Thanks everyone! I’m holding off for now on ordering due to battery drain and now this too. Feels like a beta test unfortunately.
Yeah, I think the fix is to remove both sources of power. The iPad and the MK’s USB-C connector.Yep, when the mouse disappears I removed the iPad from the MK, removed the power, waited about 10 seconds, up the iPad back on the MK, connect the power. The pointer returned before I connected the power again but bottom line to get it back was likely something with the power. Not sure. If it happens again I will try a few other things to see what happens.
Happened again today.
Trigger: iPad left for a few hours in open MK with power connected to MK.
Fix: Remove iPad from MK. Remove power from MK. Wait 10 seconds. Reconnect everything.
I’ll see if I can reliably reproduce this.
This supports my rule that it pays to wait until the 2nd generation of Apple products before buying.Ugh, coupled with the easy to mark finish and reports of pitted or bubbled surfaces - I'm adding this the list of reasons to not buy the iPad Pro and AMK. 😑
True, but material wise it doesn't look like Apple have changed anything from the previous ipad keyboards as these also appear to mark and de-bond easily. Equally the ipad pro gen 4 wasn't strengthened internally from gen 3, so are Apple sticking with form over function? This supports my rule that it pays to wait until the 2nd generation of Apple products before buying.
That said, it's gonna be pretty hard for me to wait on that mini-LED iPad Pro...
Perhaps. It doesn’t happen that often but it has happened to me.This sounds like a software bug. I’ve not experienced any issues with mine so far, but I imagine Apple addresses this. This is not completely out of the norm for a new piece of hardware.
Had the same problem today - Shutdown/Restart iPad did not fix it. Took it to Genius Bar - seems this is a known issue. So my trackpad just stopped working. I restarted my iPad, disconnected and reconnetted and it still won‘t work. I don’t even see the cursor anymore. Any tips or ideas on how to fix before I reach out to apple support?

Solution is to Hard Restart the iPad. Press volume up, Volume Down and then Hold the Power button till it switches off.
On restarting it works again. I suspect they will fix this in a future iOS release...
I just bought a new 11 inch (2018) a few weeks back...along with the magic keyboard and Pencil 2. I waited until the last day before my eligibility ran out to buy apple care +. I’ve owned multiple iPads in the past and have never bought Apple Care for any...but with such an expensive keyboard case...and it being a Gen 1 product...decided to this time since all 3 products bought will be covered.Interesting, but a hard reset did not fix my issue. I did several hard resets and the trackpad was still unresponsive. I unplugged the power, undock and, redocked several times and it eventually started working again.
FWIW I’ve only had this trackpad issue come up once.

I have not had the issue in a while if that helps anything. Don't know why, the power stays connected and I take it off and on several times per day. I did not want to get in the habit of disconnecting power all the time. This worked for me! I suppose it’s some hardware software combination issue. I tend to leave the ipad connected to power on my desk when its connected to the MK. Hopefully it’ll be resolved in the next software update.
