I didn’t want to say anything on AC Shadows because of all the negative press around it, and Mac fans need anything we can get, but this is what I expected from Ubisoft.

Most AAA releases are basically released in beta across most companies, and Ubisoft is facing financial difficulties right now as well.

Coming off the heels of the perfect RE3 remake Mac port a day-ago by Capcom to this. Hurts to see.

To see a $15,000 M3 Ultra struggle to get above 50 fps at 4K is heartbreaking. 😭

Ehhhhh, there has to be a reason Capcom hasn't ported any of the Monster Hunter series to macOS. But yes seeing expensive systems struggling is depressing.

Whatever settings they used on the Series S should have been made the macOS defaults. Bet performance would have been great then.

They've worked with Apple and used the latest technology on Mac like Raytracing Illumination, Virtualized Geometry, SSLR and Strands-based Rendering for hair and it's not a port.

I looked at the App Store page for AC Shadows and got the "Runs on this MacBook Air".

I doubt that running it on an M1 (or M2) MacBook Air would be enjoyable.

I just saw that Palworld is available in the Mac App Store for the same price as on Steam. Unfortunately, Steam isn't showing a Mac version.

For a measly 96GB RAM and 1TB storage. Max config of a Mac Studio is $14099 USD. Add tax or switch to a different dollar and it very easily crosses the $15000 line.

And the point remains that Andrew Tsai’s Studio config was *not that* so it’s weird to bring up the pricing of the highest config.

Also lol @ 96GB/1TB being measly.

I hate to say this, but they should have implemented a 30fps cap until they could get the game to run at 60 reliably. As it stand folks think the game was poorly implemented (since we are saying it isn't a port) on macOS because the hardware should be capable of so much more. I want to play on my M1 Max, but the YT/Reddit posts of that hardware config are depressing.

LOL: "the game hasn't been tweak at launch to sustain 60 fps".

They say this is not a port but native work, whereas it's actually a console-grade launch. 30 fps for a fast-pace game like AC is not good, however you spin it.

Pretty sure the consoles do hit 60 frames in performance mode. So whatever ubisoft is doing there they should replicate on macOS. Sadly if you want the game to look really pretty (quality mode) you are stuck with 30fps on console.

PS5 Pro looks pretty good, other consoles not tbh.

But again that should be doable for at least the M3/M4 max chips and Pro has the water reflections turned on.

GPU utilisation is at 96% at high and low settings alike.
“The game performs HORRIBLY on all of the NVIDIA GPUs. At Native 1440p without Ray Tracing, the RTX 4090 cannot offer a constant 60FPS experience. No, I’m not kidding here. And as I showcased, the game cannot scale down properly even when you lower the resolution or the in-game graphics presets.“

Given this, it’s funny how other people (not anyone here) still bring out the Mac gaming slander 😆

yeah that is odd isn't it?

Definitely. This is not a Mac (hardware or software) related issue. This has to do with the game engine most likely.
What is wild? Check out this YT vid...

That is a GTX 1660 Super getting decent frames at 1080P native.

So if there is something wrong with the engine it makes 0 sense for the non RT macs to also perform so poorly. Since non RT GPU's seem to be okay (well at least this one).

It's decent frame rate but I can't see the frame time. This is with upscaling and frame-generation so it's hard to judge how reactive the game is. I tried CP77 with FSR3-FG and FSR4. FSR3-FG gave great FPS but was awful to play because of the latency.

The beginning is without upscaling and frame gen. then they add upscaling then framegen. Though the High setting is with both so there is that.

Yeah not having frametime means we can't tell how smooth the game is, though when you enable framegen the frametime graph becomes pointless since it is only measuring real frames (supposedly).

Honestly I would just be happy to see my favorite indie boomer shooters and a plethora of retro games get ported, especially now that Whisky is discontinued.

I know that Apple is basically clueless when it comes to games and has been for a long time, but I can dream.

I would love to try it out on my M4 Max, but then again this kind of games is not my game and then it is more to see what it is capable of.
Now I play World of Warcraft and recently upgraded from M2 Max to M4 Max now this is a crap engine, but gains in 4K were like 60% (or even more depends on crowded places) in fps largely due unoptimized and M4 Max being the fastest single core CPU you can get. WoW is limited to use only four cores so single core is king. But it is funny, that kind of performance you can't get on Windows. And since Microsoft took over the support has been better than ever.

A question, does MacOS now have support for auto resolution changing for games, so if you set stuff to 4K native in game does it actually do this or just run on your scaled resolution? I a bit puzzled if it does now or not.
