no. i think people are upset because of a lack of mac mini update, which has been the same computer for TWO years.. Not about the rumored products that weren't announced.

Tese would include people like me that have a really nice display, really don't have a need for a Mac Pro, nor the desire to spend that time of cash, and are looking to spend money on an updated Desktop. The Mini does not cut it at all.

What's up with Apple?

Rather underwhelming altogether. Nice to see Apple have re-introduced the matte, cough, sorry "anti-glare" screen option on the 17" MBP, it just means to get a laptop with Firewire and a matte screen we have to fork out the best part of £2,000, ouch! Let's just hope Apple learnt something from the furore over omitting this option from the 15" MBP and do the the honourable thing by re-introducing this option on the 15" MBP and even on the MB, SOON! Was waiting for news of "push-notification" too.

I was starting to consider getting an upgraded Mac Mini plus a 3rd party matte display as a stop-gap until Apple see the light and offer a matte screen on the 15" MBP, but no movement in that direction either.

Ah well, will wait a bit longer to see if Apple finally offer something viable for me to replace my PowerBook with... and sort out the push thing to make an iPhone fully justifiable... It's so, so silly really, there must be a lot of people that want to spend a lot of cash on Apple products but can't because of silly limitations? What happened Apple? For years you were brilliant, now I'm not sure what to think.

Just my thoughts - Zaphodz

I was surfing back through Slashdot and saw the post for PC Mag going digital. There was a link to a Dvorak article about the tech companies and Jobs skipping Macworld because he did not have anything exciting to show.

That's what everyone thought. So if by "right" you mean he "simply stated the easiest guess" then yes, he was right.

I know I'm new here and understand this is a "rumor" site, but my god you guys were WAYYYYY off. I guess I too can start a website that spouts complete rubbish and false statements.

What kills me about reading discussions like this is that people get so worked up over completely fabricated RUMORS, then bemoan Apple when they don't release said rumored product.

And then there are those of us with extremely low expectations who are still disappointed. The fact is, this keynote rolled out less than any has since Jobs returned to Apple.

And for the record I'd be happy with a modest TWO hardware products getting updated. That would include speed bumps even.

And I wouldn't even care if apple updated anything at all except that Apple has gone months and months without updating most of their hardware lines. If apple didn't update at such a glacially slow pace, people wouldn't get so pissed when an event passes without updates.

There is plenty of information that points towards new iMacs and Mac minis in the pipeline and it was logical to assume Apple might announce them at Macworld.

Disappointed

No expected Mac Pro update (I am planning to buy one, so it is a longer wait)
No expected Mac mini update
No iPhone update / new hardware
No radically new products (e.g. the way the iPod was new, say a state of the art Apple-TV-BluRay-combo)
Nothing about 10.6

8 hours battery on a laptop that is the one people are least likely to use away from a plug. I find that weird. The only reason it has this battery life is because it has the room for the battery. That is not user-oriented. Steve must have been out for more than a year to let this get by him.

iPhoto '09 seems nice, but given it comes free with a new Mac, another wait until the new macs arrive.

DRM-free songs at a better coding is nice. I'm downloading at the moment.

No show / RDF elements whatsoever. Wasn't Wozniak supposed to have made an appearance?

I hate waiting, but it seems that is the only thing

Seeing as how this is the last Apple's last time at MacWorld and most likely the last Macworld. You would have thought there would have been some major "wow". This may be one of the most anti-climatic Macworld keynotes.

That's actually a good analogy of how most of us feel today, let down like a laptop with an 8 hour battery that's the least likekly to make it outside your home, the least portable has the highest battery, kind of sums up the moronicness that's been going on at apple over the past few months, it sums it up perfectly. That and the "it's all about the mac" opening announcement, when it was just about a couple of software suites and the 17" notebook, I can't fathom how it would have been had it NOT been about the mac....

BTW WHAT DID THOSE COVERED WITH WHITE BANNERS ACTUALLY CONTAIN:
A. "NO NEW MINI SUCKERS"
B. "MATTE OPTION FOR 3000! YUPI!!!"
C. "WILL SPEND 2 LONG BORING HOURS SHOWING YOU FACE RECOGNITION AND A BUNCH OF OTHER CRAP ON ILIFE."

This was primed to be a low-key conference. In the previous month Apple did everything but issue a press release stating "Don't expect much."

I guess IDG was right in one aspect, there was "small talk." It just wasn't "big." We read into that one too much, should have just taken it for its face value.

A slip up on Apples 'downloads' page shows iWork 09 in the top downloads list. However clicking on the link takes you to iWork 08. I'm guessing Apple are 'preparing' the site for the updates that are possibly coming today.

http://www.apple.com/downloads/

how can iwork 9 climb to the top if even isn't ready at time?
something is wrong.

also i'm not adept of apple rating their own paid software! phill says at a moment @ the keynote - "we already rated it (keynote)" so we have about 200 opinions by now and 5 stars."
something is very wrong.

also..i farted out LOUD at this macworld. WORST EVER.
The BEST product is the MACBOOK WHEEL presented yesterday.

Really? I remember everyone around here saying "Lame, who's going to buy that?"

Funny how last year's "disaster" is suddenly an amazing example of how Apple used to be great.

Check my posts - I NEVER said that. I am speaking of myself and no one else.

I think the Air is great and even better with the upgrade. My hats off to Apple for that. It was designed to be portable so I can deal with the internal battery that is sealed - but on a 17"? Not a chance. No way does it hit 8-hours even with the display turned down and no BT or WiFi. No way. 6-hours, maybe. Why no radical battery technology? Silver Zinc batteries have been used since Apollo - and used in everything form NASA mission to medical devices but instead we cram more batteries of different sizes into a 17" Pro level computer and remove the change to swap out batteries. Silly.

When I buy physical CDs off the internet (newburrycomics, usually), the physical discs are $9.99. Sure, if you go to the mall, you can buy a CD for $18.99.

You are correct with the individual songs though. Personally, I don't prefer individual songs, but rather complete albums. To each his own...

I could not agree more. I have spent many years and many, many thousands of dollars in speaker, more in a CD player and more in vinyl as well as all my expensive and sweet sounding interconnects - and I will not throw that down the dumper fir lossy, low-quality and compressed audio files.

And oh, listen to the entire album - that is what the artist intended and the flow of the record (or CD) is laid out in a manor that enhances the experience.

I just checked a handful and they were all more expensive than the download versions. Sure, sometimes you can get the CD the same or cheaper, but that's not always the case.

Who cares? Do you want a highly compressed and lossy audio track just to save $3? NOT ME! Please - MP3 and the ilk just plain bite when compared to the actual .WAV and that is even better than Apple Lossless - YES IT DOES! Do not believe me? You either have trouble hearing or your equipment is not even close to adequate for reasonable fidelity.

Nobody's forcing you to stay. Have fun on the Dell forums.

Why is it that when ever someone says something that you find offensive you tell them to get bent and head to another forum? Is he not entitled to his opinion like you are yours? Are his opinions and thoughts less valued than yours because he does not have Dei-God next to his name?

I think maybe you should go visit the courtesy forum and learn some respect for others.
