That’s great, I’ll still take my 10,000Mah battery pack with USB-C power delivery to get that 50% charge in 30 minutes. For me there’s never been a time where charging to 50% above what I had already drained the phone with that day didn’t get me until the end of that day.

That's hilarious... I kept the battery pack attached to my phone all last night and it didn't update. I read this article, attached the battery pack to my laptop via lightning and it updated in 3 minutes ? Thanks for the heads up, MacRumors!

Wow! This is huge. Was considering returning but I may rethink that now.

Also PSA for those who are unaware, the trick of plugging into a Mac to force an update also works for updating the firmware on the MagSafe Charger and MagSafe Duo.

I plugged the MagSafe into my Mac whilst it was attached to the phone. 10 mins, no firmware update.

Removed the battery pack from the phone, plugged back in again, attached to the phone 1 min later and it had updated. So I think the battery pack needs to be removed from the phone first.
More members need to read your post first before commenting. It’s perfectly accurate.

Thank you. iPad trick worked.
I was two revisions behind. Tried everything and nothing worked. Was about to return it.

I don’t understand the hate that this Apple product gets. I have one and use it all the time when I am traveling for work and I think it works very well. Increased charging speed is even better.
Love mine, as well. I use it frequently and find it very convenient. Sadly, much of the hate is theater. Isn’t it interesting how so much of the traffic on here is Apple-hating? Oh well. Love my MagSafe battery!

Yep.. a certain faction loves to complain, no matter what Apple does. I acknowledge all is not perfect in "Apple World" but these same people are just trolls.

Most all the pros who test wireless charging products for Apple say heat is a big issue and constant use of wireless charging pads will degrade the iPhone much faster than charging with a traditional USB or lightening cable."You get what you pay for." Want to take the easy route?; there's a price!
If the battery needs replacing, I will have Apple replace the battery after 3 years or so. A lot of the complaint chatter seems to come from people who will upgrade every year. From a practically standpoint, wireless works better for me, especially the Battery Pack which allows me to charge the phone in pocket while getting things done during my day, instead of having to leave the phone plugged in.

Just tested this. My MagSafe battery was completely useless before, unable to charge my device at all. In fact, even on airplane mode with low brightness it would still discharge on downloaded videos.

Now? Charges when idle, holds charge when using. It is premature, but this update might have made this battery useful for me! Out of the drawer it comes.

How come mine says EVT2? Does yours say that too?

Most all the pros and most all people reading this upgrade iPhone yearly so it doesn’t matter…

Here is how you manually update the firmware:

All you need to do is to connect the MagSafe Battery Pack to your Mac via USB-C to Lightning cable and leave it connected for a few minutes. Make sure you are on the latest macOS, it will automatically update the firmware. (Also works with iPhone and iPad, but you won't be able to easily check for progress as on Mac.)

If you are interested, you can open the console and filter "updater", you will see a few processes in the background checking and updating the firmware for your MagSafe Battery Pack.

You can also check look for the firmware update file located at "/System/Library/AssetsV2/com_apple_MobileAsset_UARP_A2384/"

Seems a bit odd that can’t explicitly update the firmware on the device it’s designed to work with. What are you supposed to do if you don’t have a Mac or iPad…firmly tape it to the back of your iPhone for a week and hope for the best?
Yes. Just like with airpods.

About the update: pretty awesome. I love my battery pack, I‘ve it in my backpack as backup battery for short trips. Does it beat an Anker battery with 20000mah? Nah. But it‘s great for what it is, an easy and convenient way to give you some extra charge when you used a lot of gps while walking or used your camera so often that the battery is dying mid-day. ?

Sure. I don’t doubt it’s a good bit of kit. Just winds me sometimes the way Apple goes about things. Not entirely unlike there being no option anywhere on any of their devices or apps to manually force an iCloud refresh. Not a problem in the halcyon days when things mostly really did “just work” but nowadays it’s becoming a chore.
