For the benefit of others coming to the topic late, my iPhone 12 Pro Max is much more secure in an Apple Silicon MagSafe case, than as a naked phone. Spigen Magsafe Silicon combo is very satisfactory.
I think the magnets on the Apple cases are not strong enough. They work but are a bit weak. There should be a good after market options coming up soon for such cases or accessories.

This thread lists some third party cases which have stronger magnets than Apple's, though I assume this is subjective. The Apple Silicon is strong enough for my car use. Too strong would be a disadvantage.

I attached this from Amazon (magsafe car mount)to mount my iPhone, it sits perfectly.

@AnthroMatt . I have just got the same to use with a 12 Pro Max. It doesn't feel very secure though it didn't actually fall off on a test drive. I was testing with no case at all. What phone and what case are you using? Thanks
I used it with a 12 pro max for a short period of time, before I got rid of the Max because it was just too heavy for my daily use. I have a 13 (regular) now. I have only had it fall off once, and that was when I was driving down a two-track dirt road. I use the Apple Leather case now, but always a MagSafe compatible case with that mount.

With magnetic holders you have to have and sell a whole good kit if you want a strong magnetic holder. If you have cheap air vent mounts and magnets are strong you will break air vents. I was doing some testing on magnets used in cases and the ones Apple uses. Apple actually uses weaker ones for various reasons. I actually know one of the suppliers for Apple.

Has anyone found a car mount that works with the Apple Magsafe cases? The vent magnet mount I had used does not hold firmly the 12/12 pro. I dont care about charging just want to make sure it holds the phone (but do want to charge with Magsafe charger at home). Any suggestions?
I bought this one a few weeks ago it's a vent mount. Doesn't have the wireless charging but has 16 magnets and holds my phone very well. I have the 13 mini with leather case so may be different if you use the larger phones.

Does anyone have ESR Halolock Car Magsafe? I got mine and there is no way to get the Magsafe charge animation...
My aliexpress generic brand one does that.
I am looking for one that shows the Magsafe charge animation, round/circular one
Thanks in advance

I am very pleased with this mount.

The good feature is the front plate and thin screw clamp which gives a very satisfactory mount to the vent.

I previously ordered the ESR Halolok which has a little prop instead of the plate, and it is better than the Spigen I also tried but not as good as the PLDHPRO. (I probably would have kept the ESR but I inadvertently ordered the mount only version). The PLDHPRO is smaller and neater than the ESR or Spigen. I liked the Spigen at first but didn't like the bright white Apple MagSafe charger with fixed too-long white lead.

The PLDHPRO has the brief green charging circle on connection if that is what you mean by animation.

So have I got it right that even with the official Apple MagSafe puck, the below USB-C PD charger won’t be able to provide 15-18W to the iPhone 13? What would be the max wattage via the USB-C port?

The trick is the "9V output". Volts x amps = watts. So, this charger is 9V * 2A = 18 W. Thus, it's nearly perfect: the MagSafe puck goes to 9V * 2.22A (thus "20W"), but because the peak amps are so rare (really, negligible: you'd get more accidentally plugging it in for 30 seconds, I bet), you're good to go with that charger.

Thanks mate.

I wasn’t sure which of the USB-C PD port Voltages the phone would utilise, but I was hoping it would suck close to the max stated of either to get near 18W which is plenty.

My recent testing shows it’s performing very well…
1 hour drive
Screen on + Google Maps + Spotify Bluetooth to vehicle.
= ~30% increase in battery (27%-57%).

Although that dropped on another 1 hour drive (same route) when using Google Maps + Podcasts (instead of Spotify) + Bluetooth to the AirPods Pro (instead of the vehicle)…
= 16% increase (30%-46%).

Not sure if Podcasts & Bluetooth to AirPods Pro are meant to use more of the battery?

Thanks, why did you prefer PLDPHPRO over ESR?
I am looking for the most stable one, i have two minor issues with ESR: non green charging circle (animation) and i have sightly usb-c issue (i need to push further with stock cable in order to get the charge, with another cable, its fine)

More secure mount (as described in previous post), and smaller....just a MagSafe circle, not a circle within a larger square.

As I said I would have been happy with the ESR if I had ordered the charging version initially. I didn't discover the no green circle with ESR of course.

I have the non changing ESR. Works great with my Apple leather case. If I need charging I just plug in my lighting cable to iPhone, no big deal! As far as the animation, I could care less about that.

Interesting!
As above I got the same model, but by mistake! The joy of the charging mounts is that there is no fiddling about with leads. Just plonk it on or lift it off.
I can't think of any advantage to a non charging mount or why they even sell one.
Curious why you chose the non charging version?

I ordered it by mistake, the non charging version is cheaper (like 10$ cheaper), i ordered both, the non charging version is also slimmer/thinner which makes sense since there is no charging ability
I will not going to keep my ESR Halolock:
  • There is no Magsafe charging animation, that's triggered me
  • You cant turn phone easily, you need to replace and hold the vent fixation again
I am going to circular form factor + Magsafe charging animation, no doubt ESR is good car holder but its not perfect (at least for me)

Because I don’t want my phone to be always charging. If I’m 90 to 100%. I don’t need it to be charging.

Your ESR mount must be different than mine. It’s very easy to turn the phone. Well, you have to get what works for you.

You can turn it but the vent fixation isnt stable when you are turning it

I like more this kind of holder with better and more stable vent fixation

Hello !! please recommend some magnet holder for 12 pro max that works with leather-silicon apple cases ? No need to charge, just hold my phone stable. My car has round vents

As above I am very pleased with this one. In fact I now have two them.

I use it with 13 Pro Max in Apple leather MagSafe case. Rock solid. You obviously don't need to connect a charging lead to it.

You say "leather-Silicon" cases...they need to have the magnets in them, which Apple ones and a few third party do. Many third party ones mention "MagSafe compatible", by which they mean you can charge through them but they are not secure for car mount use.

I bought the belkin one but hated having it attached to the vent. I took the vent clip off and bent up a piece of black metal the attaches to one of the screws that holds my radio in. Much more secure
