Sony hasn't done a good job of supporting PSVR2. I'm not going to hold my breath on them supporting Apple more/better than their own product.
Seems like they are just helping make PSVR2 controllers work on Vision Pro? Don't seem how that's really going to move the needle. The lack of controllers being in the Vision Pro box is the problem because devs can't assume you have some controllers that at least right now only come with another several hundred dollar VR headset for your already niche VR headset.

Robocop Rogue City Mac was supposed to come out by end of 2024, still no news on that front. I wonder if it's been delayed, and why. It can't be _that_ hard a port, being in Unreal Engine 5...

RE2 on App Store is up. There is a heavy launch discount of 75%, enough to sway me buying it right away.

On my M3 Max 16" base with binned GPU, with 16" internal screen native res, upscale MetalFX quality, every other settings at max, FPS is at stable 70. Game feels even better optimized than RE4, but there are still smearing and tearing here and there. HDR effects on the MBP XDR screen is pretty nice. Will try it on an OLED TV later.

Try to run it at lower resolution with the same aspect ratio (1.547) for better performance without MetalFX and same sharpness. On my 4K monitor I get the same sharpness with 1800p as 2160p.

They're all good. RE4 plays in 3rd person view while the other 2 are first person.
RE7 begins like a true horror movie, amazing beginning.

I think they all allow you to play the first "level" (about 30 min) for free before having to buy the full game.
Omg I know the game well and played Vilage for 30 min.
I am just asking what title is best as I do not have time to play so much games..

Sniper Elite 4 getting ported to Mac, iPhone and iPad with cross save. Releasing on Jan 30

Gave it a bash on my 14” M3 Max. Yeap all settings at max it runs VERY nicely, sadly no ray tracing option. Had to get used to using a mouse again lol. But if I really want to play it I’ll probably use my old Dual shock 4 controller.

Funny thing is, I have an OLED Steam Deck and playing these games on the Mac makes it seem a bit poor really, the Deck runs the games but no where near the settings and graphical level of my Mac. Deck is making me want to build a balls out gaming PC lol, but that means Windows yuck!

Huh. Wonder if this will extend to other RE games. This is from RE7.

But shouldn't I then use MetalFX performance mode if I wanted more frame rate while maintaining the same output resolution?

Sniper Elite 4 is on MAS for pre-order with release on Jan 30. It has a free demo and will be on sale for $25 ($60). The complete edition will cost $30 ($77).

Baldur's Gate 3 had native Vulkan support but Larian Studios has now ditched Vulkan completely together with DX11.

"With the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios’ RPG allows players to use either Vulkan or DirectX 11 to run the game. However, with DirectX 12 offering much better performance for games with decent optimisation that can actually lead to massive gains for some very heavy titles."

"During the panel, Vanderstappen explained that Vulkan and DirectX 11 were not ideal for Baldur’s Gate 3 and the APIs caused more issues than they were worth."

"Learning from the past, Larian Studios has already scrapped both Vulkan and DirectX 11 rendering from the newest version of its game engine. In a slide during the panel, Vanderstappen revealed that everything related to DX11 and Vulkan has been removed from the new game engine to focus entirely on DX12."

“It’s already done. We’re finally rid of DirectX 11 and Vulkan we don’t use anymore.”

In RE 2 MetalFX Quality seems to have little impact. So if you want better performance with sharper image, as sharp as the native resolution, you should turn off MetalFX and use a lower resolution with the same aspect ratio. Here you can see I get 39 fps at 4K on my Mac Studio M1 Max 24c GPU with Max settings except for Shadow on High, Volumetric Lighting on Medium and Ambient Occlusion on SSAO. Lens Flare, Motion Blur, DoF, Lens Distortion and Film Noise are Off. With MetalFX Quality I get only 43 fps. At 3200 x 1800 though I get 55 fps.

Notice that the ”hair” on the statue with MetalFX is not as sharp as in the native 4K resolution (harder to see here than in the game) but at 1800p it’s as sharp as native 4K thanks to the same aspect ratio (1.78). So you should get much more than 70 fps with your M3 Max and adjusted settings, because there’s no visible difference between VL on High and Medium or SSAO and FidelityFX CACAO or Shadow on Max or High.

It is much easier to show image degradation with GIF/MOV than with still pictures.

Generally speaking, if image reconstruction doesn't increase your framerate much it is likely because you are CPU limited.
It is part of the reason why nvidia created/showed off Frame Generation and really showcased it with MSFS2020 as that game was extremely CPU limited.

Hey they will finally be able to use newer technologies in the DX12 version of the engine. Which is an interesting statement to make cause they could have used them in the Vulkan version but would have lost feature parity with the DX11 version.

I don't think that's the case here. There may be something wrong with MetalFX Quality in RE 2 because at 4K I get about 10% increase as seen before and at 1800p or 1440p I get about 21% increase. With MetalFX Performance I get 125% increase though. On the other hand in RE 4 I get 92% boost at 4K with MetalFX Quality. At 4K the game is GPU-bound and the upscaling is done by the GPU so MetalFX should have more impact.

1800p MetalFX Quality OFF 55 fps (see above)

Doesn't MetalFX Performance switch to using a spatial upscaler instead of temporal?

Do you see the same performance if you run at the pre upscaled resolution manually? Usually with DLSS/FSR your upscaled framerate should be pretty close to the framerate of the pre upscaled resolution (if you manaully switched to that resolution). So if RE 4 isn't doing that, they yeah the upscaler is probably broken, unless it is just a problem with the M1 GPU family and doesn't have that happen for the others.

How do I get an FPS counter in RE2? I’ve been playing around with the graphics at 170% native res everything at maximum, runs well but I don’t know the FPS.

Write in Terminal: /bin/launchctl setenv MTL_HUD_ENABLED 1 or 0 to turn off. Activate the Metal Perfromance HUD in games with Shift+F9 and move it to desired place with Shift+F7.

You mean 4K with MetalFX should give similar frame rate as native 1080p? Then no! At 1080p I get around 70 fps while as you see above around 48 fps at 4K with Metal FX Quality
