Actually, it's not at all overpriced.

You can't compare the price with the average Qi charger, because there's also a charger for the apple watch included.

Getting an integrated apple watch charger costs a lot. Most cheap options require a separate apple watch charging cable.

I've been looking at different alternatives for months. And the prices of these kind of products are most of the times around 150 €, sometimes more, sometimes less.

If you don't need an integrated apple watch charger, just skip the product. But the product itself looks quite good and is not overpriced.

They could have priced it at £999 and you would get some people defending the pricing. Ok that's a slight exaggeration but not that much more ridiculous than some of the comments from those attempting to justify their purchase of this.

It's £129 here in the uk, plus the £19 for the plug. So £149, that's $194. My kids keep asking me what I want for xmas, they've suggested some apple type accessories and I've told them not to waste their hard earned cash on them.

Looks very well made, and if Magsafe could charge non iP12 devices to current Qi standards then I'd be tempted

Funny how the video doesn't show them picking up the iPhone from the charging mat because if its now a two handed operation it kind of defeats the object of being convenient. Also I guess we still have a purchase a separate 20W charging brick because of the environment?

Again, the single MagSafe charger is £39 plus you need the 20W power brick at £20 so that's nearly £60. Add to that the Apple charging dock at £75. Thats Apple's reasoning I guess. I am not defending the price but you are effectively getting one unit for virtually the same cost as you would pay for two.

I'm interested in buying this but I'm still using an iPhone XS Max will I get the super slow charging like on the regular Magsafe? Or was that an issue that was overblown?

Interesting preview video on homepage - shows the guy picking up phone from charger - he obviously uses his fingers to "hold" the duo down when taking the phone off but looks like it is fairly painless. Pretty sure that if he didn't the duo would lift up - as I said in an earlier post - its the way you're holding it that's wrong!.

Very happy with my $14 wireless chargers I bought on Amazon years ago. Have had zero problems.

Sexy. But not $130 sexy IMHO.

Not as pretty, and it doesn't fold - but here's one for 20€. Bring your own watch charger.

Do you own one? I do, because pre-pandemic I travelled a lot and didn't want separate charging cables to keep track of and carry. As you point out, add $30 for the watch charger, and I could never really get it to fit well inside the case. The case itself was cheap thin plastic and it came apart easily. I ultimately had to glue it shut. And because its relatively big, and cheap, I had to be be careful when I packed it for fear it would break.

Apple's design looks more compact, more rugged, I am definitely going to look at it when it comes out to replace the Anker. I wouldn't keep on by my bed or desk for regular use, thats what I have the Nomad Base Station for. Downside of the Nomad is it has the old style specialized charger. Hate that. Much prefer USB.

The point is, the right tool for the right job. For those that value compact and sturdy when traveling the Apple Duo charger fits the bill. Yep it is expensive. Quality costs.

I am not sure why so many seem to be personally offended by the cost, some even go so far to suggest those of us that will buy it are part of a problem enabling Apple. Whatever. Going to say it again, Quality costs. The Anker is not quality (I do own a lot of their stuff, most of it IS quality). The duo charger is.

As for not having a charging brick? Great. I carry one already. Don't need it. Don't want it.

Oh my gosh this overpriced, ugly looking product is really manifesting what Apple thinks about their customers ("they will buy anything at any price with our logo slapped on it"). So many cheap alternatives out there, really can't see anyone buying it (except the fan boys of course) and if you wanna spend a lot of money why not investing it in something good looking like nomad chargers?

I ordered the Anker pretty much right after I posted that link, but I haven't opened it yet because the S6 watch it's going to charge is sitting in my closet, boxed, waiting for December 24. ;)

My other caveat is that I'm probably going to sit out the 2020 iPhones... I have no hate for them at all - the 12 Pro Max on an IUP is not even a monthly cost I would notice. But my XS Max is just too good. So, I wouldn't get any of the 15w glory anyway.

Your comments echo some of the negative reviews I saw on Amazon, so I mostly knew the pitfalls going in. For all I know I may end up getting the Apple version someday, but given the $100 delta I'll try the Anker out first.

The same nomad chargers that cost the same or more?

Ahh the troll returns. I have a Nomad charger! Guess what? It was very expensive and it is absolute garbage. It was poorly designed and the Apple Watch slips right off the charger, and it's impossible to position an iPhone correctly to get it to charge. After a few weeks of frustration my wife's nearly ended up in the garbage because she was tired of waking up to dead devices.

IIRC, that Nomad POS cost me $139. Your move.

If 15w from the 20w charger is going to the phone there is only 5w less overhead going to the watch. Speed is being shortchanged on this expensive charger. Pointed out by Gruber.

It almost seems like a remnant of Jony Ives design, when he was trying to make the Watch charger seem like jewelry store display case pad. I just do not understand how they can be nailing the iPhone and iPad designs with such crisp, industrial and modern looks, then make things like this charger that has ZERO elements of these other successful products. I mean, even the new MagSafe charging puck looks better than the Duo, albeit the MagSafe puck seems like a half-finished item.

Off topic, I think the HomePod and HomePod mini are also carryovers that need updating with more crisp-edged designs. I know it may be my own design ethic, but I much more prefer products with sharp edges, over soft rounded things like the HomePods.

Ok I knew where I saw this same design and material in an Apple product - the iPad Keyboard!

I'm waiting for the Belkin 3-in-1 Wireless Magsafe Charger. It's $20 more but includes a 40w power supply.

Yeah - that looks really nice. I wish they would release it already.

If I was traveling like normal, the Apple one would be good though too.
