Let me preface this by saying that I keep my phones for around 12-13 months on average. I sold my XS Max with 99% battery health, 11 Pro Max with 95% battery health, 12 base model with 93% health (6 months of its life was with MagSafe). My iPhone 13, which is in its 9th month is already at 90% battery health and I charge it almost exclusively with Apple's MagSafe Duo charger.

The battery life on the 13 Pro has noticeably degraded from when it was new, much more so than I have experienced with my previous iPhones. This phone went from basically being impossible to kill within a day with my usage to needing a charge well before the day's end.

Just curious, how do you know it is MagSafe that did it? It couldn’t be a bad battery or other issue?

I think we'll see more of these stories with iPhone 12 nearly two years old. We all enjoy the convenience of wireless and fast charging, but the thermal side hasn't been managed. MagSafe Battery Pack users will probably face a worse outcome as the phone is more insulated and they are free to use high power apps while charging.

At 90%, your battery shouldn't be discharging that fast. There shouldn't be any noticeable difference in battery life.

I've had my 13 Pro since launch day last year - almost exactly a year. I charge it every night with the MagSafe charger on my nighstand, with the phone in a case - it's hardly ever been charged any other way. My battery is still at 95% health. I like the convenience of MagSafe charging and I'll continue to use it. If I need to replace the battery at some point, so be it. If it's within 2 years, AC+ will take care of it; if not, it costs me $69 for a brand new battery.

So you don't really know its Mag-safe. Could be a faulty battery.

AppleCare +?? Might be warranty. If you didn’t purchase AppleCare then it still could be under warranty, but you’ll have to prove that or have Apple run a diagnostic check on your iPhone. But you really should buy AppleCare for your products, it’s only $9 a month. $14 a month with theft and loss which is what I have. If you don’t want AppleCare then you’ll be paying more for your repairs out of pocket..

I feel like my 13 Pro runs very hot, especially doing beta all summer. I charge via MagSafe, and I’m down to 92% health too. Hoping the “thermal improvements” on the 14 Pro help.

12 PM and at 84%. Using MagSafe Duo for more than a year. Not why it drained to fast. Still the Duo and wondering if it will be compatible with the AW Ultra…

get the battery replaced. its 69 bucks
This so much!

People stress about their battery. You have people watching their battery percentage and making routines to keep their phones at a certain level of charge just to eke out this health percentage number.

You’re spending $1000 on a phone or maybe a little less depending on the model. Is it really worth saving $69 over a two-year period to change your usage habits? If you’re buying a MagSafe puck you’ve already spent at least $39 for the convenience of not having to plug your phone in. I have used the Apple MagSafe puck about 1/5th the time and a regular plug mostly. After a year it’s still at 100% but even if it wasn’t I don’t care. It’s not worth me doing anything special. I can see if we were in some sort of apocalyptic situation where batteries weren’t available so you needed to make your phone last for ten years then completely understandable.

I only charge via MagSafe. My launch day iPhone is at 92% health with optimized charging enabled.

This is in line with my expectations of calendar aging of lithium ion batteries.

MagSafe and wireless charging is the best thing that ever happened. Ofcourse it’s not as efficient, but it will improve in the years to come.

I don’t need cables for my hobbies and whatnot, I’m just an average joe, enjoying my music wireless, charging wireless and paying wire(card)less.

It all will me better in the foreseeable future, as so, that we don’t need power banks and whatnot. Then they will find new ways to charge and use our stuff and the circle starts again

I have a 13 Pro Max that I’ve had since launch day and I’ve been using MagSafe almost exclusively and wireless charging (the basic qi kind) at night if my battery is particularly low. Only occasionally using my macs usb c charger if I need a faster charge such as leaving soon for the gym. Otherwise I exclusively use MagSafe in my car. I charge my phone at home MAYBE once a week. Usually on the weekend. I’ve got 95% battery health and I’m a heavy user.

There is no way MagSafe has impacted my battery health in any meaningful way. I suspect you’re progressively using your phone more as your battery health, by your own admission, has degraded with each model causing more battery cycles eating away at battery health. When I worked at a phone repair company people came in for battery replacements around the 80-85% mark and claimed they only just started to notice degraded battery life around that point. This leads me to believe that your becoming more sensitive to it due to excessive usage. Otherwise if you were an average user you wouldn’t notice it for a good while longer. I recognize these are assumptions but it sounds to me like you need to get off your phone and live in the real world more.

Now, wireless charging has always generated more heat than a 5w charger (or 12w for that matter) and heat does degrade battery life. However, charging over usb c at the max speed (27w these days?) will do the exact same.

Here’s my recommendation. Use the 5w charger if you want your battery to last the longest and use your phone less. You’ll be amazed at what those two together can do.

You can stop trolling now ❤️

Questions: What power adapter (5-120w) did you use and does the iPhone feels hot when charging?
The Apple website recommends 20W charger for the MagSafe charger, I have a 12W charger, do I need to get a new one. Am I right in thinking that a higher wattage charger will degrade the battery more quickly?

My iphone X is down to 82% and I only use QI charging. Not sure if that is good or bad for a 5 year old phone, but I do like not using cables.
