When you're reading a message in g-mail, on the right there are buttons for things like "print" and "new window."

You don't have "sponsored links" under there that often relate to subjects found within your e-mail?

You're right. When you open an e-mail, you do have links to the right side. I never noticed that. However, in Docs, still no adds, no matter what you open...at least not yet.

I'm sure iWork.com will be awesome. But, I don't think it justifies another monthly bill for a service I can get for free. And even if Google did decide to place adds in their Docs, I don't think I would mind. Advertising is everywhere; in papers, magazines, TV, before movies, even on Macrumors. If it they invaded Docs, I would just accept it as a fact of life.

I don't get it. He starts off by saying the keynote is "all about the mac". I was expecting a mac pro or a mac mini update at least.
Why does apple let it's hardware get so stale before an update? At least give the mac pro a semi-to-date video card option. Ugh.

That's such an interesting comment that went unnoticed, I guess all about the mac is a couple of image stabilizations tec for movie and face rec for photo, the 17" and that pretty much sums up the state of the mac for apple telephony, right? Did we forget any mac that could possibly fit into the "all about the mac" category...nah....mac's the 17" lappie.:eek:

Nobody's forcing you to stay. Have fun on the Dell forums.

No man, don't you worry I am staying, just because I am in the majority who feel that todays performance was lucklustre at best, utterly miserable at worst, doesn't mean you are going to doom me to dell-dom. I am here as a :apple: fan but not an :apple: sheep.

Nothing too exciting from the Sicknote, as expected, although I did think there would be a Mac Mini update.

Nice to see the music industry possibly coming to its senses though, ABOUT TIME :D

Will have to watch the stream when it's out, just to see how Phil did. Judging from the Engadget comments about falling asleep, not fantastic!

So... with iWork.com you can't even EDIT THE FILES ONLINE? This isn't even comparable to Google Docs! It's basically a file-sharing service where you can also leave comments.

I think he said "all about the Mac" meaning it was going to have little to do with the iPhone, which seems to be getting all Apple's attention lately.

Well, fun is over. Now going over to appshopper.com to look for something actually exciting.

What's amazing is the slap in the face Apple did to its fans, you know, those that think Jobs can do no wrong, by not showing up but after seeing the announcements, I have to say, it was the most boring keynote ever.

No FINAL CUT UPDATE, no LOGIC update, no mini update, (GPU is shameful and pathetic), no cool hardware, just software and itunes. Everything about Apple now is consumer based. They could care less about their fans or pro's - its all about the consumer now.

I mean really, did they have to cover the banners for iWork? Really? Cover the banners for iWork? OML LOL. That is freakin hilarious.

Sad sad day for Apple.

Wonder how long before Wall Street catches on?

I think you're overreacting here. *shocker*

With a few exceptions, like the mini, hardware is far beyond the capabilities of current software. Software across the board desperately needs to catch up, and I'm thrilled Apple is spending its time on Snow Leopard, and redesigning its proprietary programs for the web, which is the future, no doubt.

I know the key to Apple's success and every technological company is innovation, but they will release things only when they are good and ready (barring mobile me).

And you had to have been the only person on earth expecting a Final Cut update today. New Studios are traditionally released at NAB in April.

Well Apple can officially kiss my a$$, I've been waiting to see if they would release a 24" DVI-compatible monitor, but with no updates to the Cinema Display line, I'm going to look elsewhere for a new monitor.

Apple could have had my $900, but I'll gladly spend it elsewhere

now you can get two.

For reals. No wonder Jobs opted out of this and Apple out of future Macworlds. I guess we'll have to wait for a mid-to-late February Apple event to see new iMacs, Mini, etc.

Ah, okay. Just checking. Your post reeked of angry butthurt PC lover. Your tone gave the impression that you were heavily insulting the mac platform as a whole for using slower CPUs and "slow" FSBs (even though the OS plays a key role in how fast a system is... XP vs. Vista all over again).

Just so you know though, the Gigahertz war ended years ago. FSB speed and processor clock rates != performance. There is so much more to it, and that's where Apple catches up and (in some cases) beats the competition.

a) DVI will be around for a long time.
b) The video card in the Mac Pro can be upgraded. Eventually there should be one with display port.
c) It's not hard to find a monitor just as good or better than Apple's monitors. (and they'll be cheaper too.)
d) The current Mac Pro will last you for years as it is. (Assuming no repeats of the outdated video card debacle.)

Definitely a good point (d). My current Mac Pro (late 2006) still feels fast as all hell. Heck, if someone is looking for a less expensive Mac Pro, buying a used unit may be the answer. Being a desktop, it is less likely to have hidden problems than a laptop (which may have been dropped, etc.) and they have absolutely incredible longevity and upgradeability.

I will probably still be using my current Mac Pro in 2011 at this rate. Wonderful, wonderful machine.

People tend to eat up these type of Apple products, the ones that are months behind competitor's products and are below the technological industry standard (see: no MMS, no blue-ray, no bluetooth or GPS on iPhone, the list is endless), saying that they are innovative and what not. Don't worry, fanbois and the ignorant will still gobble this stuff up like flies on crap. Have faith.

so who in the right mind needs 8 hrs battery life on a 17-inch notebook? Wouldn't 8 hours battery life on the Air or Macbook or 15-inch Macbook Pro be more appropriate? Where's the logic in this?

This is really a badly worded statement considering the 17" notebook that has 8 hrs of battery life is a MacBook Pro

I wonder how is the Heat on the 17"

hope it's cool still.

I don't recall it ever having heat problems before but you never know now with the new design.

Was Dvorak correct?

I was surfing back through Slashdot and saw the post for PC Mag going digital. There was a link to a Dvorak article about the tech companies and Jobs skipping Macworld because he did not have anything exciting to show.

What kills me about reading discussions like this is that people get so worked up over completely fabricated RUMORS, then bemoan Apple when they don't release said rumored product.

There are people angry that Apple did not announce the iPhone nano. It's a completely fabricated product by forum types.

By reading posts by people, Apple should have released about 20 new products. They aren't a big enough company to update every single product in their line, WHILE coming out with a host of brand new products as well.

Whatever, it certainly was not a blow-me-away keynote, but really...what exactly do people expect?

no. i think people are upset because of a lack of mac mini update, which has been the same computer for TWO years.. Not about the rumored products that weren't announced.

Macworld very disappointing

Like many others was hoping for bigger news. While I am quite happy with the changes to iTunes DRM free music, and downloading over 3G/EDGE is a big plus, not the "WOW" news we hoped for. I am glad there was no new iPhone or iPhone Nano announced, as the 3G just came out 6 months ago, but I was hoping for at least a 2.3 software to include some wanted features such as copy/paste, or TBT GPS. Oh well....
