I think as has been mentioned you need to remove both the ipad and the power if it's plugged into the keyboard - I was trying to put the ipad on and off and the cursor just wouldn't appear - so removed the power and then it came back.

I had the same issue and I also found that it is after I left my iPad docked in a plugged Magic Keyboard.

After unplugging the charger from the keyboard and removing the iPad, and then putting the iPad back to the keyboard, the cursor reappeared.

Same just happened to me. The only thing that fixed it was to unplug the charge lead and restart the iPad. Placed it on the dock with the charge lead and it works .. at the moment
This works - if done in exactly that order. Annoying and time consuming.

Happened again today.

Trigger: iPad left for a few hours in open MK with power connected to MK.

Fix: Remove iPad from MK. Remove power from MK. Wait 10 seconds. Reconnect everything.

I’ll see if I can reliably reproduce this.

This worked for me!

This does not look good! Hopefully everyone here is reporting this to Apple. I haven’t had the issue yet, but now I will be looking for it.

Happening to me as well. I did the trick above with removing the iPad from the MK, unplug the power for 10 seconds, reply it in and reconnect the iPad to the MK. Cursor is now back.
APPLE, please correct this as I find myself getting ready to put this back in the box.

Had the same issue. Resolved by unplugging USB-C cable from Magic Keyboard port, taking iPad off, putting it back on.

I hope all of you have taken the time to file a bug report.

Why? Best you can hope for most people is that they’ve used Apple Support.

If this was iOS 14 related then perhaps so, but from what I’m reading, it isn’t. In fact the vast majority of posts here predate the developer beta.

Even though this isn’t iOS 14 related, I believe it is important to let Apple officially know about this bug. Many times, some forum members will not report, while hoping or expecting others will and thus, the bug gets fixed.

Unsure just how you expect normal folk to report bugs. Like I say I get them reaching out to support for help, but filling bugs?

Most people won’t have any ability defined to file a bug report- and for good reason I might add.

On a forum filled with geeks and tech nerds, I like to think many could file a report if they were encouraged. :D When it comes to tech, I admit I am ever so slightly biased.

Many folk here are users who come for help. Since filing a bug report requires having first enabled a developer profile, really not sure how most are going to do that.

Bug reporting on Apple is for developers only, and not end users.

I’m all for a good bug report. Sadly at work even our “trained” users invariably file bugs like “Reporting is broken. Please fix.” 🥴🤔🙄

Had the same problem, and this worked for me! Thanks! It's quite likely a hardware firmware issue that trips the OS?

It happened this morning for the first time in ages after the iPad wasn’t in the MK overnight.

The above fix didn’t work for me - I had to power cycle the iPad and the case a few times.

Hi, I'm having the same issue here: 2020 iPad Pro 11" and Magic Keyboard, I bought both two on the Apple Store website just two months ago.

Trackpad not working here, I don't even see the cursor on the screen. Tried to reset the iPad and clean the Smart Connector, but didn't work.

Keyboard works OK, no issue.

I'm on iPadOS 13.6.

EDIT: wow, now it's working, what I did was remove the USB-C cable from the Magic Keyboard's port and connect it right on the iPad's port, then I removed the iPad from the Magic Keyboard and then put it back.

My magic keyboard just stopped working now - after using it for 30 mins fine. No idea why.

it comes up saying accessory not supported on the iPad. I’ve hard reset the iPad and same error.

Wierd. Anyone else have similar experience?

A few other people have. try disconnecting completely from the outlet and the Magic Keyboard, and then plug back in. It should work.

So my trackpad just stopped working. I restarted my iPad, disconnected and reconnetted and it still won‘t work. I don’t even see the cursor anymore. Any tips or ideas on how to fix before I reach out to apple support?

Thanks
I noticed it stopped working when i took my ipad off the dock and left the charger on.(2 hours or so) Once i took the charger off (unplugged it from the keyboard) it started working, almost like it got over heated or over powered. see if that works

I just had this happen for the first time in months - unplugging USB-C cable from the Keyboard, unseating and then re-seating the iPad Pro fixed it.
Am using a HyperJuice GAN charger with another USB-C cable, maybe this had something to do with it.

Just bought a MK and Pencil to go with my iPad. Worked fine til I installed iPadOS 14 When it rebooted the pointer didn’t work. Disconnecting the iPad and power then reattaching fixed it. Thanks everyone!!!

Just a heads up, I had this problem.

I disconnected the charging cable from the iPad Pro 2018, and then I restarted and my cursor was back. Then I plugged the USB charging cable back in.

Before that only the keyboard would work, not the trackpad.

So FYI, I hope it helps somebody.
