If this mouse works in Windows as "well" as the laptop trackpads do, then I guess that means this mouse won't work in Windows...???

Good question, though I would have hoped Apple would include a BootCamp driver for it, otherwise it'll be "Look, you can even run Windows on your new iMac, except you'll have to buy another mouse first".

Apple has just confirmed your statement.

Just heard rumors from apple store staff that 10.6.2 should be ready by this friday..

It's probably true then. I'm sure one of them overheard Steve Jobs say that or something. I spent 10 minutes on the phone yesterday an hour after the store came online asking whether they had any Magic Mice in stock and he had never heard of it.

My concern is whether you have to first lift your finger to click, or if you can just apply pressure. With my current traditional mouse, I have my first two fingers resting on the buttons when I use it, and just have to push the button to click. Having to first lift your finger every time you want to click may not sound like a big thing, but it's a common cause of RSI.

You just click, like the current mouse. When you use the right (secondary) click, you lift your index finger and click with your middle finger on the right side. For most people, this is a natural movement. I've tried keeping my index finger planted while pressing with my middle, and it's actually uncomfortable.

For some people, it doesn't matter - they're comfortable keeping both fingers down. In that case, the MM isn't their mouse.

I really hope the Magic Mouse can be updated via firmware to recognise more gestures, Expose is a must on a mouse for me.

I think most people will have to go into an Apple store and try one out as it could either work near flawlessly (as the multitouch trackpads do for me) or really really badly (like the Mighty Mouse, sorry Apple Mouse).

I just wish there were more options, if one finger down is scrolling, and two fingers left-right is backwards and forwards, why can't we have two fingers up and down for expose?

Hopefully this update will fix the trackpad in 64bit mode...

Well I hope this update addresses a prominent issue that I haven't seen mentioned in any forums; the fact that on a MacBook Pro in 64bit mode, the finger gestures are inoperable. All my other software seems to work, even Parallels Desktop, which was the reason Apple gave for not making Snow Leopard boot automatically in 64bit mode. However all trackpad finger gestures are gone. Hopefully this new update will fix it.

The video on the Apple site answers several of these questions. Take the couple of minutes it takes to post here and go read/watch them. Exposé is not shown as an option in the mouse preferences shown in the video. That means, at least at the time of the filming of the video, it is/was not available (I'm with those who want this as it is a part of my workflow too). Do note that the mouse preferences are separate from the keyboard preferences in the video. Scrolling is possible, and at 360°, as well as clicking, secondary clicking, zooming, and moving back forward through pictures or pages. Tertiary buttons are gone. It requires a Bluetooth-enabled Mac computer, Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0, and Existing keyboard and mouse for setup.

So, looking at the demo video, the 'Magic' mouse is still unusable for serious applications like Maya, where you need to click simultaneous combinations of left and right, left and middle, right and middle etc.

I'll stick to my Razer Diamondback thanks very much.

Thursday at 11:00 Cupertino Time. There is going to be a media event. Let the tablet rumors begin.
Is this media event confirmed? Or are you messing with us? I don't think we'll see a tablet.

Edit:just went through buyers guide, Mac Pro is the only "buy only if you need" and with quad coming to the iMac ....??? /Edit

I'm sick of my web browsers crashing when I try to upload images. This isn't limited to Safari by the way. Every single browser. Quite annoying. Let's hope this 10.6.2 update fixes all that and more. :)

thought it was my wife. obviously she isn't the only one with this issue.

I think it's safe to assume that .2 will be out within the next two weeks. From what I read in previous threads and release notes, there was only one issue that was left to be corrected.

When I heard of this mouse yesterday before seeing the details I thought:

Wow I should have thought of that. This mouse can do, a, b, c, d, etc..

In actuality while still a cool product it can't do 25% of what I was expecting it to be able to do.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

I think that the update is just around the corner.

No, it isn't--I find it much easier to leave both my fingers resting on the mouse when I click. But...

For some people, it doesn't matter - they're comfortable keeping both fingers down. In that case, the MM isn't their mouse.

...I guess that's why you mentioned this. :D Still, I could probably get used to it (I have used a Mighty Mouse before and it took some getting used to), but I really wish the new Magic Mouse had the multifinger swipes for Expose. Hopefully they can do that with a software update; otherwise, I'll stick with my 5-button mouse. I live for Expose. :D

I probably did. I'm never good at early mornings. However, won't 10.6.2 bring the updated 'Mouse' preference pane which would be required to adjust settings etc. on the new mouse?

Judging by Apple's past releases of this kind, the updated preference pane is almost certainly also included in the Wireless Mouse Software Update.

I don't actually doubt a near-future 10.6.2 release, but it doesn't seem to be strictly necessary at all for the Magic Mouse.

There is a Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0, so you don't need 10.6.2 to make it work...

eSata

+1 hoping for the kernel panics with eSata being resolved with this update coming friday, it's unusable now and i need this drive to work
