I think they want to compete there. Who knows if or when they’ll get there
I'm not following many rumors regarding the M5 but there seems to be a fair amount of chatter regarding changes and improvements to GPU performance and even some changes to the overall architecture

I'm very happy with my M4 Max Studio, but I can see how tempting a M5 Max could be if apple could go toe to toe with high end GPU market.

Minor update to Cyberpunk 2077. Not really sure what they mean here.

· Multiplayer is supported on Mac, but it’s restricted to players using the same store version of the game:

· Steam players can only play co-op with other Steam players.

· Epic Games players can only play with other Epic players.

· App Store players can only play with other App Store players.

· Note: Even within the App Store, regional differences apply – for example, players with the Worldwide version cannot match with those who own the USK (German) version.

Store Versions & Compatibility

· On Steam and Epic, buying the game on one platform (Mac or PC) automatically gives you access on the other – no need to purchase twice.

· Players on Steam and Epic can choose between the Base Game, DLCs, or the Ultimate Edition.

· On the Mac App Store, only the Ultimate Edition is available for purchase.

It doesn't support cross save on any platform but some have managed to replace the save files manually: https://steamcommunity.com/app/934700/discussions/0/4368004647914773082/

I'm comparing my M4 Max Studio - a desktop to that of my PC desktop. I think its a fair comparison
You can compare the cpu to a desktop cpu, that's it really. You can't realistically compare a M4 Max Studio as a desktop to a desktop. If you do, then it's really depressing when you see results.

Lol, this will never happen. I don't know why anyone would even consider this as a reality.

If you turn on path tracing, you're going to have a really bad day in terms of fps.

So it's no different than Nvidia or AMD GPUs in that regard.

Regarding path tracing, the announcement from CDPR states it is an upgrade to path tracing, rather than adding it as a new feature.

Digital Foundry's review of CP 2077 Mac is out. They too seem to miss SSR Psycho in Ultra preset.

Yeah it’s annoying that they missed it. On the positive side, they say MetalFX is a match for DLSS transformer model in parts. RT upscaling lacks ray reconstruction which hurts it. Hopefully Metal 4 improves this.

Downside of just using presets for these tests.

I don't know much about modern Triple-A games and am not interested in sorting through the minutiae of every possible option. My system is an M4 Max Mac Studio (40-core GPU) with 128 GB RAM connected to an Apple Studio Display. Yes, graphical fidelity is important. Still, assuming I want to play Cyberpunk 2077 at a reasonable frame rate--perhaps around 60 FPS--what would be the optimal settings for my setup?

Thanks.

While @Homy suggestion is helpful, the for this Mac preset is probably your best bet for performance and image quality.

As others have mentioned, there's at least one necessary additional tweak when using the Mac preset. The game clearly doesn't detect my Apple Studio Display, defaulting to a resolution of 1440. It's definitely not optimal; text and graphics become blurry without any measurable increase in frame rate. On my ASD, the "sweet spot" seems to be 4K--3840x2160. Higher resolutions, especially the monitor's native 5K, have significantly negative impacts on frame rate.

What do you have your system display set at? What resolution?

iF34R, if you're referring to the macOS desktop display resolution, it's currently at 2880 x 1620. The extra screen space is nice, though my eyes wouldn't permit me to go any smaller! :)

Nah the game is doing the "correct" thing, the For This Mac Preset is trying to hit 60fps. Scaling up to 1440P is "easier" to make look good than going all the way to 4K. Now if you aren't concerned about the performance hit of going to 4K (no comment on why Apple's monitor looks like crap at 1440P) then yeah that is probably also useful.

Have you tried it yourself? On my system, the frame rate stays at a consistent, constant 60 FPS until the in-game monitor resolution is set above 3840 x 2160. The game simply doesn't seem to be accounting for monitor type or capabilities, so its default value is safe rather than optimal. It's probably an oversight, one the developers could potentially fix in a subsequent update.
