I have given up with holders, used to use Brodit holders, the magsafe version doesn't suit where it has to go in my new vehicle, hate the windscreen and vent mounts.
Have wireless CarPlay so just use the cup holder now lol.

Did you ever show a picture? I am looking for which Brodit mount you are using.
I don't think I did, I have just had a quick look through my Photos library, and this is the only photo I have of it - where I had to take a drill to it to modify it to fit the bracket for the ESR mount.

It is the specific Brodit mount for my vehicle (VW Transporter).

Thanks! I am looking at doing something similar, but finding a Brodit for my vehicle has been tough (Infiniti QX80)

I'm currently using this as the one in my car barely charges it makes the phone hot when I'm using Carplay with maps and youtube. I did swap the head out as I wanted a shorter cable.

As above I am very pleased with this one. In fact I now have two them.

I use it with 13 Pro Max in Apple leather MagSafe case. Rock solid. You obviously don't need to connect a charging lead to it.

You say "leather-Silicon" cases...they need to have the magnets in them, which Apple ones and a few third party do. Many third party ones mention "MagSafe compatible", by which they mean you can charge through them but they are not secure for car mount use.

Mike, when you replied , did you see that the vents or picture are circular? I got the recommended product, but everytime i turn with the car left or right, the vent and the phone make also a turn so impractical. Magnet is good with apple case, but rest is not stable

I am having trouble understanding this. It sounds like you are saying your vents turn left or right with the steering wheel. I have never come across a car like that. My central vents are fixed (but have small knobs to manually adjust the direction of flow). The mount has a secure clamp which grips the horizontal slats very securely.

I can see that with your circular vent the central knob may protrude such that it interferes with the mount. With my rectangular vent (see photo) there is more space to position the mount to avoid the vent controls. If this is your problem I suspect it will affect all vent mounts.

Of course with the mount clamped to the vent, it is no longer possible to adjust the direction of flow, at least with mine, but this is the general problem with vent mounts.

PS We have two because sometimes my wife wants to charge her phone and plonking it on the mount is very easy. Also on some journeys I have hers set to the route overview and mine to detail view.

I’ve got one of these.

Absolutely spot. Ties in with my car’s interior, fast charging if I need to use it and really strong magnets

Looks good and good price. The actual clamp to the horizontal slat of the vent looks near identical to mine so I think @djmanosv will have the same problem.

Impressed with the magnetic strength of Pitaka after watching some videos on Youtube. So I picked up one as well as Mophie 32w car charger from apple store. Hopefully, it'll work for Apple silicon case when I receive 14pm next month.

The 7.5w for iPhone in the above ad is kind of triggering me a bit.

I was looking for a mount that had active cooling (like the new esr mounts) but will accept an official apple MagSafe puck. So far I haven’t come upon any.

It might be either a diy job to custom make an external fan vented MagSafe holder, or to order a fan equipped 7.5w charger and see if it overheats.

(I have a Rav 4, with a dash mount currently from Proclip/17mm ball joint. The older rav is stupid hard to get cell phone holders to work.)

With iOS 16, I started receiving overheating warnings (charging stopped) on my current iPhone 11, I suspect the overheating has been going on much longer, but iOS 15 didn’t tell about the issue like iOS 16 does.

I would like to put some kind of active cooling holder when I get my next iPhone, as I can see overheating becoming more of a problem with the higher MagSafe wattage. My car won’t be replaced anytime soon, so I will have to work with what I have (or can cobble together.)
