And performance on Mac isn't very good.
This was not unexpected for an UE5 game. I don't know who made the port.

Dust & Diesel: Deadland Delivery is planned for Mac.

If I were a betting man, I'd say that it's more due to it being a UE5 game, which don't run great on any platform or hardware.
If they can get the game working on the PS5 Pro and look the way it does at 60fps, surely they should be able to do that on the M4 Max.

I don't know if Mr MacRight is here on MacRumors. If he were I'd recommend making videos on custom settings for specific macOS hardware. He tends to stick to presets which is okay for overall stuff but can leave performance on the table. In the case of RoboCop he did show that turning off Nanite and Hardware lumen did improve performance, and the visuals were not impacted as much as one would think.

I also wonder how well TBDR really plays with temporal upscaling/AA. Especially since MSAA is "free" on TBDR hardware.

Claire Obsur: Expedition 33 would like to have a word with you....

Except that, for me, I don’t like turn-based games, especially those with nice animations, because they’re trying too hard to hide the fact that it’s not real-time.

It isn't strictly turn based. I've downloaded it but haven't played it yet. It sounds like the battles play like Mario/Luigi Brothership (or Super Mario RPG). It is something Square came up with ages ago and seems like only Nintendo kept using. From what I can tell if you don't actually dodge/parry you will most likely die in enemy encounters.

Your explanation of not liking turn based RPG's is why FF16's (and to an extent FF7:R) battles are the way they are. SquareEnix wanted to reach a "broader audience".

You're right that UE5 can be rough to run, but on Macs, it’s mostly shader compilation dragging things down, especially on M1/M2 chips. Universal binaries exist since UE5.2, so it’s supported, but Nanite’s only experimental on M2+, and Lumen’s software ray tracing kills performance. Epic’s improving Mac support, so fingers crossed for smoother days!
