I haven't seen Apple completely ape another manufacturer before. If you could point me to evidence of such, I'll take a look.

And if you're not seeing that Samsung (not Google or any other vendor) takes this to an extreme, then I guess you're just missing it. It appears to be a giant running joke to most everyone else.

Ive already highlighted in a previous post some features Apple has "borrowed".

Its only a running joke for die hard apple fans that hate to see competition, and certainly competition from a company that appears to do certain things better.

This is exactly how the Japanese auto industry rose. The American auto industry stopped innovating and the Japanese initially copied, then improved beyond the ability of US manufacturers to compete. Hopefully in this analogy, Apple will be able to innovate to another level, otherwise it risks getting stuck in the weeds as everyone copies them.

LG Prada which was first announced in 2006?
Image

Apart from the icons at the bottom, I dont see a resemblance to the iPhone. Yes the Prada was a touch screen phone but the first iPhone was so much more than a touch screen phone.

Either way, this is EXACTLY what Apple wants, and I personally am loving this.

Think about it, Apple is Steering a HUGE market into the same direction it is going, this is going to force more companies to have scanners to accept passbook type cards because now the market just doubled.

For those of you who claim "competition is good" :

There you have it. Competition from shameless samedung in all its glory.

Then a noname judge somewhere claims "samedung copied apple, but that is ok, apple has money so it's all well. Besides, samedung products are not as cool"

The rest of the world? "Agree, competition is good".

I didnt say it did resemble the iphone. My response about the LG Prada was in relation to someone saying the iphone created the first touchscreen phone.

Are you incapable of adult discussion without having to resort to childish wordplay such as "samedung"?

What would Samsung do without Apple ... where would they get the inspiration from? Is there a single Apple design or idea that they didn't clone for cheap? I somehow fail to see where Samsung innovates, something many people claim they do (and no, giant phone screens are not innovation)

Agree.

Shameless samedung "innovates" again.

Are you so offended? It is my choice to say samedung. Put me in your ignore list please. Thanks.

But who friggin really cares? How does this affect (you) personally? Just something to gripe about on a forum?...Big deal.

You seem to care enough to gripe on this forum.
This is so much like my gramps, retired, way too much time on his hands, sees himself as the clearest thinker in the room and constantly scolding us all for not agreeing with his infinite wisdom, which my grandma has managed to happily ignore for about three of my lifetimes. Love em both, though.

Samsung does this in every product field: TV's, Appliances, Cellphones - and steal business away from American companies. Sad.

Exactly. "Buy American", at least American ideas and have profits stay home in the USA.

Well done Samsung. You copy the interface from Apple and rip the name off from Google.

Kinda par for the course, I suppose.

Which of those features were unique to a specific manufacturer?

Implementing similar functionality is one thing, but taking it all the way down to mimicking the icon is another, much funnier thing altogether. And as someone else said, Google Wallet already offered this kind of functionality, so just what exactly is it Samsung is doing here? Might the look of the icon say it all? (Rhetorical question)

Wasn't that the verdict in the UK case where the judge basically said, that the Samsung device is too boring, too complicated to use, too unusable and therefore does not qualify as a copy, even though it is made to look like the 'original' ....

Agree.

Oh this article's comment section didn't let me down at all. I fully expected these type of replies and it delivered. Kudos MacRumors... kudos.

Good artists copy, great artists steal.

Basically it's an "In your face Apple! Whatcha gonna do about it? Sue?!" type of move. I mean they and the other Android manufacturers and fanbois (especially!) keep mocking iOS users for the non-existence of NFC in the iOS devices, yet the posterboy for Android does this. When Apple is ready for NFC they'll do it and then you'll see businesses jump on board. NFC is not wide spread enough to merit inclusion in the devices.

Not surprising that Samsung would copy the model if its one that is gaining adoption in the industry. I still question the actual adoption rate of Apple's passbook anyway - but that's another matter.

But yes- Samsung is clearly copying and putting their own spin on Apple's passbook.

For sure. When is Apple going to get on the ball and actually do something with PB anyway?

I shouldn't be surprised anymore.

When Apple copies something, it's alright. When anyone else copies from Apple, it's basically a sin.

Everywhere
All the frustration from people knowing that Samsung will do it better then Apple. ;)

Below are a selection of features first showcased on Android, before shortly being added to ios.

Notification Center
Apple Maps
Facebook intergration
Launching apps from lock screen
Tabbed browsing
etc etc

All manufactures share ideas. Why everyone thinks Apple is whiter then white is beyond me.

whiter then white? what does that mean?

This is what would have happened:
1) Google Android would have copied the look and feel of Blackberry and have a Google search as the dominate feature.

2) Microsoft's Mobile phone would have expanded on the Windows CE concept with larger buttons and probably a physical keyboard. It eventually would have been a hit with consumers after a few generations.

3) Samsung would have copied Microsoft

I wonder if engineers at samedung are embarrassed about this... The in your face copy your ideas as innovative mine...
