That new mouse if kinda cute, but I would guess the lag still be there since it's BT! I'm gonna stick with my wireless Razr mouse which has no lag at all

Does anyone know any tech specs of the Magic Mouse? There isn't anything on the Apple website. If it's a laser mouse, I might even get one. The Mighty Mouse's optical tracking is among the worst I've experienced (nevermind the standard apple acceleration curve) and usually requires a mouse pad.

The Magic Mouse does use laser tracking technology. Not that hard to find this info on Apple's pages, by the way... ;)

Anyone know when Best Buy will get the magic mouse? I returned my mighty mouse today for store credit and they don't have the magic mouse yet.

Thanks. Can't believe how I missed that. I was looking for tech specs and maybe the page was still loading when I searched "laser" and "tracking" with the page search function. It doesn't look like it has a built-in battery (Des it take 2 AAA batteries?) which is great because I hate having a docking station and power brick for just a mouse. I'm seriously considering this thing, this microsoft bluetooth mouse has been driving me nuts, you need to move it around right after your reboot the mac, otherwise, it will take 2 minutes of moving to get it recognized. :D

2 x AA. I wholeheartedly recommend Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries. I'm using them with my Mighty Mouse. They come pre-charged, have very low self-discharge, allow up to 1000 charge cycles and have favorable discharge characteristics resulting in greater available capacity. :)

EDIT: Aaaand, they look kind of nice.

whats blu-ray support?

10.6.2 will be a very minor update, probably fix a few bugs here and there but nothing overtly noticable...not really news in my opinion. the magic mouse is a nice touch in my opinion...go apple!

I don't think it looks uncomfortable to hold, as I only hold a mouse with the tips of my fingers anyway, but does it have a middle click, eg mouse wheel click? If not I don't want it. And does it have side buttons? Not required, but a nice feature.

I agree, middle button and side button functions seem to be missing, which will be a serious problem.

I stopped at the Apple store today to try it out. Sure enough, no middle or side buttons, so no quick way to access widgets or Expose. Nothing in preferences to fix it either. I asked the sales guy and he didn't know, but went to ask a tech. The sales guy said the tech says there are a lot more mouse button options in the preferences coming in 10.6.2, but he (sales guy) didn't know yet if there were options for addressing the middle and side button issues. Seems like there ought to be some way to use the multi-touch to fix that, but I'll believe it when I see it. Definitely this mouse is not acceptable for use with the currently available mouse button preferences.

The scrolling did seem to work well, but they weren't very imaginative with the multi touch capability. For instance, you still have to hold the control key on the keyboard to zoom with the mouse. I would have thought they would use the pinch / squeeze zooming tricks of the iphone and stuff like that. I would have thought it would be able to operate in a touch pad mode for controlling the pointer too. Scrolling was not a noticeable improvement over the scroll ball on the current Mighty Mouse.

It seemed very uncomfortable to hold. It's possible that I'm just too tall to comfortably hold a mouse at the low counter height at the local Apple store, but whatever the reason my wrist was hurting badly within just a few seconds.

We'll see what happens in 10.6.2, but without some significant upgrades this could be a very bad mouse. I'd like a chance to try it in a friendlier setting too, but if the wrist pain issue is not a function of the store set up, this could very well be the worst mouse Apple has ever made. Too bad, it's an innovative concept that may well be critically flawed in execution.

So, looking at the demo video, the 'Magic' mouse is still unusable for serious applications like Maya, where you need to click simultaneous combinations of left and right, left and middle, right and middle etc.

I'll stick to my Razer Diamondback thanks very much.

I don't know about Maya, but when I tried the Magic Mouse today, it definitely had too few buttons to be considered an improvement. It seems odd that it is so limited too given that the entire top is a multi touch surface. It seems like it should be easy to set up up for different functions when clicking with 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 fingers or when clicking on the left, right, top, or bottom or for various combinations, which should give it a huge number of click function options.

Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Please fix the expose bug and the eSATA expresscard kernel panics.

I don't want a magic mouse--it looks too small and uncomfortable to hold.

Did you try updating your eSata express card driver? Silicon images released new ones about 2 weeks ago and they work flawless from what I can tell. If you have a Rosewill card they have updated drivers for it.
