Isn't that every game on Steam that got a later Mac release? I think GOG does that too.Square Enix is the only company I've seen give away the Mac version to owners of the Windows version, so far.
I've seen a few games work that way when they got a Mac version. Valheim has gone that way, but Disco Elysium did not and I could swear that there was a Mac version of that before Valheim.Isn't that every game on Steam that got a later Mac release? I think GOG does that too.
Or did SE do that on the MAS?
It also means that the Metal code of the native version isn't that much better than what D3DMetal generates. Is the D3DMetal that good, or have developers just used some automatic conversion? Could be both.I guess it's not cpu intensive, and Apple Silicon has such large single core performance that is enough even to run it with Rosetta.
GPTK performances depend a lot of which game you are running, 3d API translation layers can be quite fast, it could be Control didn't need any weird feature that can't be mapped on Metal, and so the it was fast enough even on GPTK. But for example the native versions uses quite fewer RAM.
I wonder if you had to redownload the whole game to get the update (assuming you had it before the update went live). The version that came out was actually ready 4 months ago and should not have been released at all. The last update is the version that should have come out, with HDR.
Damn it. Literally bought it full price on AppStore minutes ago!

Well a gesture to support Mac gaming then.
Ha ha, true…Among the games I've tested, the one that makes the fans scream the loudest is Hitman, for some reason…
Ubisoft has a mischievous sense of humor. Giving us a version of AC:S that leads the industry in power efficiency… 🤣“In the terminal stats, "Control" is using 57w~75w GPU power(which is pretty high). Meanwhile, AC Shadows is only using 35w~40w normally. According to my Stats app, Control really puts this machine's power to work-it uses a lot of the system's resources. Sometimes I got 130w~140w power usage, which is only appearing in some of my 3d CGI works apps.”
Maybe, they wouldn't let the Mac developer near the wall outlets, so that developer was on battery power during development AND testing.Ubisoft has a mischievous sense of humor. Giving us a version of AC:S that leads the industry in power efficiency… 🤣
Nah, it is too much hassle with my AppStore region (tried it with some iOS apps before).Refund?
This game has a lot of variables that can surge demand in bursts, so yeah it takes time to test and find the optimal settings for any given Mac.In Control on a 14 inch m4 max I face a strange performance issue which I am afraid may be due to throttling. On the same scene it can go from 60fps to 45fps. Then just pressing pause (escape key) puts the game back to 60fps for a couple of seconds and then back to 45 fps. I wonder if it’s thermal issues or a bug I the game. But that is a huge performance hit. (The MacBook is on a stand with good ventilation).
Well it may have something to do with Ray Tracing… or background process. I'll do more tests…

Yes I am concerned about that. I wonder how much better a 16inch would do and if I should replace my 14inch with 16inch (but I do like the portability of the 14inch), but couldn’t find very conclusive answers about throttling. And it’s not consistent in my tests. I wonder if a background process could be the major culprit instead of thermals (because I something have ~20% drop in performance…).It's not unusual games have higher fps in the menus and lower when entering the game. MBP 14" M Max has always been known for throttling too. M Max is a little too much for 14".
