iwork 09

I'm disappointed that there's no update to the mini but I've just checked the info for iwork on the apple site and it certainly looks interesting. Looking forward to reading some in depth reviews.

And Apple doesn't do ads. I'm glad you have to pay for it if it keeps those stupid ads out of my way.

But both are in Beta. So you are paying to use a beta service... what is the fee anyway? I'm opposed to it on principle and will stick with my thumb drive or server space, but I'm curious.

It's free right now, while it is in beta. So NO you are NOT paying for beta service.

So then they are offering the same services (of course Apple's is better). While in Beta, both are free. After beta, iWork will be fee based and MS will be ad based. Got that one right?

I just couldn't sit though that whole keynote. It was too painfully boring.

Yep right.

Yep.. you bet that was right! Seems like Apple reserved a lot of stuff for Steve... but when is the question! WWDC or before?

iTunes over 3G. Great. Apple just made it easier for us to give them our money. Did anything good come today, besides more ways to give Apple cash?

as opposed to the times when they announce a new phone, desktop or laptop for you to give them money for.

yes it was mostly a disappointment. especially in regards to the imacs etc. but did you really expect anything big with Steve not being involved at all. with a big release, I at least would expect Steve to be a part of the gang. do the last demo or something.

i expected this to be a light day. so I wasn't shocked.

as for why they bothered, it's possible that they had paid their fees and couldn't get them back so even though not everything was ready for a big announcement they had to go ahead with what they had.

a month from now there could be a home campus announcement with one or two off the missing items. who knows.

No silent upgrade for the Mini in the stores...

I'm confused :(

not sure why anyone is confused. apple didn't give us what they didn't ever say they were going to give us at this time.

fact is most of those rumors were folks saying "I wish" and "wouldn't it be great" which then morphed into "I heard" and so on.

at no one did anyone at Apple hint such things were going to happen. The only hints about the mini are connected to Snow Leopard which we all knew wasn't close to release or we'd have seen some leaked copies of the devo out on the torrent sites etc. so by best guess at or near the time that SL comes out, something might happen with the mini.

I don't think Apple was obligated to release something interesting. That doesn't make what they did announce any less boring.

I was hoping for an iMac upgrade and news on Snow Leopard because I'm planning on updating. But given the lack of information on future developments my choices are a) buying a machine that already seriously lags its PC equivalents, b) wait until some unforeseen time in the future when a machine of unknown specifications is released for an unpredictable price, or c) say "screw it" and buy an upgraded PC.

If Vista wasn't such a POS option c) would be the clear winner at this point.

Before the fanbois crap their collective pants over this heresy I will probably go for b). But I suspect that we're going to see an increase in option c) for more and more potential customers. 2008 may well turn out to have been the high-water mark for Apple's share of market.

Is there black keys on the matte? If so they will look even worse now

there were black keys on the PB TI G4s and they looked fine, i suspect now that they will be backlit, the 17"with Antiglare (matte) and a silver bezel will look even better. wish i didnt think the 17" was way to big, or i would buy one as my birthday (36th) is friday and i was waiting to buy a replacement and give the macbook to the wife.

if this were added as an option on the 15' MBP's (the matte option with silver bezel) i would have ordered one in the blink of an eye. as much as i cant stand the integrated battery, i would have looked past it for the matte screen and silver bezel. (if that were integrated as well, that is.)

and i agree with the majority... most boring keynote i have ever watched.

ahhh, Apple... what the heck are you guys doing these days.

i have to think this will eventually trickle to the 15", but the question is when? i have the money to purchase NOW that is burning a hole in my pocket... if they wait too long i may find something else to spend it on.

Were there hidden messages displayed during the keynote?

The slide showed "Q4 2009" during "Magic Move". Can this be the period that Snow Leopard will be released?

This is more "I wish" thinking, it seems to me. Why would an updated mini, which would likely be updated only to current Macbook specs, need to be linked to Snow Leopard?

they will never have two retail OS packages. so of course even the mini will be linked to SL.

the better question is why were folks so sure the mini would be released at macworld because of a link to software that is not likely to be released or at least announced until WWDC.

isn't it more logical based on that link to assume that the mini would be upgraded merely before or by then and thus if WWDC goes by without the upgrade wonder WTF.

in fact, I wouldn't be shocked if the iMacs are on the same delay. perhaps so that they can be built using this new fancy smancy intel processor that is all the talk right now by apparently not quite out yet (i7 or something like that)

It's not "linked" to Snow Leopard in the sense that a mini release wouldn't need to wait for Snow Leopard.

Core i7 - the Clarksfield version, which the iMac will use, won't be ready until late 2009.
