couple that with iLife '09 and iWork '09 with new touch features (for the tablet) and a new mobile version (for the mini-tablet)...

...one big "BOOM." :D

Maybe Snow Leopard will have the iTunes 7/8 GUI as well as cool animations (like Dock minimize effect and Time Machine) just to get people to upgrade for "0 new features."

Quad-Core and SuperDrive across the board (no more ComboDrives)...

I am with you 100% on the SuperDrive as a standard.

Alas, right now both the QX9300 and Q9100 mobile quad-cores have 45W TDP's per Intel's spec sheets which is too hot for the Mini and the MacBook (Pro).

Sure, if you make enough of them, you're bound to be right about something. Just a little caution against banking on forecasts, FWIW.
Like how AppleInsider correctly detailed the redesigns of the MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac (Intel and aluminum), and the upcoming notebooks (given the leaked screenshots)? And how they predicted Snow Leopard was to be Intel-only?

Sure, later rumors are generally more accurate than earlier ones. But to dismiss early rumors as little more than guesswork isn't the way to go.

Whoa.. that's quick!
Just had "Let's Rock" event, and we've hardly had the time to wait for October 14th!

Remember last year there was a keynote in August (for iMac's) and then another in September (for iPod's) which was pretty close.

It's odd they still use combos. I just purchased a fantastic, fast SuperDrive for $25 3 months ago. The prices are so low, so hardware prices can't be much of an issue.
Apple's probably intentionally differentiating by DVD-burning capability. And so when the Macs all go SuperDrive, there'll be another big differentiator, whatever it might be.

Mac tablet?
Mac software: iLife and iWork?
MacBook (Pro) redesigns??
iMac update??
Nehalem Mac Pros?
Mac mini update/redesign?
Multi-touch Mighty Mouse for Macs?
Multi-touch displays for Macs?
Mac OS X Snow Leopard preview?
Blu-ray support for Mac OS X 10.5.6 (although Kevin Rose later pulled that prediction)?

I suppose the mini-tablet would be more like an iDevice than a Mac, although things like split screen, iLife, and iWork that I'm hoping make it a bit more Mac-like. And generally Macworld is for new Macs, rather than updated Macs (or redesigned ones since 2003 besides the Intel revamp), which makes a tablet more likely.

That's true, but some long-ranging predictions have come true.

My Views:

Mac tablet? No
Mac software: iLife and iWork? Not yet
MacBook (Pro) redesigns?? October
iMac update?? No
Nehalem Mac Pros? Possibly
Mac mini update/redesign? Possibly
Multi-touch Mighty Mouse for Macs? No
Multi-touch displays for Macs? No
Mac OS X Snow Leopard preview? Yes
Blu-ray support for Mac OS X 10.5.6 (although Kevin Rose later pulled that prediction)? In 10.6, not in 10.5

Ok, since everyone else is throwing in their 2-cents worth of unconfirmed speculated predictions.....

iWork/iLife 09 - possibly

New Tablet - God I hope so :D

Macbook/Macbook pro - speed bumps possibly October, or everything on hold with redesign in January

MBAir - No doubt some type of news

ACD's - would not bank on it

Mini - Would hope so, but highly unlikely

iphone - almost a given.

And maybe a brief word on how Snow Leopard is coming.

But ah, January will seen like an eternity. It was no news in January as to why I bought my first mac in April (macbook). then also got sick of waiting and bought my wife the mini a month ago. So with my luck, both will probably be announced.....

But eitherway, my biggest hope is some sort of tablet reasonably priced even if stripped down a few features. I need one for seminary and work - and then can use my macbook for anything power intensive. Just keep inkwell (there was an old rumor of discontinuing it - if it is true, replace it with something better), handwritting recognition, and make it run 90% of apps. If not, then bring copy/cut and paste to the ipod touch, put in inkwell, and hand writing, and bring my iwork to the ipod tough and i will use that (just it would be dang small for my needs).....

Other note - my seminary classes start tonight - no tablet and no livescribe pulse pen on my mac. which means stuck using my work PC to store all my class information.

Predictions:

(1) Mac Mini becomes either the Mac Nano or Mac Air. New, thinner design, optional superdrive. Also can act as an Apple TV with a new version of Frontrow.

(2) New Cinema Displays - 20, 24, & 30. LED, with HDMI (not sure about Display Port). MUCH thinner, w/ built in HD iSight. Blu-Ray support.

(3) Mac Pro gets a Blu-Ray option and a spec bump.

(4) iLife '09

(5) iWork '09

(6) Snow Leopard ship date

I still am not expecting a Touch Mac yet, but the tablet could happen.

Also, I think this will be all Mac focused, aside from any iPhone/iPod integration that occurs at the expense of iLife & iWork.

Is it just me or does it seem really wierd to have 3 keynotes so close togeather? To me the October date doesnt feel to likely :(

I hope Steve eats and get a personal trainer. Why can't he just have the American diet? He could get that weight right up to normal in weeks.

He could be bench pressing Mac Pros on stage and the stock would soar.

They don't need to have a keynote for every update. Speed Bumps generally generate no press conference... it simply happens... normally with a short story and a banner on apple's website.

Thin Obsession

I am just wondering how long this obsession with thinness can be sustained. What is the limit when something is almost transparent, overheats in seconds and snaps if you accidentally sit on it ? I would like to see return to chunky, robust, solid & heavy. Something that shows real quality and is not made of wafers and minute components. This is however all wishfull thinking as i'm hoping the mbp has more differentiation across the range including a return to the 12" . The 17" would truly be a desktop replacement quad core with user replaceable hard drives and graphic cards. I wouldn't mind if it was at a premium it would just be so future-proof. Forget slim & light give me raw power and flexibility along with better cooling and longevity. Something that uses the same awesome design parameters as the mac pro for the 17", the 15" can be a regular laptop while the reinvention of the 12" powerbook would be a home run for apple.

Or possibilities...

I'd say even a dual-core Atom-based tablet would be able to run most apps besides the Pro Apps etc. (which are overkill anyway). The battery wouldn't need to be as big, which means smaller size and lighter weight.

Beware of predictions this far off. With nearly four months to go, almost anything could happen between now and then.

I'd bet Apple has already decided on what will be! Now IF we only knew what goodies will they be showing off--))) ;):):D:apple:

Regular notebooks for Q1 2009:
  • 13" MacBook: 13" 1280*720, 2.4 GHz, GMA IGPU, .84", $999
  • 14" MacBook: 14" 1366*768, 2.53 GHz, low-end GPU, .92", $1499
  • 16" MacBook Pro: 16" 1600*900, 2.67/2.93 GHz, midrange GPU, 1.0", $1999/$2499
  • 18" MacBook Pro: 18" 1920*1080, 2.0/2.27/2.53 GHz quad-core, upper-midrange GPU, Quadro option, 2 HD bays, 4 RAM slots, 1.5", ~$2999
Well it's all wishful thinking anyway. :D

How about also pointing out the rumors that proved to be inaccurate? How long have we been hearing about a tablet Mac?

Obviously, I'm interested in Apple-related rumors or I would not be here. I am really only pointing out that the further from ground zero they are made, the more likely they are likely to be guesswork, and also that rumors tend to build unrealistic expectations. I think there'd be far less disappointment expressed at each new product announcement if every rumor wasn't treated as though it was probably true.
