At a loss for words, so I'll use Samsung's:

Per their vision statement:

"This new vision reflects Samsung Electronics’ commitment to inspiring its communities by leveraging Samsung's three key strengths: 'New Technology,' 'Innovative Products,' and 'Creative Solutions.'"

Right...

http://www.samsung.com/us/aboutsamsung/corporateprofile/vision.html

The vision statement doesn't say anything about Samsung inventing any of those things by themselves, now does it.

Looks the same as Passbook. When is Samsung gonna learn copying doesn't earn you anymore respect from anybody.

As well as Samsung Wallet, Visa have just partnered with Samsung and created "PayWave"

Visa believes that such mobile wallet apps will be huge in the coming years, and expects to see nearly two billion NFC devices in active use by 2017.

I do hope there will be similar crys of "Copycat" when Apple add NFC to iphone

How ironic of Samsung to yet again copy another Apple idea yet they consistently create stupid ads mocking Apple's customers for buying into the very product that Samsung copies from Apple. Oh Sammy, pathetic YOU. :D

That being said, I don't care for Passbook anyway.

Why the heck Apple didn't go after all of the grocery chains and get them to place their loyalty cards in Passport is beyond me. It would be so nice to not have a card for Giant Eagle, Giant, Wegmans, Sheetz, etc... in my wallet and instead have them all inside my phone.

Pass the point of wallet app, I started to think about S4. Now that Apple has taken the back seat as being the innovator, I wonder what the `next big thing`, S4 is going to have since there is nothing new from Apple. It will be worthwhile to see if Samsung can stand on their own with S4 and `wow` people or going to be just another S3 derivative.

Steve Jobs: "Good artists copy, great artists steal"
Steve Jobs/Apple "Just don't steal from us!"

Typical, but it was bound to happen soon enough.

Wrong, you're spreading something that's not true, you took the quote out of context.

Steve Jobs "Good artists copy, great artists steal ideas.

Stealing a thought, concept or idea is a helluva lot different than knocking off actual products and design as Samsung has done in every market they've entered.

And Samsung stole the idea of the passbook and made it into a wallet.

See what I did there?

Apple wasn't the first e-wallet and certainly wont be the last. Why so many people are getting worked up is beyond me. So its ok for Apple to "copy" ideas from android, but as soon as its the other way round theres uproar!

Some of the comments in this thread really show a complete lack of intelligence.

Copying the style of power adapter and packaging? Oh come on....

Dave, it's not just about copying per say, it's about timing. Sure, Apple isn't always the first but they take ideas that have been out for years or ideas that haven't been selling well, fix what's wrong with the idea and make it into a success when possible. Samsung just follows suit immediately with every new idea Apple puts out. They don't make it better, they just do it because Apple did it since Apple has a large following. They use Apple constantly as their R&D and saves Sammy much money.

I agree and have assumed it's just a matter of time and effort for Apple and the store developers. But Apple should step up the effort to push the adoption. I love the idea of Passbook (and use it for Starbucks)... I hate carrying loyalty cards, but they are so necessary to get discounts.

Someone else said it, but I'll second it... I think it's funny that Samsung isn't using NFC for their rip-off version either... Maybe Apple was smart not to toss in NFC to quickly to the iPhone mix?

Side note... I HATE the Samsung "tap to share" commercials... they are so misleading in the time it actually takes to share a photo or video. 1 second does not do it.

Oh my. All the hand wringing here as-if Passbook is even all that usable or important now.

But the reality is, if it is to supported by companies then it needs wide adoption across multiple platforms. Passport isn't a killer app, it's just an organizational tool, and not really a novel one, just updated for the 21st century...maybe. Wallets, in one form or another, have existed for centuries.

You understand that one is an announced product that people saw and one was in a lab that no one saw?

Yes, my point is the iPhone 4 design most closely resembles an Apple prototype from 2005.

Personally I don't think the iPhone 4 looks just like the Prada. But I also don't think Samsung phones look like iPhones in terms of hardware design.

Apple will do it when they feel the time is right. Like they always do with new tech.

Passbook is hardly taking off at the moment but that didn't stop Samsung ripping it off for the sake of ripping it off.

I bloody detest Samsung.

Ah thank you. Some logical discussion! :)

Thats fair enough, but passbook has been out for a while, and is a quite similar concept to KeyRing, which was an app out prior to PassBook.

I'm sure Samsung will have their own take on the e-wallet, especially as they have just partnered up with Visa.

Companies share ideas, thats what they do. Im sure in a few ios versions, ios will get something similar to photosphere, but with their own take on it. People seemed to get so annoyed and frustrated. All competition is good.

spot on

Samsung is "Wal-Marting" Apple. Let Apple do the innovation. Then come behind them, reverse engineer, and mass market to the large herds of people who put more emphasis on price than quality.

Sure, there are some geeks out there who want to tinker with Android, and find it more flexible than they do iOS. But at the end of the day the bulk of Android's inroads into the market has been based on a perception that it is cheaper.

I'm insulted that u guys weren't pissed at apple for selling this as an iOS 6 feature !!!!!!!!

Seriously a feature !!!!!?!?!?!!?!!

Don't get mad at Samsung - get mad at apple !!

Yeah, because Samsung DEFINITELY won't sell this as a feature during the SIV unveiling next month...

How have Samsung ripped it off? They have created an app with similar functionality.

Apple release features when its too late. Panoramic photos, facebook and twitter integration etc...

This. For Passbook/Wallet/whatever to really take off, everyone must have it. iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry....

Though ideally instead of each platform copying each other and trying to make their version "the one", the better thing to do would be to establish and license a standard that everyone shares.

Just keep in mind, if you thought about it, so has Apple. What would give you the idea that they didn't try to go after the supermarkets? Not every company will get on board and rightfully so because they don't want to have to pay royalties. My local supermarkets have their own app with special deals and I can pre-shop through my iOS device and when I get there my personalized deals are automatically applied at checkout. Why would they need a Passbook app?
