as far as not adding NFC, i will say that i think samsung could of got away with it if they did add it because the visa/samsung partnership that was announced a couple of days ago allow mobile carriers and banks to launch mobile payments via a app on there phones using visas network, this could include tickets/coupons etc so thats another reason why samsung might of not included it but if that had a API, like google has for the google wallet and isis also has it that lets NFC mobile payments and also coupons with one touch,

another thing is that now you could have One mobile payment app with your credit card plus coupons etc and now samsung wallet app...

anyway good move by samsung for launching there wallet app

It makes me laugh when people don't read the full article.

"Samsung says that retailers have so far been reluctant to invest in the additional infrastructure to support NFC payments, making NFC support for Wallet a lower-priority feature."

You know what makes me laugh? The fact that Samsung and other Android OEMs tout NFC as a selling point and then openly admit it's worthless at this point until retailers adopt it (which is pretty much Apple's take on it at the moment). So then they realize it's worthless and decide to just copy what Apple did. Wonderful "innovation" going on over there at Samsung.

Surprised NFC hasn't picked up. I have credit cards, health insurance cards, rewards cards, gift cards, etc all in my wallet. I would love to have all that in my phone so my wallet isn't so fat. It's also more secure because if my phone get's stolen it gets deactivated and all the cards that were on my old phone would be on my new phone. Where as if my physical gift cards get's stolen they're gone (unless I have my gift card number written down and I can deactivate it that way).

I'm not.

Some places don't even have a place for normal cards, let alone something for NFC.

There are 2 places in the town I live in that have NFC, and a third where they're hiding it because the people working there are confused by it. >_>;

Hey look Apple / Samsung thread where everybody restates everything they've already said and takes some more enthralling pot shots..

So let me reiterate mine:

You are not defined by your phone, no one in the real world cares about your phone anyway.

Neither Samsung nor Apple is hurt by any of this

Do any of you think yourselves an iOS user like you think yourselves a Mac user?

I think it's pointless to bitch and moan about it every time samsung copies. it's not like any of us can do anything about it. One thing we can bitch and moan about is that the red sox dont have passbook yet. oh well guess i'll have to use regular tickets to watch my team struggle all year :(

I'm pretty sure Apple are hurt by Samsung's relentless copying. I know i'd be.

I'm insulted that u guys weren't pissed at apple for selling this as an iOS 6 feature !!!!!!!!

Seriously a feature !!!!!?!?!?!!?!!

Don't get mad at Samsung - get mad at apple !!
So judging by your comments, I assume that you have an Android phone? Am I right?
;)

Wow... Samsung is going to copy and do everything the iPhone do to eliminate iPhone as we know it from the "exclusive" market we all live in.

Goal? Let everyone have the same cool apps we all have for much less

Apple strategic and logical move that need to make?

CHANGE EVERYTHING! Update GUI, Change features, upgrde API and let all the copycats looks like OLD software with the next iOS update!

BUT...

I don't think that will happens next.

This is actually a good thing. The Passbook concept needs to become an industry standard for others to get behind it, and this will help. That Samsung had to copy the look and feel of the Apple app and the icon so closely is pretty pathetic, but just what we've come to expect from them.

Keep building up the Samsung juggernaut, Android fans. It will end up biting you all in the end.

Fools.

Yea they sure show a lack of sales don't they..

Gee last week it was look how great the iPhone is selling the 5 and the 4s each outsold GSIII, *patting ourselves on the back*

Whats sales got to do with anything?

So if you personally where making something and someone else was right next to you copying what you're doing with very little difference you wouldn't mind?

Samsung are shameless about their copying. It's beginning to get ridiculous. They must REALLY enjoy law suits over in South Korea.

Sales are the reason Apple stays in this gig.

If there was any decline in iToy sales I'm might be inclined to agree with the next assertion. Please remember a person my have an emotion attachment to something but a company doesn't.

All the frustration from people knowing that Samsung will do it better then Apple. ;)

Below are a selection of features first showcased on Android, before shortly being added to ios.

Notification Center
Apple Maps
Facebook intergration
Launching apps from lock screen
Tabbed browsing
etc etc

All manufactures share ideas. Why everyone thinks Apple is whiter then white is beyond me.

I'm sorry, but Android didn't invent the concept of tabbed browsing, maps, and other stuff. And Apple cannot copy something from android, that Google didn't invent.

Put it simply, tabbed browsing was there for years on mac before it came on iOS. And maps? Maps were present for centuries before android had them. That proved nothing.

And if you're playing the game of "he copied something that android didn't invent", then we can safely assume that android copied Apple in touch keyboards, multitouch + gestures, navigation bars, inertia scrolling, autocorrect, and so on and so on.

I can apply your flawed logic and say that iOS had all of these before Android, even clearly when Apple didn't invent these features. Same principles apply.

And Samsung stole the idea of the passbook and made it into a wallet.

See what I did there?

See what you did there? All you did was make a nonsensical comment.

Apples icon? Cards in a wallet.
Samsungs icon? Cards in a wallet.

Passbook was already in a wallet. What did Samsung do differently again?
